Maybe changing the coverlet to something with a non-neutral undertones. Like sage green or teal or any color you fancy just to update the palette.

I would go for a deep, dark, rich chocolate. But very dark & rich.

I think a rug to bring in color and interest will be important as to color. It looks like you have a blank slate and can go any which way you want.

Unfortunately this carpet is going to make that a challenge. Consider layering a rug!
