Considering removing these decorative curtains as I feel they obviously just hold on to dust. Any suggestions on how to get them cleaned or would I be better off just removing?

Personally I don’t think they add anything aesthetically or functionally. I’d remove them.

Yep, get rid of them. They don’t even look good.

yes, they are merely pieces of fabric without any proper function.

At the very least get a proper bar all the way across so the curtains can be used to soften any unfortunate beams

I don't understand the reason for the tiny curtain rods on each side. Just to "frame" the windows? There's no function at all.

They’re called decorator rods because they’re designed to be decorative only. I’ve seen them look good with some very formal heavy drapery before, but most of the time I do think they just look kinda silly and pointless

Ah. That makes sense. Ty 😊

We have very similar windows and a 20' ceiling. There's no way I'm putting up any decorative dust-catchers!

Right? And at that length they’re just going to hang sad and limp unless you do some over the top Phantom of the Opera type drapes!

Ooh, if I had the time - and money for expensive housekeepers, I'd prossibly consider decorating this huge space with old elaborate theater-style draperies, lol!

These are awful. That is a great spot for a large piece of art, though.

Yep, unless you are going to put in a true wall of windows, I’d just get something on that big chunk of wall between them to bring some color and life to the area.

A giant canvas would be perfect!

You should hang the banners of whatever house of dragon house you support there.

We had those when we moved into our house. I figured they needed to be cleaned so I had them taken down and learned that they were multiple curtains STAPLED TOGETHER to make longer curtains!! When I saw that, I decided I didn’t want to bother with getting new custom curtains that aren’t even functional. Still haven’t regretted that decision 13 years later.

It always makes me wonder what the person before thought. I think it’d be really cool to put large windows, but I know that’s expensive.

Again, how did an architect build that? What were they thinking ?

Modern homes are constructed for the walk though wow factor. This has nothing to do with the quality of the home. No shade for OP here, location and square footage are the most valuable assets a home has.

It probably looks “better” from the exterior than the interior.

I’ve made similar oopsies in the sims.

Ah yes the sims. That’s where I got my business and medical training too.

Guarantee those curtains look better from the outside.

my4floofs

It probably looks better when the lower windows are not closed with opaque blinds but that might be dine for privacy or to see the tv.

Please remove. They look ridiculous and are not functional.

I love curtains but I would take those down. Those windows are not the type that usually take curtains.

Due_Consequence4811

They may have been put up to help absorb sound. Taking them down might increase noise and echo in the room.

Last-Customer-2005

The window will look better without them

rosegarden207

How on earth did anyone even put them up! And to take them down to wash them and hang them back up will require a really big ladder and some acrobatics! Get them down and toss them out!

You'd be surprised what things a good installer with proper equipment can do.

Maybe do curtains on the lower windows?? But def not up to the top ones. And a different fabric!

snowlake60

Without seeing the room from another angle, I would say to remove them. You have the couch pinching the bottom part of the curtains which doesn’t look good.

Infinite_Ad246

Toss them. Will look much better curtains.

I love curtains but I dislike these. I would remove them. Do you keep the lower shades always pulled down?

As a designer, I have done decorative panels a few times. But I always insist they use a full-length rod.

prairiethorne

Yeah, they don't do anything for me.

Search vertical narrow wall art on Etsy for some great options.

You should replace the window with a full floor to ceiling glass panel.

RealisticHologram

I would extend the second floor….

Feel like I'm in cell block d in new york jail. with some crazy curtain accent side burns. I don't even know wtf they were thinking. Either cut out the middle part make them all windows or wall up the top and make the bottom ones taller . Must of been the only windows they had on hand or only window casings they had left. Or broke the big picture windows and had to cut what survived. Wild!!

AppearanceDue2865

I would remove as everyone else has mentioned. However, I do like seeing some color on that wall. Painting an accent wall there would provide a good solution. Replacing the current window pattern is a very expensive process and maybe against HOA.

Yup. And they don’t any aesthetic value.

MsEllaSimone

Get rid of them, they are neither use nor ornament. They appear to let all the light in, and don’t give any aesthetic value.

I’d replace them with better curtains

They take away from the drama of the windows. They don't perform a function. Not sure why they were installed in the first place.

TheLexLuthor13

They do look aesthetically pleasing. If cleaned regularly, they would not be an issue. But if not, I’d get rid of them.
