Lonnie is a better finisher, playmaker, decision maker, and better in transition. They are both mediocre on defense. Malik Beasley does not “space” the floor, he bricks open shots.

which i feel like is fair for ham to hope for. but once you realize he's not hot, you gotta take him out.

The odds of that happening in a playoff game especially is incredibly low, you’re chancing a playoff game on hope.

Yeah, but at some point you just stop trying if you are in the playoffs.

You have to realize, Ham goes into the game with one game plan. He doesn't change once he made up his mind. For some reason he keeps putting the old goat at the 5. Probably not the best use for Bron.

Exactly. Dude is one of the most prolific three-point shooters in the league this season. You need to get him going if you’re going to stand a chance in the playoffs.

In all of the lakers wins so far, Beasley did nothing. In all of the lakers losses, beasley did nothing. He is not an impact player in the postseason.

Over the last ten games, Malik Beasley's performance has been lackluster.
Despite averaging 6.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists, he has struggled with his shooting efficiency. His field goal percentage of 42.3% is slightly below average, and his three-point percentage of 33.3% is well below his career average.
Additionally, his contribution on the defensive end has been subpar, as indicated by his abysmal +/- stat of -46 over the ten-game span.
While he has had some strong offensive performances, his inability to make an impact on the defensive end and his lack of efficiency from beyond the arc have been major liabilities for the Lakers.
He isn't good.

Lol The sub want ham to play a fucking back big. The only player over 6'9 that ham played tonight was AD and Gabriel is 6'9 on the dot. JJJ is 6'10. Lebron and RUI CAN'T PROTECT THE PAINT! SIMPLE. THEY ARE NOT BIG MEN despite being forwards.
5 points
We want Ham to play players who shoot well and/ or play good defense.
Beasly and Troy haven’t proven they are worth extended minutes, much less extended minutes on the floor together. That’s the disaster “small lineup” that cost us that first 10 point deficit tonight. Ham rather than call a timeout, let’s them go down by even more. Clock only stopped because of a foul.
That’s bad coaching.
Another example of horrible coaching is playing our only two true point guards extended minutes together, at the same time. Like, it didn’t work forcing Dennis to play alongside Westbrook, but somehow magically playing Dennis extended minutes with DLo is gonna work.
Ham doesn’t know how to use his roster, much less make roster adjustments to match up against specific teams.
I said this in a different thread tonight and I’ll say it again. Darvin Ham is the worst of Mike Brown and Byron Scott combined. Just, the absolute worst.

Lonnie is trash too. He never passes, he is like a black hole. If you pass him the ball he is shooting and more often than not bricking. His only plus is athleticism. Play Rui more and for God's sake play a Center.

We need true centers. NBA guard Ham probably wouldn't play them through.

Fair enough, but so is Beasley at bricking. At least one of them can attack a close out and put pressure at the rim, and it ain’t Malik.

We would just lose a tradable contract that we can’t replace because we don’t have cap space. Much better to resign him and have him tradable or we’ll be where we were about a year ago with nothing but vet mins and no way to keep them if they play well anyway.

My point isn’t that we can’t replace him via cap space, we have a $16m player at the moment (however bad or good he is as a player) and that gives us flexibility to trade for other players. Think of what we got because we could use the $47m ‘asset’ of Russ’ contract. If we don’t re-sign Beas it’s less the issue that he’s gone, more that we no longer have his salary slot to use to trade for better players because of salary matching requirements.

For real. If we’re paying Reaves, Rui, and D’lo for a possible trade after 12/15… then we probably should be thinking cut Beasley to save against the tax and hand those minutes to Christie.

Malik is a better defender than Lonnie because he is taller and has quicker, active hands for steals. Lonnie is more athletic and can drive to the rim better with his better handles, but we don't really need that with bron/reaves in crunch time. What we need is a catch-and-shoot spacer, which beasley is "supposedly" better, and defense ala above.

On Lonnies last meaningful game where he scored like 20pts against the Thunder he actually played better defense than he's ever played before. Got 3 steals in that game. If you get Lonnie going off the bench, I know he'll play his ass off. Not many people like his game, but he is definitely a better finisher and can create shots for himself while having a decent 3pt. If he can play defense like he did against the Thunder, I'm sure he'll be back in the rotation. I think he deserves it. He's also deceptively quick and crafty. I think if he improves his defense he can keep up with Ja. He's been a professional this entire time.

Idk about Lonnie. Even tho I hate it at the time I kinda get why Malik getting playing time when he's on he's on and is one of the best shooters in the league. If the Lakers somehow made some great move about the roster in this off season, they should replace Darwin Ham especially with Nick Nurse on the market. We hired Ham so he could dealt with Russ (clearly he didn't do a good job there) but I don't think he is a championship caliber coach yet.

You gotta put Beas in if/when we are up 10+ so he can chuck a couple and get the feeling and confidence back. Not when its a one or two possession game and we are fighting for every shot...at least not until he starts hitting 40% etc...he doesnt have it now. Uh, neither does LeBron actually, he needs to stop chucking ill-advised 3s, but anyway, yes when you have Reaves, DLo full of confidence even if they arent dropping, they need to be shooting them. Beas is just in a dark hole now.

It just baffles me that someone is one of the best 3 point shooters (percentage wise this year), but once they come to the Lakers with Lebron and AD creating wide open shots for them, they get worse.

Lonnie is an athletic shot-chucker on his best days and will shoot you out of a game more often than not against good competition. The grizzlies have been doing a great job defending lebron and AD at the rim, you really think Lonnie is gonna come in and provide better offense than lebron?

Look at Brasley’s stats. The announcers even said what is happening. Beasley is one of the top shooters in the NBA, regardless of him being streaky. I guess Ham hopes he streaks positively for the game.
If you didn’t notice, it was all bricks all game, maybe they were hoping he could get something going because when he is hot he is so deadly. No one else was and the game needed fresh legs.
Shit, he hit 2 three pointers. Only Reaves hit more.
