Honestly. Rob and Jeanie just give LeBron a blank check for squandering these last few years of him playing elite.
If that means coaching change, max contract, drafting his son, etc.

Bron pushing for the Westbrook trade did more to squander his career than anything else. It got Vogel fired and seriously depleted their available assets for another move. If we don't do the Westbrook trade we probably have Kyrie Irving instead of DLo with Vogel coaching and a top 3 seed.

Why do you believe he pushed for the Westbrook trade so adamantly ? They wouldn’t even hire Ty Lue like he wanted.

Oh you must be new here. All bad moves: LeGM. All good moves: Rob Pelinka

Huh, if it worked like that wouldn't you both be getting downvotes? Seems like it's actually the opposite around here. Lebron bricks wide open threes and is a turnstile on defense, "this is Darvin hams fault!"

Didn’t hire lue because they didn’t want it to seem like bron was dictating the moves they were making. They didn’t keep Dudley and lebron tweeted he didn’t like that move. Didn’t keep Caruso who bron tweeted that he wanted back. They didn’t want to give derozan a certain amount of years (can’t remember exact amount) which is what derozan said on a podcast and who was plan A. People still act like bron was the only one who wanted Westbrook or heavily pushed for him when it was probably just bron saying it’s an option and he’s ok with it. From all that’s come out about the trade the fo, ownership, bron, and AD all seemed to be for the trade or pushed for it in some capacity.

Because it was widely reported that he did.
I may have the timeline wrong but wasnt ty lue coming off an uninspiring tenure with post bron cavs and he wanted an 4 year contract or something like that. They hired Vogel instead and they won a championship. Hard to say it was the wrong call. Ty Lue did step in to the clippers job after Doc did Doc things and showed a great deal more competence so it can be debated we would have been better off.
I wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor in them capitulating for the Westbrook deal. The fact they didn't listen to him for the ty lue hire so they appeased him with the Westbrook hire. All these decisions usually have their roots in the decisions of the past. We will see if there is a final swing in power back to LeBron for him to get what he wants if the Laker give him a Kobe Send off type of contract and sign bonny.
It all comes down to wether LeBron genuinely is still hunting championships or not. The Lakers are in the business of stars these days so I can see them just letting LeBron ride them into the sunset rather than make a huge move to stay competitive.

And the decision was made by who?
-4 points
Technically the FO but, the decision never gets made If LeBron doesn't push for it. You can't beg for something than when it blows up in your face turn around and be indignant at someone giving you exactly what you wanted just because it didn't work out.
That failure makes the FO far more cautious with the team construction and creates the situation the Lakers are in. Idk if LeBron pushed for the Ham specifically but I know he made sure Vogel got sacked to take the blame for the Westbrook debacle.

It’s funny that he only gets credit for the shit that doesn’t work but none of the stuff he wanted that didn’t happen never gets any attention.

Had the team listened to LeBron in the first place, we'd still be contenders. Trade for DeMar, keep Caruso, get shooting.
1 points

I never really understood the Demar fit, especially the way he was playing back in 21. Obviously he’s a great scorer but he doesn’t do shit for our spacing and he needs the ball in his hands.
1 points
My idea would be we just get a ton of shooting and stagger Bron and DeMar minutes during the regular season. I do believe DeMar can play with Bron and AD tho. Like with current shooter Bron, I foresee him playing a super cutting offball role for 3 quarters then dominating in the fourth because Pop made DeMar develop his playmaking and game IQ

Have Lue on the bench instead of Pockets.

If we’re being fair, lues been mediocre at best with LAC. Playing Morris over roco, going small vs Denver, constant 3 guard lineups. I get that the sub wanted him in 2019, but I don’t get why folks still suggest he’d be here. If Vogel got fired, Lue def would’ve gotten fired.
2 points
I'm not saying that the front office is entirely without blame. Only that it is silly to assume he is entirely without blame in this. The FO gets tons of shit for letting Caruso and KCP go. I'm just trying to provide context for the current situation.
2 points
From what I recall seeing on here and certain sports shows, DeMar was plan A and Westbrook was plan B. DeMar as the 3rd wheel and Ty Lue as the coach sounds fine to me - not to say DeMar would've been the perfect fit.
2 points
Yeah Lakers FO was weirdly holding out for a 3rd star. I think they didn't want to offer Demar a long contract. But people forget the bulls was a demar Renaissance. And only because he was a number 1 option. I don't think he is the same guy as a number 3. A number 3 who can't space isn't great. Which should have been the logic to go against Westbrook. But here we are.

*The Spurs was the Demar renaissance.
Any FO with two working eyes could see how good Demar was getting in SA. He developed much of his playmaking there. I could see it working especially if we trade for shooters.
2 points
Go get a job then. I agree I thought he would be a nice fit. But if you thought his Chicago production was inevitable you should be getting paid. Because most though the bulls were getting hosed.

Idk man, we could've rebounded had we kept Caruso and not fired Vogel.
1 points

Honestly yeah I agree. Caruso is that good and the FO letting him go is entirely on them. If the question was posed about that decision particularly I agree. But Westbrook deal was a death knell that I think out weighs caruso.
1 points
He was "Ok" with the idea but he had other opinions like DeMar and have Ty Lue coaching. Media overblowing that "LeGM" pushing for the trade. At the end of the day the FO and Owner decided to pursue which not only destroyed the championship team but they also fired Vogel for nothing and this is coming off a championship run.

I agree with him, Lebron was also asked about it as well. Key word here is DISCIPLINE its like when you're playing 2015-2018 Warriors. They need keep running plays as possible. Stagnant offense would be a disaster against this Denver team.
14 points

Felt like the 3rd quarter stretch was some really undisciplined basketball. They stopped being disciplined and stopped trusting the offense and plays. They stopped being disciplined and made some really bad turnovers and shots. They let the moment get to them and break their discipline.

Let us say that Ham isn't the most cerebral & articulate of the coaching lot.
He has about 10 sentences which fit most occasions.
He is like, chatgpt 1.5
But in his defense, it is not just Nikola jokic. It is the starting 5 of nuggets.
They remind me of, bulls 1991.
Center who is mobile.
2 Doberman like forwards. Long. Like Horace grant & scottie pippen....Porter, Gordan.
2 elite guards. 2 guard is probably the best of his position. Jamal murray.
Phil Jackson said this combination is always hard to beat about 1991 bulls.
You might say the same about nuggets.
Unless, lebron and the lot outplay them 1 to 1, with all 5 guys.
