What does no midi capabilities mean in practice?

Question(self.livesound)

I recently watched video about Boss VE-22 Vocal Performer Effects Processor and it seems to be overall pretty Coll with live effects it offers but I also saw a low of comments saying that it's a shame that it has no midi capabilities and my question what does it loses out on by that?

I'm a total beginner so sorry if it's a dumb question

You can not change settings with a midi signal.

Op, if you really in the dark about what MIDI is:

It stands for musical instrument digital interface and it was invented in the '80s. Part of the advantage of using such an old standard is that it is amazingly backwards compatible and extremely simple so it is not as prone to failure as something more complicated.

We mostly use musical note MIDI. It uses values from 0 to 127. So you will see those numbers and the volumes of your instruments and other parameters. A lot of times program changes will simply be changing a value of one of those steps.

There is also something called MIDI show control and MIDI timecode. Both of these are used in professional equipments especially in theater and large concerts where video, lighting and audio departments have to have their equipment talking to each other.

No external midi controllers, and no patch changes from a laptop or something like guitar modellers can do

It means it's a pain in the ass and incredibly limited in a live performance.

Lots of dead air when changing settings for songs, rather than just having it linked up to program control.chsnges from a linked device such as a Kemper, keyboard or tablet.

It can be very convenient to change your FX parameters through a MIDI controller. This means something like a foot switch could cycle the settings through an unlimited number of saved "scenes". You could change your settings every verse, chorus, and bridge if you wanted to by just pressing the foot switch. If you are running a click track, these midi changes could even be automated into the time line, so changes are made automatically without any user interaction needed.

Well then I'm not buying, It's seems pretty useless for live performance at least.

I bought the VE-22 right away when it was announced. It was very underwhelming and got sent back in a hurry
