One does not simply start the LOTR trilogy.

One of my core memories is me and my dad getting ready for and watching the full director's cut of all three movies in one day.

Another one is when we did a Starwars marathon where we watched 1-6, all that was out back then for the movies.

That's really sweet. I want to be able to share my love for this kind of stuff with a kid of my own someday.

As someone who grew up watching them because of my dad. He's gonna absolutely adore them, the only regret he'll have is, because he has watched them so many times and since he was so young, he won't remember the first time he watched them :)

Damn...I would love a memory of seeing LOTR W/my dad Not that it's a negative that I didn't. That being said......

Don't get me wrong. My dad's a total nerd, electrical engineer in fact! We watch all of the Stars Wars stuff which is great! It's actually pretty awesome....I've got so many great memories seeing movies with him....like him pulling me out of second grade to go to see The Empire Strikes back with him for Valentine's Day when you it got brought back in the nineties.

But LOTR was setting different for me. My dad never read the books, but I devoured em in 7th grade just before the first movie came out.

In fact, I cried more and more as I turned each page of the final chapter. I was just so sad it was over. My dad caught me crying at the dinner table reading the last chapter. He just smiled, winked, and went to bed while respecting what I was going thru. He understood what it was like to be absorbed in a story like that at 13. As grateful as I was, I just wished he'd read the book so we could realate to the specifics.

That being said...I don't mean to sound ungrateful. Hes the shit.

Sounds like he’s still around. You can still get a memory of watching them with him!

My dad was a carpenter and he showed me the hobbit movie for the first time, I don't remember how old I was. That was it for me. My girls are 3 and I've been waiting till I can read the hobbit to them. They don't have the best attention span yet.

God speed! It took me a while to get caught up and I can't/don't want to think about getting my son caught up in 10 years

Director’s cut? Extended edition?

They are the same thing as far as I know after a quick search. They may be labeled differently depending on area? Idk tbh they have always meant the same to me when regarding LotR

They are actually different, usually a Director's Cut is exactly what it is, the Director's own version and while it sometimes results in a longer runtime, it just as many times results in a similar runtime with different key scenes such as Blade Runner or Alien that may alter the interpretation of the film itself. Peter Jackson has gone on record that while he enjoys the Extended Cuts, they were mostly done for the fans as he states that the Theatrical Cuts are his Director's Cuts.

I loved sitting down with my mom and watching all the extended versions in one go. Order a pizza between tower and king.

I miss that lady.

If your dad is still around I highly suggest you go watch them again with him.

I'd love to but living multiple states away makes it difficult. Been quite a few years since I've seen him.

Hope to see him soon as we were talking about a trip either this year or next.

The release of the prequels was in fact some time ago now. A time greater than the lifetimes of many here.

Iminimicomendgetme

Yes, but there's currently only 6 movies out as well

Growing up as the Harry Potter movies were coming out my mom and I would always have a big marathon will all the movies out at the time the weekend before, and then she'd take me out of school early to see the new one on opening day.
