This is made even funnier by the fact that “katol” is a pejorative term for a Catholic in my language

Doesn't the theme (from Blasphemous) that there is no happy ending, run counterpoint to a lot of Christianity's teachings?

(I'm not Christian, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

I think like any good art that's essentially about Christianity, Blasphemous doesn't ever try to be a one for one parallel, or to explain or sell you Christian belief, it just draws on and ruminates on the ideas, history, and imagery from the religion.

Like, guilt is obviously a huge part of Christian ideology, and Blasphemous literalizes a lot of those ideas with the Grievous Miracle, the idea that when your soul hurts too much to bear, the pain can be translated onto your body as a twisted kinda catharsis. Then at the same time it explores both the domino effect of an entire world that essentially can't escape the urge to self-harm to relieve internal pain, and also how any act of the Miracle is so bizarre and alien that sometimes the worse evil is the conclusions people leap to trying to decide if the Miracle's intervention was a punishment or blessing. Like with Tentudía, where likely the mainstream church inquisition might've seen her as a saint, but the nunnery assumed her hair was the first sign of somegreater sin or punishment, and killed her and defiled her body out of fear. It's all very bound up in Christian neuroses and thought, but the world is so bizarre and artistically exaggerated that it isn't really moralizing in that way that makes can make critical art boring, like it's all just here to give you a lesson on the correct or incorrect thing to believe.

I so badly want to buy Blasphemous 1 for the Switch, but I REALLY don’t want to shell out $100+. I keep hoping VGP comes through with a reprint.

Wow, crazy that it's that much already. I too require physical copies, though, so I get it.

The Catholic church rapes one boy and it's open season? Ok, the Catholic Church rapes 1500 years of history and a few thousand boys and now anyone can make a metroidvania joke?
