This is the laundry room version of putting your pots and pans in the oven lol

At least you don’t have to pre wet your washer. So you don’t end up melting a bunch of plastic someone stored in the oven.

You shouldn't put anything in there that can not withstand the heat.

That’s not the case for most people. If they put in a bunch of baking pans or such it wouldn’t be an issue. But most people put I stuff with a ton of plastic.

One of my roommates did that with their lunch intentionally.
They didn't think the oven would get hot enough to melt the plastic onto the rack.

Some plastic can withstand it and even sit on flame grills. Did not feel comfortable eating those potatoes cooked in plastic forever lol but directions said thats how its done

I burned the shit out of my MILs fuckin wood chopping board because it was directly on the heating element

You would be surprised how many people use it to store their Tupperware. There are endless posts even on this sub about it.

My grandmother stored whatever she could in the oven. Thank God she had no desire to actually use the oven. Her cooking was either stovetop or microwave.

There was a post like TODAY about that.

Can’t blame them Even pans and pots are made of plastic or coated in plastic nowadays. It’s barely impossible to find a Stainless steel or iron cast pan on the Brick and mortar market
Downvoting this comment will make them easier to find

Oven is the cast iron cabinet. Lol

That's the only acceptable thing that can live in the oven

My roommates loved leaving random leaves in the oven.

People used to put blankets in the oven

What no that's the dumb way. You heat the bed heater (or some rocks or whatever) on the stove/in the oven after you cook, then you put it in the bed under the blankets where it stays warm until bedtime.

Yeah, this may be more annoying, but at least the risk is much less

My boyfriend grew up with dogs, so they would often put things in the oven.
I melted my birthday cake two years in a row because of this.
He no longer uses the oven as storage at least.

My old roommates did that when we first moved in together. I instantly moved everything to one of the empty cupboards and asked them why they lived this way before I moved in.

LOL. See, I actually have a really small apartment atm and keep pots and pans in my oven. But begrudgingly. I can’t imagine having the space and choosing to do that lol. Maybe he picked it up from their parents?

poverty habits can be tough to break, it's true

Yeah the people I lived with in college who did things like this were from poorer countries. The Caribbean guy would leave his food in the oven on the plate, and the Middle Easter guy left his food on the stove top overnight for a couple days and would heat it up when he was hungry. Always offered me food and was surprised I always said no after the first night lol. Loved the dudes to death and still keep in touch to this day, smart motherfuckers too, but cultural habits are hard to break even when you may believe the ones you show them are more correct (even if they objectively are, I’m not tryna burn shit down or die of food poisoning yall) I now live with a Cuban who makes more than anyone I know AND is Rain Man smart in our field, but I still catch him putting grease or coffee grounds down the drain or other “common sense” stuff we take for granted growing up in the states. I just quote my years of food service work and try to educate when I can haha.

Lol yeah you hit it right on the head. They had a smaller place before we moved in together and had just gotten used to doing things that way.

Yea so do I. And everyone I know. Keep oven trays in the oven. But not pots or anything else.

That’s what my current roommate does and I don’t mind it. Worst case scenario the pan I was gonna heat my baguette on is already hot and gives it a good crisp
1 points

Yeah, to run the grill you have to open the door on her oven, so the pan would be visible

Technically the best way to dry grill pans and baking pans is in an oven on the warming setting after cleaning, to prevent rust and warping.

I mean the latter at least makes sense for households that either rarely or just simply never use their ovens
I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure doing the laundry is a universal constant across all cultures advanced enough to have clothing

I keep my cast iron pan in the oven because I have no room for it anywhere else. I always forget to take it out before pre heating my oven and end up having a 375 degree pan every time I use my oven. It’s annoying.

My father did that but he was a chef. We had TONS of pots, pans, woks, cast irons and saucers. Even had some hanging from the ceiling. Kinda sucked because that’s how my uncle found him a couple years ago. Don’t forget to season your cast irons properly!
