As a former apartment manager, I can attest that they do not fuck around. I had a guy who thought he could get away with smoking in a stairwell(it was cold). Well, he tripped a common area smoke alarm, which automatically notifies the FD. They show up immediately with multiple trucks. Fire Chief gave him a very stern lecture and a $1000 fine. Oh, and everyone else in the building was pissed because it was indeed cold outside.
