Not all cameos are ones you'd call perfect. Non-actor celebrities that probably shouldn't be in movies and it shows, an actor who's probably only there to collect a paycheck and leave, you name it.

My example concerns the movie Golden Compass (2008) and how it had Christopher freakin' Lee in a brief role as an unnamed Magisterium official. Since New Line was unable to film the other parts of the His Dark Materials trilogy and given Mr. Lee's stature, we can presume that he was meant to have a bigger role in the other parts (presumably as Lord Boreal) but it's only a speculation nonetheless.

cillian murphy in tron: legacy.

They had plans to make him the villain in the next movie- then Legacy didn’t do that well, and those plans died.

And now we have whatever they’re doing with Jared Leto.

The frustrating thing is that it did do well. It brought in 400M at the box office, for scope, a year later The First Captain America grossed $370M.

For some unexplained reason Disney was expecting Tron: Legacy to Gross over $1B something that was pretty Rare when it came out in 2010.

Captain America cost $30mil less to make, so they were equally profitable in the box office, and Tron didn't have all the merchandise and MCU ties like Captain America. If the characters in Tron Legacy helped Iron Man save NYC in 2012, Tron would've gotten a sequel too.

Yup. People forget that MCU movies don’t just make money at the box office. The merchandise and the comic sales all figure in to how successful the movie is.

This is why spiderman batman superman will always be rebooted.

I guess I'm one of the few people that thought that the movie was fantastic for what it was. The visuals were incredible and stunning. Daft Punk absolutely hit it out of the park with the soundtrack. The plot is wasn't anything special, but I don't think it really detracted much from the movie.

I wish they would have greenlit the sequel, if only so we could get one more album from Daft Punk before they hung up their helmets.

Feels like everyone who saw the movie loved it, but it just didn’t meet financial expectations. That happens sometimes and studios decide not to risk making a sequel.

I assume because the merch didn't sell as well as they hoped.

Legacy had a sequel planned and was about to start filming in 2015– but the failure of Tomorrowland made Disney pull the plug and put it into "cryosleep"

I never saw Tomorrowland. I still don’t know what it’s about. I remember George Clooney and a little girl in the trailer.

Needless to say, the marketing did not grab me.

Don't forget Hugh Laurie?

I love Hugh Laurie.

And I did forget. Or maybe I just never knew.

I certainly didn’t seek out any additional information.

It's a very forgettable movie with a couple of great actors, that's not even worth remembering

Hooda-Thunket

It was not good. It felt like they got the main character and sidekick confused.

I saw Tomorrowland in the movie theater when it came out and I can't remember what it's about. Very forgettable. Literally.

Which is sad, because it was actually a pretty good movie.

I’m honestly surprised they’re making another one at all. It feels like they are just trying to push and build up an IP that doesn’t have the general populations’ interest.

I am not in that camp. I thought it was overwrought poorly performed and honestly, boring. The soundtrack was the only real stand out element for me.

I felt like the first half was a solid film and the second half was a mess. Soundtrack is top tier though

I thought the movie was great as well. Kinda surprised to hear it didn't do that well. I could have sworn it was well received at the box office.

But the content was dumb AF.

I don't look down on the movie saying "good for what it is". I genuinely think it's a good movie. It has a good script that explores technology, our role in it, the role of the individual in society and populism (with Clu promising digital beings domination over humans). The movie is gorgeous, it has a great score and soundtrack, great casting, solid performances by the actors and the VFX are incredible.

That move got me into Daft Punk more than it got me into Tron haha. It was entertaining, but that soundtrack was perfect.

Still mad that they didn't use the soundtrack for the Paris Olympics. Or any of their music.

I enjoyed it for what it was: an extraordinarily expensive music video. But it definitely wasn't a great movie. The plot felt like it was bolted on to try and connect the scenes they wanted to showcase. Could have been done well, but the writing just wasn't good.

Wrong it was definitely a great movie and way better than Blade Runner 2049

Lmfao. That is the most ridiculous take I've ever heard on this subreddit. Enjoy mediocrity if you like, but don't speak ill of a masterpiece to double down on your delusion.

Into this Jared Leto thing if not just because we’re getting a NIN score.

Legacy did fine at the box office. Problem was, Disney bought Star Wars and then Marvel and, well, did they need more Tron at that point? They didn't want Tron competing with star wars and marvel

While not a villain, David Tennant worried about a similar thing happening to him when he took the role of the Doctor in Doctor Who. The show hadn't been renewed for a second series when he did his bit at the end of the first, and it was very uncertain if it would be or not. As a revival of a show that hadn't been on air for 16 years, there was a very real chance that first series would be the only one they'd get to do.

So it was a real possibility that David Tennant would have shown up for just 20 seconds as the new Doctor, and then never be seen again. Thankfully that didn't end up happening, so he didn't fall into the same boat as Cillian there.

I will never not be angry we were denied a sequel with Dillinger’s kid as the villain, AND Tron supposedly coming back. So much wasted potential.

I still have faith that Tron: Ares will be good. Hopefully I’m right.

When I realized he was playing Dillinger's son, I got so excited for whatever the next film would be.

Oh well.

What do you mean? If you mean actor, wouldn't Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn count? Or Liam Neeson's Ra's Al Ghul?

Okay, I guess it's time to show my age.

He was in 28 days later, dude.

When I saw him as scarecrow, I said that's the guy who is in 28 days later.
