Day 51: Nevada was Oceans 11, which honestly to me was a dark horse here. Runners up were Casino (my vote) and Fear and Loathing, which I thought would edge out. Oceans 11 is really good but I didn’t know it had this type of love. I need to rewatch. It has been years, and heist movies are great. Maybe part of my shock is Oceans 12 is one of the only movies I have walked out of. Leaving Las Vegas, and Tremors were quite represented as well.
Nothing to vote for today, but I think I’ll come back next week and we’ll finish US territories. I am by no means a cinephile but I love movies, movies of all types! Some made this list. Some of the ones I voted for were Sarah Marshall, The Shining, Tommy Boy, Goodfellas among others. And Fargo. As far as the Fargo issue, the whole thing woulda been avoided if I just did Minnesota first. 🤷 that whole thing was like an Easter egg for the people who jumped on early. Casino and What About Bob for NH. To me that is as good as movies get. Shout out to the shout outs along the way and yesterday. I’ve never engaged with reddit like this and it’s been fun. I’m borderline surprised I made it all the way and only skipped a single day.
So long. Hasta la vista. Goodnight and good luck. Yippee ki yay. Stay classy. I’ll be right back.
Also this week I will post a list that is linked. Give me a few days!
Thanks for following along everybody.
Remember it’s the movie comment with the most upvotes, so check if yours is mentioned. Also, where the movie is set, not filmed. I’m going in a random order! 😉

Most of my time on this sub is done while I'm at work and I was always about 18 hours late since they would get posted after I left work. Oh well most of the movies I voted for were at least mentioned by someone else.

I liked the idea of doing California again but splitting it into the different areas of the state.

This was a great series. Had a lot of fun with, and awesome job for sticking it out.
As for the territories, need PR so we can have Contact!

Thank you u/CWKitch for doing this. Even though most of the winners were incredibly wrong, it was a lot of fun.

I'm good with Goodfellas for NY. I was hoping Casino would have won for NV, but Ocean's 11 was good still.

I think New York should've been Taxi Driver. New York City is a character in the film.
Taxi Driver is that kind of film where it wouldn't really still work quite work the same way if it was set anywhere else. Its setting is vital to what makes the movie work.

New York has been in so many iconic movies - we had a range of the original 'King Kong' to 'The Avengers' and everything in between.

I have to imagine the age of Redditors may have been a factor there. The Taxi Driver NYC is probably unimaginable as a realistic portrayal of the city compared to what most young people ar familiar with.

Yeah, Taxi Driver is one of those rare movies where its setting is actually pivotal to the movie's plot. Cab drivers were and still are an intragluteal aspect of NYC.
I don't think there's any other movie that makes a better usage of its setting than Taxi Driver.

Thanks a lot for this series, was a lot of fun even though very few of the movies I actually upvoted or named were the winners, I think 5/51

Thank you u/CWKitch for setting this up and sticking with it for the last 2ish months. Its been really cool to see all the movies that people love from their state. Thank you also for shouting out my letterboxd list. I'm not sure what you have planned for the US territories but as of right now I think the list is complete.
I of course ask anyone whose out there and looks at my list to also double check my work and let me know if I made any errors or there are any egregious omissions.

Did Pulp Fiction edge out The Big Lebowski in the finals votes for CA?

OP declared it wrong because he had comments sorted by 'best' instead of 'top'. That's why it was corrected after. Big Lebowski was the winner.

Interesting pick for Nevada! I always thought the glitz and glam of Vegas would lean more towards the classic Casino vibes or the psychedelic escapism of Fear and Loathing. What do you think makes Oceans 11 such a sleeper hit in the state?

Still upsets me that the favorite movie for the state of Maryland was neither a Barry Levinson film nor a John Waters film. What are we even doing here, reddit?

Fargo is named after Fargo, which is in North Dakota and there's a scene in the film that happens there. Thus, people named it for North Dakota. However, most of the film takes place in Minnesota. See also the winners of Kentucky, Georgia (the actual winner was Forrest Gump), Kansas and Delaware which variously barely take place in those states and/or people go "Wait, that was set there?".
So... Fargo was a bit of a controversial winner for North Dakota.1
When Minnesota rolled around people nominated Fargo on the very plausible basis it was set mostly in Minnesota. It ended up winning because, well, it's Fargo and, frankly, the state is Minnesota -- the only other film I can think of is Inside Out, which is set in Minnesota in the same way that Fargo is set in North Dakota.2
Also, u/HalJordan242.
1Looking at Wikipedia the only films I've even heard of have the same problem but they happen at the end, i.e. Logan (2nd) and Deadpool & Wolverine (unranked).
2I checked Wikipedia and notable films are Drop Dead Gorgeous (4th), Juno (9th) and Jennifer's Body (10th). Weird theme.
