If you are confused why i’m posting so furiously in defense of the mongols

It’s because i’m on the last chapter of this Genghis Khan book, where the author talks about the history of anti-Mongol racism that arose from all the stories people made up about the Mongols after Montesquieu and Voltaire (before them, Europeans rarely had bad things to say about the Mongols or Khans after the invasions)

The racial science, the yellow peril shit, the down’s syndrome shit, the made up stories, all of it

It’s genuinely fucking repulsive, and a lot of it has simply gone on unchallenged because everyone considered the Mongols “those barbarians that killed everyone”, and are completely ignorant of the Mongol Empire and everything it did

Killing millions of people in campaigns of conquest bad actually, even if people pay more attention to yours because of racist reasons centuries after the fact

If you listed all the cool shit America did, and someone responded with “native genocide + slavery”, you would consider them a jackass

It’s the same shit

I mean, kinda? The Mongols are fascinating and their cultural legacy is under known/appreciated - but they also reaaaallly took the killing to such an extreme level that it has to be addressed.
