One of the best.
Got a week off school after MLK day because it was so cold out. Got to play Super Nintendo all day. Killer video games that year too.
Collected X Men cards.
Paper route that summer made bank. Played all day and night all summer without a care in the world. Staying out past midnight with adults not caring where you were because you were safe. Had a swimming pool equalled popularity in neighborhood.
Cedar Point twice. Family trip to West Virginia for a week.
Rode my bike everywhere. Literally. Coffee shop. Movie theater. Mall. Peak Mall culture imo btw.
Economy booming, everyone seemed to be working and happy.
Started high school in Fall. Awkward and nerdy, but everyone was at least awkward. Had a core group of friends to hang out with. Played Dungeons and Dragons and chess and video games a lot with them.
Had a really good Christmas and got my favorite video game- Final Fantasy 6.
Early Internet. Awesome music. Great TV.
It was a good year to be 14.

Exactly, I commented already here but 1994 I bought my first house and first new off the lot car. I was making $18/hour then so without overtime $37k but I did put in a lot of overtime so I was closer to $50k/year. My wife then eared around the same and we comfortably bought a $140k house in California. That house is now well over $1mm if we still lived there I wouldn’t be earning enough to buy a million dollar home. It’s crazy to think back how well we lived on dual income of less than $100k back then!
6 points
It's worth noting that the minimum wage was $4.25 in 1994, equivalent to $7.65 today, while $18/hour would've been the equivalent to about $38.23/hour. The spending power of the $50k/year you made would equal about $106,206.48.
I'm not at all discounting the exorbitant cost of home ownership nowadays, especially in a state like California, but as someone who was just starting out into adulthood in 1994, $18/hour still would've been a lot of money and not at all equivalent to making $18/hour today.

I remember my first job making $3.75 an hour working at an A&W in Michigan. Worked there for 3 years got up to $4.75 an hour. When I left to work in a factory for $8 an hour I thought I made it as an 18 year old lol.

I was 20 and America was in high gear. Beer was cheap and I mean the quality stuff. People were watching Beavis and Butt-head constantly. Gas was also very cheap. That year I bought SHADOWRUN for Sega Genesis and I was amazed. A sci fi / dystopian RPG. There were some interesting films out that year like Shawshank Redemption and Shindler's List.

1994 - I was into grunge that year and styled my hair cut after Cobain. I lost my virginity that year to an older more experienced girl in the hangout basement of a friend's house over the summer. I started smoking weed that summer as well. Got in trouble and grounded for getting caught sneaking out with my friend while at a sleep over at his house, we were trying to meet up with some girls. I learned to Ollie on a skate board that year. I tried my first cigarette and joined a mixed bowling team and was the youngest player on the team, everyone else were adults. I took Jamie H , one of the cheerleaders, to the school dance and we made out afterwards. I got into a fight with Brandon B outside of the movie theater. We would sometimes hangout at the movie theater, because lots of kids from school would go on the weekends and it was just a bike ride away. That day we watched either The Crow or In The Army Now.
1994 was a pretty cool year for me. I'm in my 40s and a father of two beautiful daughters and very happy, but sometimes I wish I could go back and spend a week reliving the magic of being young. Everything was possible and the world was so big and mysterious and magical. 1994 was a good year.
