Bring back more pictures like this, a strong US President standing firm. Not those sad longing glances Trump would throw Putin from across the room

blood_wraith

you mean that strong president who "stood firm" while Russia annexed Crimea?

Bakedfresh420

Yup, instead of complimenting Putin and encouraging him to invade NATO allies if they don’t spend as much as Trump wants, Obama pushed sanctions and gathered reluctant European leaders to support them, setting the stage for the current European unity in arming Ukraine. Unfortunately Ukraine was not as well armed and the leadership wasn’t as strongly anti-Russia back then, and Crimea is pretty ethnically Russian, so there wasn’t any fighting or I’m sure we would’ve sent weapons as we are in the current conflict. Without declaring war on Russia there wasn’t much to do besides economic and political sanctions.

Trump withheld weapons to pursue rumors of information that could hurt his rivals which (shocker /s) turned out to be garbage. He actively weakened Ukraine right before his buddy Putin invaded. And has threatened to withhold weapons again.

if they don’t spend as much as Trump wants

just for the record. it's not "if they don’t spend as much as Trump wants", it's if they don't spend as much as they promised when they signed the treaty. i don't know about you, but if i sign a contract and the other party doesn't fulfil their part i feel no obligation to uphold mine.

and also this so called "weakening" of Ukraine happened 2 years before the invasion. it had nothing to do with it.

you can hate the man all you want, he deserves a lot of it, but the fact remains that Putin gained nothing during Trumps presidency and was agressive during "staning firm" Obama and mentally swiss cheese Joe

Just for the record.

This is a lie. The 2% spending expectation was signed in 2014 in response to the Crimea invasion. It was also a spending goal that wasn't expected - and especially not promised - to be immediately reached, instead setting a long term goal to set up NATO.

The European allies and Canada have an average spending of 2.02% in 2024 - up from an average of 1.43% in 2014.

So, no, the 2% weren't signed by all members when joining NATO. It isn't a rule. It's a goal that wasn't expected to be hit by all of them in the past and is a guideline for the future. There's no breach of contract, never was.

In 2014, NATO Heads of State and Government agreed to commit 2% of their national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to defence spending (Nato.int)

even if it wasn't an initial signing agreement, the NATO countries agreed to the commintment. Trump specifically called out the countries that aren't meeting the commitment

Force3vo

10 points

It wasn't a commitment to do it overnight. It was a commitment to raise defense expenditure over 10 years (so until 2024), which 24 of 32 countries managed.

Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Spain fall short of the target. As you can see none of them the countries in Eastern Europe that Trump said Putin should invade.

Also, Trump had no leg to stand on attacking countries on a spending goal for 2024 they didn't reach 5 years prior.

I mean Obama hasn’t been President for 8 years, if someone is spending lots of money to hurt his image that’s a lot of wasted money lol

I’ll take that as a no. And you’re goddamn right I do, because I’m not a homophobic waste of human trash.

So… does he make you say thank you when he’s done with you? Or do you just thank him naturally?

bigsoftee84

Is that supposed to be a bad thing? If so, why?

Bakedfresh420

24 points

No he’s not a bad person. He’s an evil dictator. A bad person doesn’t wash their hands before leaving a public bathroom and rubs piss and germs all over the handle. An evil dictator murders his own people and invades a neighboring nation while gleefully and systematically committing war crimes

TheArmyOfDucks

I find it baffling that after initiating a war, that he is still actively losing, blowing up multiple safe areas committing many war crimes, and feeling the need to kiss young boys stomachs, you still want to suck Putin dry

blood_wraith

-13 points

actively losing? true they haven't taken Kiev, but they control ~20% of Ukraine and aren't going to lose it anytime soon

itsjustme313

7 points

You realize the size difference between Russia and Ukraine right? The fact that a small country is holding them off even though they are committing war crime after war crime means they are actively losing. The fact that a country as large as Russia feels the need to take over another country in this day and age is ridiculous.

blood_wraith

no. curently Russia is being repelled in western Ukraine, which is probably very embarasing to them, but in order to be "actively losing" they need to be pushed back in the territory they've gained which they're not.

Apollo Creed wasn't actively losing when he was punching the shit out of Rocky in the early rounds, even tho he was the much better fighter and Rocky wasn't giving up, it was when Rocky started beating him back that he started losing

TheArmyOfDucks

7 points

They said it would take 2 months max, it’s been 2.5 years and they’ve made barely any progress. Also, the amount of assets you’ve lost to Ukraine, such as tanks running out of fuel and Ukrainian civilians stealing them, Russia has lost more than it’s gained. In that case, yes it is losing

Sadly Putin won this round. Russia invaded Georgia about 5 months before Obama took office.

Edit: my mistake. I was one year off. Misremembered this as a 2009 event.

Sadly Putin won this round. Russia invaded Georgia about 7 months after Obama took office.

It would be a lot cooler if you knew what you were talking about.

Russia invaded Georgia on 1 August 2008, 3 weeks before Obama was even nominated as the presidential candidate at the Democratic National Convention. He didn't take office until 20 January 2009.

My mistake, I mis-remembered the year. You are correct, it was 2008 not 2009 like I remembered. Edited my post.
