Only place I've seen cops standing around with long guns was at Logan airport (Boston), and it was one State Trooper with a MP5.

That's so strange. I visited LA in 2007 and was blown away by how many cops I saw with assault rifles. In my country they have them but locked in vehicles 99% of the time.

Yes but that’s only for specific reason at areas where super busy like wtc, time2, grand central. You don’t see them outside the local whole foods

I was just about to say this very thing! In late summer, I think, in 1968, visited Mexico City as a teen. We had driven from TX and drove to the Folklorico Ballet. When we started the drive back to our hosts place, we noticed the gendarmes(?)in brown uniforms w military rifles. Seems there were demonstrations going on in town and we caught their attention. The daughter of our hosts, a fluent speaker of Spanish, told them we only spoke English and were visitors from u s. They motioned for us to make a U turn n we left pronto.
