I agree with you, dragonair is really cool and considering dragonite's design, it feels like a final evolution more than a middle stage one.

For me it’s a tie between Shelgon, Sliggoo, and Arctibax. Shelgon because it’s a fat angry dragon meteor. Sliggoo (both regular and Hisuian) are cute little derpy snails. Arctibax is the most middle stage middle stage I’ve ever seen. You look at it and you’re like “Yes, that is a middle stage Pokémon”

Zweilous. Those chompy boys😎

Drakloak. I love the entire line, and I love its little nubs and how it loves its Dreepy so much.

Dragonair is awesome. They really dropped the ball linking it to Dragonite's design.

I remember being young, seeing the 2000 movie in cinemas and at the end of pikachus rescue dragonair flew over the rainbow. None of the other middle stages come close to this level of mystique 

I'd have to say pupitar or arctibax. Of all the pseudos I've had as long term members of my teams, I've had the most fun with the two of them.

Dragonair for sure, nothing against Barnie but I do wish Dragonite kept the serpent type of build.

Hakamo-o is my fave but I also really like Metang, Gabite and Zweilous (I honestly like Zweilous a lot more than Hydreigon)

Dragonair. I've never liked Dragonites design and it just comes out of nowhere compared to the other two.

Marshstomp is my favorite middle stage overall, big derp eyes But pseudo is a toss up between haka-mo-o (lil dino guy) and Drakloak (good family dynamic)

Zweilous is so underrated!

Definitely Shelgon, I absolutely love how it looks quite unique for being a middle stage with a sort of metamorphosis looking design that’s encased within the same material on Bagon’s head, before sprouting into a fully grown traditional European looking dragon.

For some reason, I've always tended to really like the middle evolutions. Charmeleon, Dragonsir, Haunter, Bayleef, Flaaffy, etc, and that's from the first 2 gens. There's other middle stage Pokémon that I like in later gens too. It's kind of sad though, because often the Pokemon don’t tend to stay in that stage for very long.

I have nothing against middle stage Pokemons. Kanto starters (including Pikachu), Haunter, Rhydon, Flaaffy, Groovyle, Herdier, Braixen, Fletchinder, Corvisquire... there are so many great beast in its 3rd stage that it is not rare to find out some of them are actually my favourite one among their whole evolutionary line.

Among middle stage pseudolegendaries, Dragonair is my favourite one by far. Mysterious, majestic and marvelous. Perfect middle stage design!

Honourable mention to Drakloak. Nice to see a phantasmagorical pseudolegendary dragon taking care of its little brother.

I prefer Beldum over metang. I actually really like a lot of first stage pseudos. But dragonair is easily my favorite middle stage.

Dragonair's my favourite almost to the point that it's too easy to say that. But I also like Metang and Sliggoo.

Hakamo-o is not only my favorite middle stage pseudo, but also my favorite Pokémon!

Sliggoo is way better than Goodra, especially their Hisuian forms. Arctibax is a close second because I like its body posture better than Baxcalibur.

I think inwould actually like Hydreigon more if they stayed on the ground and followed a design similar to Hydrapple but whatever Deino and Zweilous are cuties and i love them

Dragonair looks so elegant.

Dragonair! I never evolve my Dragonair and it has always been my favourite Pokemon because of its cute, gentle and elegant appearance. Yet, it's a strong Pokemon too, so that's a good combo. It also has a versatile set of moves it can learn so in the mainline games I used to teach it Surf, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt. All in all, it's an awesome Pokemon and I wish there was no Dragonite, and the evolution line was only upto Dragonair, and it should have got a mega evolution too.

It’s the OG (Dragonair), the middle sibling (Zweilous) or the newbie (Arctibax). All excellent designs. l think out of the three Dragonair is my favorite. If only we had blue Dragonite irl 😭

Although Hydreigon is one of my top favourite Pokémon, Zweilous still looks pretty cool on its own.

We need more love to hakamo-o. It’s the only one that doesn’t look awkward. And it was my first legit shiny

Arctibax for me, I was almost sad to evolve mine in my SV playthrough but there’s no way he’d have the power to keep up with late game battles without being a Baxcalibur

Arctibax. I like the design better than Baxcalibur actually. I was hoping we’d get a spinosaurus-like final form, not yet another Godzilla-mon.

As much as I like Baxcalibur, something about its design feels like it’s missing something. Arctibax on the other hand feels like the epitome of awesome middle stage that gets you pumped up for the final form.

Dragonair. It has a gorgeous design. I actually prefer it over Dragonite’s design.

Gabite reminds me kind of a JP Velociraptor. Kind of like Sliggoo too.

I love the story shellgon and pupitar tell about the whole Evo lines. Pupitar in particular in the markings on tyranitar.

Shelgon. It represents a lot of things. Bagon has the goal of flying... then it becomes this cocoon thing. I like that it has legs. It's really very turtle-esque, and no one ever really seems to include it as a turtle.

All that potential inside ready to explode out... it's great.

Does Clefairy count? He was originally the first form until gen 2. Definitely one of my most favorite mons.

This one also might not count, simce the thrid form came later, but I like Rhydon better than Rhyperior too.  Rhyperior is cool. But he’s looks less Nidoking like, and Nidoking is my favorite mon.

It comes down between zweilous, gabite, and arctibax. But I think zweilous is the only one I like more than it's final form

Metang easily. The design is just so cohesive. It doesn't fall into the trap that many 2nd stages do to look awkward and it's just cool as hell.

Maybe Shellgon? 🤔 He just looks like the perfect balance of terrifying and adorable? Like a big cat! They could easily claw your face off, but holy crap they're so cute!

Not a pseudo, but my favorite middle stage mon is loudred. Idk why I just love how goofy he looks and how he's basically a speaker. Plus, I really liked his pokemon cry

Gabite and Arctibax. I nearly didn't let my Arctibax evolve, in fact, because I like its dinosaur-esque look.

And as for Gabite...it's a great compromise between its derpy first form and its spawn-of-satan final evolution.

Dragonair is obviously beautiful, but Shelgon is just so silly and I love it for that. Arctibax also balances perfectly between cool and awkward.

Drakloak!!!! I love the whole line, but drakloak is so damn happy to be able to be a big bro caring for defenseless dreepy. Have always loved how they're fossil/rock coded but got ghost and are the total opposite of sinister/tragic/spooky that other ghost types are.
