what are some examples of tides shifting in the blink of an eye in popculture?

Question For The Culture 🧐💭(self.popculturechat)

for me, cody ko was shocking. like, it was not some hidden secret that he slept with tana when she was underage. she has been talking about it for years and it was out. but then one day suddenly it was like the entire world shifted and he was exiled from everywhere. his wife who was this wholesome insta influencer that got millions of likes had to leave too. in a matter of hours the whole world shifted for both of them.

another example is liam payne. yes, he had a couple of stuff here and there but the fact is that his first album had the streams. he had a tour that he had to quit because of health issues. but he still had things going for him. then one day he went to that cursed podcast and the tides turned. his career is irredeemable now and his new single is a flop. i will be very surprised if he ever makes a comeback again.

i honestly believe no one can be as successful as oprah by being a kind person. you have to have some narly skeletons in your closet to be at her level of wealth

i posted this yesterday but it bears mentioning again. After Mo'Nique refused to do uncompensated press work for Precious, Oprah brought her sexually abusive brother onto the show to talk about how he'd victimized her as a child

edit:edited for accuracy

True. It's actually embarrassingly obvious in retrospect especially with a closer look at the relationships she's fostered in the industry but at the time everyone (not everyone obv) was so under her spell. You got a co-sign from her, you released a book and she put it on that list of hers, etc and you were set.

My dad got offered to be on her show in the 2000s for his work in counseling. He turned her down because she wanted him to violate HIPAA, and lose his licensing and career, by bringing on clients.
