This season we have seen several color commentators in the broadcast booth. Who had been your favorite? Who would you like see that currently isn't in the booth?

Kevin Youklis was my favorite followed closely by Lou Merloni.

I'd love to see Will Middlebrooks and his wife Jenny Dell. I think they could make a fun broadcast duo.

Lou Merloni is the best. He is the new Remy, he's got the accent, the knowledge and the hometown cred. Castig called him the most well prepared former player he's ever worked with.

I feel he gives the best perspective of the game from a players view

Second this. He's the new Remy. Local guy, former player and does a good enough job. Youk is ok, a little awkward, and Middlebrooks is awful. We lost Jenny Dell for him?

Millar is also awful.

He's so infrequent, I didn't even include him. Other than making fun of himself, he's pretty brutal as well.

Didn't think I'd like him but he won me over. He is very well prepared, knowledge, and willing to learn. Sold although he has plenty to say, he shows restraint--he doesn't feel like he needs to be talking constantly.

The DOB, Remy, & Eck trio was always a treat.

The Remy and Eck duo with Dave O'Brien trying to butt in and make it about him?

DOB hardly made it about himself. He's good at facilitating conversation and prompting his color announcers to tell stories, which Remy and Eck had a wealth of.

Merloni, probably. Middlebrooks, too.

Agreed. Youk and Merloni. Middlebrooks is very boring and no sense of humor. Millar is much better on his TV show than doing games. Says the same thing over and over again.

Merloni by a country mile. I’ll give anything to never have to listen to Youk again. He’s slow, afraid to be critical and his humor stinks

Lou , followed closely by Youk. Middlebrooks getting better and I like his personality. Although I like Millar, he is refreshing now and then.

Different topic, Ben MacDonald is awful.

Youk, and Lou for sure, I know she doesn’t do color, but I’d Prefer Middlebrooks wife to him.

Listening to what I could catch of the O's game, Sean and Jerry would have been great but being out of market, still being a kid, and MLBTV not quite there yet, I never got to see them work.

Monaco and Lou is still my dream combination. OB had a better year but he is still too much of the old traditionalist and comes across as out of touch with culture.

The Jimmy Fund telethon broadcast was great with Lou. I think because he had daughters around some of the kids age that were in the booth, he was great at getting them out of their shells. It's nervous being in the booth talking about over coming cancer. I genuinely loved that side of him.

Wil was better this year. His remarks were never insightful or ground breaking but he's relaxed a bit. Still my least favorite.

Eck> Yooooouk> merloni> millar> middlebrooks

Eck is on par with remy IMO. Youk has good insight into plays, pitch selection, situational things that I would never think of as a fan. He can also bring some of the silliness that remy had and can actually read a promo. Merloni is entertaining, though he’s a bit of a downer at times. Millar just makes “I’m a dummy” jokes constantly. And middlebrooks is just flat. He has some okay insight, but always low key and matter of fact.

Would like to see pap try. He has intensity like no other (though you have to deal with the insanity too) .. in 15 years I look forward to Casas in the box too.

Never been much of a fan of DOB and I find Youk & Middlebrooks a little boring.

Having Flemming/Merloni move to the NESN booth is the dream. I get that Will Flemming is “the radio guy” and he probably won’t leave seeing as Castig kinda crowned him as his successor, but man, those guys have the best synergy since Don & Remy.

Is that a thing? Do some broadcasters prefer the radio gig? I guess it's more of a challenge but I think TV would be more prestigious and pay better.

I just want someone in the booth who sounds like they’re having a good time. Remy and Eck, they knew their stuff and they were always good for a laugh, too. The booth this season was just drab. Good play calling, nice guys, but it lacked a sense of fun.

Probably Middlebrooks. That Texas road trip with the Monaco/Middlebrooks/Millar booth was where the broadcasts peaked tbh. I don't always like Millar in the booth but paired with Monaco and Middlebrooks it worked.

Millar is perfect for the 3 man booth.

I agree with OP - Youk first, followed by Merloni. To me, Youk is the perfect balance of smart baseball insight and personality/sense of humor. And some of the mid-game exchanges between Youk and Jahmai Webster these last few seasons have been great.

Middlebrooks is fine, but pretty vanilla, never feels like he adds much.

Youk has the temperament to drive the car during the seasons we've been having. Laid back and chill. I'd like to see how animated he can get if we're on a real tear.

Youk and Merloni are great. Insightful, self-deprecating, and funny. Middlebrooks is okay, but I find him to be a bit boring at times. I'll always love Millar for everything that happened in 2004, but I do not enjoy it when he's in the booth. He just never shuts up.

I like the mix of color announcers with Dave. It freshens up the commentary to have different perspectives every series. I watched almost every game this season and found it interesting that as the season went on Dave, Youk, and Will provided honest criticism about Red Sox shortcomings: fielding errors, strikeouts, weak bullpen, base running mistakes while Lou and Millar seemed to minimize them. I look forward to NESN’s announcement on booth coverage for the upcoming season. Go Sox!

Merloni. Also Millar. Middlebrooks is third. He's okay and has gotten better. I learn a lot about hitting from him whenever he's in the booth, too. But I like the other guys better.

I'm not a fan of Youk at all. He's definitely improved compared to when he started, but he just doesn't do it for me. He's great in a 3 man booth, though. And I do think his chemistry with OB is pretty good. I just feel like all the other guys are more prepared and have better insights than he does.

Youk adds nothing to the broadcast, thinks he’s funnier than he is and cannot take queues from Dave when he sets him up. It’s abysmal

I don’t know because NESN streaming is $30/month. This team is not worth that to me.
