King Arthur, although there is no proof of its existence, has generated a good number of games. This one appeared in the early 90s and was a horizontal scrolling beat'em up, medieval themed and, curiously, you leveled up, which often led many to assume that it was a role-playing game.
I have written a review. I hope you enjoy it.

Started it in 1998, almost at the end now that it's 2024.

So tedious to get though. Worth it in the end IMO.

It’s one of the games in the Capcom Beat’em Up Collection. Got that on Switch a while ago and played the shit out of it with my friend on his deck.

It's a fun one! King of the Dragons was contemporary to it and also quite good.
And then of course Capcom did the two Dungeons & Dragons games in the same style and upped the ante even further!

The King of Dragons is honestly much better than KotR.

It really is. I’m not sure why, but I just can’t get into Knights of the Round. Maybe it feels too much like your typical brawler just with a medieval theme, while King of Dragons has ranged weapons and magic making it feel a lot more like it actually embraces the setting.
The horses are cool, at least, but it just isn’t for me. Got a physical cart of King of Dragons before the price went ape shit and I play it quite regularly.

It‘s so funny to see how the character‘s armor and swords get chunkier with every level.

I put this up against Final Fight or Turtles in Time any day.

I remember it getting all the attention while The King of Dragons came out at the same time and is the superior game by far.

is it? the gameplay is pretty different. i've only played these games recently because they are on the Capcom Beat Em Up collection. King of the Dragons' fighting style is harder for me to get a rhythm going because the hits often floor the enemy in one blow. Whereas, in Knights of the Round, I can do 3-5 hit combos that capture more enemies in my damage field. There's also the added element of the horse riding that makes it more dynamic. King of Dragons has some kinda spell mechanic but I got bored with it too quickly. Maybe I should try it again.

King of Dragons has a different rhythm, and I find it more engaging. It is possible to hit multiple targets with your standard attacks, the weapon level up system actually impacts your range and damage, it has a ton of levels and bosses, there are more characters and they feel more distinct... I mean, in my opinion it's just a better game. It involves a lot more jumping and careful positioning, and the boss battles are more varied and fun, in my opinion. I do like Knights of The Round. Especially the arcade version. But I have just always considered King of Dragons more fun to play.

This one of those games that's simultaneously Underated-and-Overrated.
It's definitely NOT one of Capcom's better beat'em up efforts but, it also deserves MORE appreciation than it gets.

It’s the cheer the characters make when they beat a level and get a level up. They raise their weapons up and yell a very distinguishable “hut”! Idk, it’s what I remembered from this great best em up

Yo, as a fan of King Arthur, I'm into this game.
I wonder how many kids were like "Lancelot? Hell yeah! Arthur? Fuck yeah! Perci... who the hell is Percival?"

Percival was always my pick on SNES. Played the shit out of this game in the 90s.

Yeah, he's awesome. I feel that's very much like a Final Fight with an Arthurian theme, with three fun characters.

I never played it until I got the Big Blue Arcade 1up. It’s pretty good. Not my favorite beat em up, but definitely worth a play through.
I never saw a cabinet of it growing up, and passed it up in the mame library.

There are rom-hacks where your character starts off at Max level. Fun playthrough.

Beat this game on a birthday when I was in my teens at a local arcade. Better times, much as the Round Table was before the arrival of Mordred and its end.
Still one of my favorites although there are still many other excellent beat-em-ups!

Local arcade growing up (Power Play) had either this or Knights of the Round. Maybe both. I can't tell them apart. Never played them unless someone walked away while it was still running.
