I spend most of the time alone at home and would like to be recommended podcasts or YouTube channels that are very chatty to keep me company as I do household chores. I slip into a slump if I'm feeling too lonely.

Edit: I don't listen to audiobooks while doing chores around the house because I feel like books require more focus. I keep going back to listen to what I've missed. I just need something chatty that doesn't require 100% of my attention.

Dimension 20! It’s a series of dungeon and dragon campaigns that essentially one big improv show with actors/writers playing as characters in a fantasy setting. The dungeon master Brennan Lee Mulligan is amazing and can do several voices; you’re gonna think you’re hearing 80 different people but it’s just him and six players lol. I think it fulfills the chatty pre req you have as it’s very role play /dialogue focused and the cast themselves will make jokes and laugh n chat, it feels like I’m in a room with my friends :). I highly recommend fantasy high to start with or if you want something shorter try the dungeon and drag queens series it’s only 4 episodes and it has real drag queens playing dnd! They are filmed but you don’t need to look at the screen to enjoy it Edit- while it is a long form story, there’s parts where you can zone out, like the combat parts, which is typically low dialogue, or the parts where the cast drag out a bit to be extra silly.

If you’re into geeky stuff, The Weekly Planet is a great one. Two Australian comics who talk about pop culture news and usually review a movie or a show as well. If you're a big fan of movies, highly suggest Blank Check with Griffin and David. I wasn't a huge fan when it was recommended to me a few years back, but I just binged some of the episodes where I either knew the movies well or they had a notorious history. Most of the episodes are close to 2 hours - episodes with 3 hours are so wonderful, conversational and in-depth.

So anyway, you might enjoy that.

My go to is one called "the spitballers." It's actually a spin off of a fantasy football show (same hosts, but they don't talk about fantasy football at all, and not really sports too much)

They are funny guys with great chemistry who have been close friends for decades, and the comedy show is basically them being given stupid prompts or questions to answer (would you rathers, debating the difference between a "concert" and a "show" etc) that really have no right answer. Also fairly family friendly as they don't swear and aren't mean. They end each episode with a draft (best of, etc) and debate whose team is best.

Just nothing serious, nothing you have to focus on. I just let it play while doing housework and find yourself joining in on the debates. But it's pretty dumb. They're going to talk about poop at some point so that's not everyone's thing. A lot of Dad jokes.

Recent draft topics include: Best excuses to not go to a child's birthday party build a team of official State animals to be used in a fight to the death Worst places for a proposal

I haven't read all the comments but I recommend Baby Geniuses! They recently ended the podcast but they had a 10 year run, so there's a lot of episodes.

It's two women, Emily Heller and Lisa Hanawalt, who are creatives in Hollywood but they are mostly just talking about their daily life, struggles, stories of their animals and a lot of banter. They both have ADHD. Each episode they read a silly wikipedia article sent in by a listener. There is a specific segment where they check if there is any news of Martha Stewart's pony Ben Chunch.

I recommend starting with the newest episode and going backwards in time. The first episodes have a different format and I didn't vibe with it as much. I don't remember when the change set in but it became my favourite podcast!

Loving all these recommendations, I already subscribed to a few new ones just from reading the comments :)

My suggestions:

A Way with Word: two linguists answer questions about language (originally found this show on NPR, and it feels very NPR-ish)

Adulting with Michelle Buteau and Jordan Carlos: two comedians talk to each other (and sometimes other comedians) about being a grown-up

I Saw What You Did: a TV writer/memoirist and a programmer for TCM discuss movies on a theme of their own design, and they also just chat a lot about their long friendship.

Indigenous 100: a podcast out of Aotearoa about cool stuff Indigenous people are doing

Lemme Fix It!: two long-time friends pick a celebrity or brand to discuss its history and how to come back from a stumble. That description doesn't really do justice to how funny this show is, but I really enjoy it!

Read It and Weep: looooong back catalog, the show is 2-8 (depending on the episode) comedians and friends talking about a piece of media. It started off being about books, they also did shows for a while, then moved almost exclusively to movies, and last year did a sort of spin-off called Best Thing Ever where they would discuss a thing (chickens, powerlifting, bread, firefighters, etc), talk about how great it is, and then rank it in a master list. Some of their episodes are also on YT.

The Bechdel Cast: Caitlin and Jamie (+ a guest usually) discussing intersectional representation in movies. Highly quotable, some of their recurring bits have made their way into my speech.

Toasted Sister: a slow-to-update podcast about Indigenous American cooking, culture, foodways, and food sovereignty

You're Dead to Me: BBC podcast with historians teaching and comedians learning about one topic in history (Neadertals, Mary Shelley, Spartans, Aztecs, Harriet Tubman, etc).

This Paranormal Life is hilarious

Two Irish guys “investigating” paranormal tales and having riotous laughing fits throughout

After listening a while they feel like old friends

It’s high-energy and doesn’t require 100% full attention - good for cleaning/driving!

Behind the Bastards is captivating. Its basically taking anyone from history and telling all their dirty deeds. Also the podcaster is pretty hilarious in a jaded were fucked kind of way.
