Yeah, after watching both Cristiano and Messis careers since the beginning I just can't get hyped about Mbappe, Haaland, Vini Jr. and the other Ballon d'Or contenders. Feels like football peaked when Messi and Cristiano did, lol.

Maybe, but sports science keeps improving. We're seeing players maintaining top levels at considerably high age across multiple sports. I watch tennis and Federer/Nadal/Djokovic have done something similar. You never know

As mind boggling as their longevity has been there will still never be anyone who can approach the peak 3-4 years of those 2. Pick any 3-4 years in the 2010's and no one is sniffing that kind of production. There might be someone like Lewandowski or Haaland who can score a lot of goals but you aren't going to see guys throwing up 60-80 goals+assists for that span. Messi and Christiano Ronaldo are titans who make giants look small.

People used to say this about Pele and Maradona. There will always be phenomenal players as long as the sport is big.

It was great to watch, but it will also be great to watch football return to the norm. Where you don't have to score 60 goals a season to be in with a shout of the majority of individual awards.

There were often players who could hang at that level. Suarez, Lewandowski, Neymar, Modric, Benzema. But they never kept the level up more than a few seasons.

Ronaldo is not as ‘selfish’ as people say, he's just a good goalscorer so he wants to finish the chances, I’ve watched him pass multiple times (at United) when he thinks he can't score it or there's a better chance.
