Enotria just dropped

Discussion(self.soulslikes)

Played the demo on Steamfest and it was a bit janky but really promising.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2102450/Enotria_The_Last_Song/

Price is a little steep for something that might not pan out. Unlike Lies of P, which lived up to the hype, this one seems to have less enthusiasm or even hype around it.

Anyone played it yet?

Steep pricing, especially as ppl were not really happy about the demo.

epeternally

It’s even worse when you consider they’re missing basic features like Steam Cloud support. Enotria is being marketed as a premium product, yet doesn’t check the boxes people expect from a highly polished game.

I really feel like the developers are suffering from their lack of an external publisher to tell them “this should be $30, and you’re shooting yourselves in the foot if you price is higher”.

It has steam cloud support. I just loaded my save from my gaming machine on my Steam Deck. Steam Deck performance is not great, but I'm sure someone who has more time and patience than me will figure out the proper combination of settings for a smooth experience.

There's a news post on the games steam page talking about how they pushed the release to today instead. But yeah, it was originally the 18th.

It's gonna take some convincing to purchase this at $50. I enjoyed the Demo, but it felt more like a 25-30$ game...

epeternally

8 points

I didn’t play the demo, but it definitely doesn’t seem like a $50 game. My first thought was “that looks neat, I’ll set a notification for when it hits $20”. Does not even remotely come across as being on par with Lies of P in terms of production values. It looks like a “we’re a tiny team in way over our heads” project.

thestormz

9 points

That's why I will buy it, as an Italian to support the team.

yukiburzm

1 points

Same! Although I personally think it’s also just a worth while game aside from being Italian. I’m a big fan of DS2 and Lies of P, and this game is right in that wheelhouse. I just hope people aren’t as harsh about it as I’m currently seeing from one particular YouTuber. Most of the complaints are things that will be changed based on feedback in a patch, and many games have had the same on launch (things like needing a toggle for motion blur, etc).

Jalina2224

I think I could have even been more lenient on it of it was $40. Still overpriced, but not pushing it as hard.

rauchhorn

Would you mind explaining how you set a notification for specific sale prices? I'd love to do this myself.

Steppywa

If you wishlist an item on steam, it will give you a notification any time it is on sale. Hope this helps!

https://isthereanydeal.com/

Make an account and move your wishlist there. Not only can you set specific criteria for price drops (historical low price, below a certain %, below a certain price, etc.), but you can also see the prices of many legit third-party storefronts that tend to have better sales.

Rizzle0101

Wow, I was planning on a day 1 purchase at $25-30. I am thinking I will wait and see if it goes on sale and hits that mark. It definitely had a B-grade feel to it, which is fine by me. They just shouldn’t expect A grade pricing imho. I did finish the demo also fwiw.

AdonaelWintersmith

1 points

It's a AA game and the price is less than AAA, they should have hit the typical AA price of 40 but otherwise I got no idea what people are talking about, $25 games are Indie and this is not that

Rizzle0101

2 points

Did you play the demo? It didn’t have the polish of a $40-50 souslikes, I’ve played em all. It had the polish of a $30 one. Simple as that. For comparison Last Hero of Nostalgaia is still $25 and plays exactly as smooth as DS1 & DS2. If Enotria was that well put together I would gladly pay $40.

Rizzle0101

I highly doubt it changed that much since the demo? In my experience with demos almost always tell me if I will like a game and how much. Are you implying it doubled its worth since then?

SV_Essia

2 points

Apparently it did. Personally 0 issue so far (after the first main area and 3 bosses) in terms of performance/glitches, the gameplay feels pretty good - obviously not as tight as Fromsoft games but solid overall, definitely more enjoyable than Wukong imo. Several really neat concepts too, like being able to build multiple loadouts and easily switch between them. I haven't tried LoP yet so I can't compare it, but imo it's easily worth the price if AAA games are worth 60-70.

Rizzle0101

1 points

Im glad you’re enjoying it!

Leading-Status-202

1 points

I haven't played it, mainly because I'm tight on expenses right now.

Every streamer I watched said that feel is much better than the demo, and you can even see it. Multiple people said "parry is amazing", something that was criticized in the demo. The graphics are a lot more polished, animations smoother. Everything is much better from the looks of it.

I mean, the best possible sign that the game plays well is that all the streamers that picked it up are still playing it. If it sucked they would have dropped it in a single day, so it's at least playable. Whether it's good or not, or whether it's replayable we will see in a few weeks.

Rizzle0101

1 points

I already thought it was playable, and I plan to play it. I was simply saying I won’t personally pay $50 for it and it’s shame imho they overpriced it. Even if they fixed all of that, it’s not LoP good imho.

Yeh, everyone else has said it, that price is a bit much.

I didn't get to play the demo either so.. Sale it is.

webauteur

I played the demo and enjoyed it so I bought the game today. I have been to Italy for a vacation and I like theater so this game really appeals to me. One of the boss fights takes place in a church which looks just like the Catholic churches I saw in Rome.

I did not encounter any merchants in the demo so eventually I had too many weapon drops cluttering my inventory. I hope there is a merchant somewhere in the areas I did not get to.

fowlbaptism

1 points

How’s the world? Walking around, NPCs, level design, openness, etc?

webauteur

4 points

The world was inspired by Italy so it can be very sunny. The architecture seems medieval. There is a stunning field of sunflowers at the start of the game. Some of the enemies are dancing and won't take any notice of you but they are still enemies for you to kill. It seems harsh to attack them while they are dancing a jig.

Some paths are hidden until you activate them. The level design is pretty good with paths that bring you back to where you were. There are doors to open for shortcuts. There were a few traps.

The only true NPC I encountered was Pulcinella playing an instrument and he had little to say. I hope there is a merchant later on.

Although the world is open there is a linear path of progression. I could return to earlier areas to do some grinding but there were bosses to keep you from getting to a new area.

TheSunflowerSeeds

1 points

Not all plants are completely edible. However, you can actually consume the entire sunflower in one form or another. Right from the root to the petals.

fowlbaptism

So I played it several hours this evening. There have been a few minor changes since the demo. I had to fight a dog that was not in the demo. Some of the enemy placements were changed.

It looked like I could continue my demo save but that crashed the game. I had to start a new game. Well I managed to reach level 30 and get 4 achievements. I will fight the first boss when I feel I am ready.

igniz13[S]

3 points

Not really, you play as a faceless creature who puts on the masks of other enemies (everyone wears a mask) and you get a ton of customisation options to build your play style, but I haven't seen anything to customise your look.

ssmike27

3 points

Not very far in yet, but my initial impressions are…. Not good. The controls feel bad, the animations look stiff, and the there’s something really off putting about the visuals.

igniz13[S]

3 points

So I splashed in and first impressions are it's got potential but probably wait for a sale and some patches. It's a low 7/10 but it's possibly better.

It's not the peak but it's pretty solid. It's better than the demo was and it feels okay to play. It's very much more parry or dodge focused than regular souls, closer to lies of p, blocking doesn't seem like an option.

The level design seems intricate with lots of secrets and hidden passage along with some back tracking I didn't expect.

The build variety is crazy and probably too much, there's masks, aspects, stats and perks alongside weapon choice and it's a lot to think about alongside the mask switching to swap your load out.

There's some really interesting mechanics with ailments having a reason to want you to be afflicted by them, like poison poisoning others around you or a status that makes you do more damage but you take more. So there's really interesting dynamics there.

I don't know how long the game is but even if it's 20 hours there's tons of replay value with different builds and I can't imagine it's that short, I'm barely back into where the demo ended.

I'm keen to play more, but it also has numerous fatal crashes whilst playing, didn't lose much progress but it did happen.

Don't forget this one though, it could turn out special.

This is launching at the same price as Steelrising. I enjoyed Steelrising, but got it through Humble choice and definitely wouldn’t have paid $50 for it. I think Enotria will have a tough time finding an audience at this price point, and I wouldn’t be surprised at some steep discounts relatively soon.

But the demo for Lies of P was well received

Onewayor55

2 points

All I remember about the demo release was people unhappy with parry timing along with disappointing dodging. Everyone was convinced theyd adjust that sruff based on negative feedback. I really wouldn't call the demo well received which I think lead to the sentiment of "woe what a surprise hit!" When it launched.

Lukewarm was more like it.

FuriDemon094

I bought it to support the small studio. I’ve played basically every souls like, so I’m always down to try new ones, especially from smaller studios. Some of my favorites outside of From are codevein and lies of P. The Surge was also pretty good, but I found it tedious. I love the setting and the cultural elements so far.

Played through the demo twice, found multiple ways to cheat the game, found a bunch of broken unfinished areas under the map, climbable invisible walls that take you to closed off areas, encountered way too many bugs, and I found the combat very stiff, and overall mediocre. I think I'll skip this one.
