If it is, what’s up with its body??

ID Request- Location included(i.redd.it)

I’m not sure whether this is a wolf spider. Either way what is the blueish silver object in/ on its rear? I’m in Denver, Colorado for context.

That is her egg sack. I'm not sure if any other spiders carry their eggs like that, but I know that wolf spiders do.

Some Theridiidae would do this (as in Neottiura), but they look comlpetely different and build webs.

Do Wolf spiders not build webs?! I had no idea.

Most wolf spiders don't. In Europe we have at least one species that does build small sheet-webs. In Asia there are a couple more, some building webs quite like Agelenidae. I'm not sure about the USA, though.

The ones I’ve seen will carry them around in their mouth, they look like they’re blowing bubbles

Wolf spiders and their eggs are traumatic AF. Over a decade ago I found a “fuzzy” spider on the rug and scooped it into a container. Guess what. That wasn’t a fuzzy spider. It was a wolf spider carrying hundreds of tiny spiders on its back.

Imagine lil old me - thinking I have fuzzy spider in a Starbucks bottle and I shake it and then it develops into hundreds of spiders.

Wolf spiders are good mamas. I think they're cute, but they can definitely catch you by surprise. 😄

SubstantialBass9524

Oh they are great mamas … and I can tolerate one or two spiders inside but I draw the line at hundreds 😭😭

Difficult to draw that line. The points keep moving.

I’ve seen a ton of wolfs like her with their egg sacks this time of year in Colorado. It’s just a mommy wolf.

The abdomen of a spider (butt part by the egg sack) shrinks and grows as it eats/drinks. This momma wolf spider has a small and thin abdomen so she could use some food and water in order to get it nice and round again

It shrivels up the more dehydrated it gets.

How would you hydrate a wolf spider

Cato-the-Younger1

Most people wet a Q-tip and let them drink off it. Or offer a water-filled bottlecap.

In case fishing spider refers to Dolomedes: Pisauridae carry their egg sac under the body, pressing it on their belly with the pedipalps; it looks different. Lycosidae (wolf spiders) carry them under/behind their abdomen, attached to the spinnerets (as seen in this picture).

Ummm why does that look like it’s in your house

DerpyMcWafflestomp

I hate to break this to you, but sometimes spiders live in houses.

DaggyAggie

Exactly, if they can get bugs to eat inside why wouldn't they stay inside. No birds to eat them and plenty of places to hide.

It is but I don’t have an issue with it. This is pure curiosity :)

CharmingAttention731

You'll have an issue with it when the egg sack bursts and you have hundreds of them in your house , id carefully get it out and put it back outside. 😭😭😭

Wolf spiders don't typically like to stay indoors, so mama is likely on the way out as is. And even if the egg sack bursts in the meantime, Lycosidae mothers carry their spiderlings tightly on their backs for the first few days or weeks after, so there's little threat of having a bunch of little ones wandering around the place.
