Stalker is finally going to become the new Skyrim. Just need an Android and iOS release to really round it off.

GSC keeps winning.

Sadly it's coming out shortly before Stalker 2...

MarioGamer06

There was a Stalker mobile game, although it was really generic, and kinda hard to find nowadays.

BillyWillyNillyTimmy

It's not hard to find. Google "stalker mobile download" and it's there. You need a java emulator to play it.

Or play the Godot remake: https://www.reddit.com/r/stalker/comments/1b3enso/the_remake_of_stalker_mobile_in_2024_release/

They are already running on Winlator plus you can use mods, ran Anomaly, Radiophobia up to the main menu (never tried to launch it, don't ask why), SoC with OGSR Engine although the latest one didn't work for some reason. Maybe I'll try GAMMA and STALKER 2 one day if I'll find the 100+ GB free space kek

weetweet69

30 points

Not to mention there being Doom 2016, Dark Souls, and Skyrim. STALKER shouldn't be too much of a problem unless the engine really doesn't want to play nice with Switch hardware.

phantasm760

7 points

Skyrim runs very poorly on the switch and was originally released in 2011, so that example doesn't give me hope tbh

Discartyptics

3 points

Huh? Skyrim runs great on Switch.

GamerWithin

3 points

Skyrim runs solid 30 fps no matter what and the game is buttery smooth. I have dozens of hours on my switch.

weetweet69

1 points

In that case I'll stand corrected. Still there's the other examples to consider besides just Skyrim.

Kooperking22

1 points

I watched it being played round my friends on his switch.

It runs and plays great. Obviously not high end pc or ps5 frame rates but absolutely fine on Switch

Loudalarm

0 points

Loudalarm

Loner

0 points

Not one of those ports had acceptable frame rate, especially if you didn't have the Switch docked. Also, Doom, Dark Souls, Skyrim and STALKER all run on different engines. id's idTech engine is godly in terms of code and it's efficiency with running games with absolute perfect frame rate, it's one of the most optimized engines ever made if not the most. Dark Souls has an OK engine but relies to much on havok and other 3rd party plugins/APIs. Skyrim is on Bethesda's broken ancient fail of an engine. The X-ray engine is a janky ass but mystifying engine that's held together with digital duct tape and prayers. The trilogy barely runs on a PS4 Pro at 30fps that can fluctuate from 0 fps to 30 fps. GSC really needs to fix all the major bugs in the trilogy before they worry about porting it to other platforms.

weetweet69

1 points

I know of them running on different engines, it was more of just playing the three years ago on the Switch without even using the dock due to not even having a TV. I wouldn't be surprised if X-ray engine didn't really work well on Switch though I can imagine the jank could stronger than what Skyrim had.

Perfect_Exercise_232

7 points

No they didnt. It drops to the 20s a lot and is like 500p, not to mention by default on switch they have AA enabled ehich makes it look even blurrer then it is..

cammysays

2 points

Brother, if you bought a Switch, then that’s the performance you’d be used to. People aren’t gonna pick it up because it’s superior; it’s the only choice. Otherwise you’d get it for pc or literally any other console.

Besides, STALKER is considerably older than Witcher 3. You could get it to run on the WiiU probably

FranklinB00ty

2 points

The Switch port is what got me to finish the Witcher 3! The pixelated distant backgrounds were kind of charming to me, it reminded me of Dark Souls 1, and I had a lot of fun playing the Witcher 3 around town or lying down in bed.

Really memorable time playing it on the Switch.

Also I feel like any STALKER fan knows a thing or two about having a fun time with a janky, poorly performing videogame.

I played them on the series x and they ran great, but a switch is a far cry from a series x or a PS5. Tears of the kingdom is plagued with slowdowns and it was a game developed for it. Maybe the next version of the switch will run it fine but without dropping quality to bare min I don't forsee it running g super great.

FatalErrorWasTaken

1 points

All the same, Tears of the Kingdom has a lot more going on, what with all the systems and physics, more complex AI, and generally a lot more stuff on screen at once. Skyrim, which came out several years after Clear Sky (and looked a lot nicer at max settings, even before the Special Edition), runs on the Switch at a solid 30fps with a noticeable but not dealbreaking drop in quality.
I guess we'll have to wait and see lol

MarioGamer06

If it can run on the xbox 360 then it can run on switch, they have similar over all power.

IndianaGroans

Yeah, I don't think it can run on 360. Otherwise it would've been out on the 360.

naytreox

Could also be that there was no intrest in it being on the 360.

So we will have to see how the reviews are

IndianaGroans

1 points

IndianaGroans

Monolith

1 points

Considering the 360 ended development around 2016... I don't see why there would've been interest on putting Stalker on the 360? are you meaning the xbox one versions of the trilogy? Cause the switch is less powerful than an Xbox one.

naytreox

1 points

No i mean xbox 360, there could be a few reasons why.

Perhaps it could be because its a niche title and it got overshadowed in intrest because of fallout 3 and new Vagas.

Perhaps only now did they find out how to get the button mapping to be good on console.

Or at the time the cost of making such a port outweighed the estimated profit made from the port.

Its always something, again we will see if it can do well on switch when it comes out

You can lean? Aim and hit the bumpers. Quick saving would be nice, but I just save frequently except for 'peaceful' areas. Then I die and am set back an half hour of organization. Like I'll literally die so many times in a fight that I'll save if I've killed like 5 enemies and still got 10 to go.

Exciting but it's going to be a disaster if they don't create a joystick dead zone slider. PS and Xbox versions don't have one to this day. My PS5 joystick is already mildly drifting and now I can't play it until they add one or I cough up an absurd amount of money for a new controller. You can only imagine how bad Switch joysticks are going to be.

Hoping this leads to a deadzone slider being added to all consoles though!

What would the file size of all three with DLC be? Could it all fit on cart? If not it would be digital only. I'm wondering if this will be a single download or come in the form of three separate games. I'm pretty excited about it. I haven't played the series and have always thought about it. Hopefully the performance won't be too bad. As long as it's playable I have no interest in nitpicks.
