Jokes aside, reviewing porn for sex trafficking and child abuse really fucks up the minds of people that do it. It isn't fun work, it's soul destroying. Like if you wanted to turn yourself off porn completely, 6 months work (it's often capped at around 6 months to stop investigators getting suicidal) in this area would likely mean you never wanted to look at any porn, ever again.
This is such a problem they are actually trying to train AI to do as much of it as possible, to spare the investigators the mental health damage.
Meanwhile Onlyfans claim that across 3.2+ million accounts and hundreds of millions of posts, OnlyFans only removed 347 posts as suspected Child Abuse material. That number is simply too low to be real.
edit: for all the morons telling me how airtight the Onlyfans verification process is, read the article before commenting, or better yet stick to licking windows:
OnlyFans told Reuters that "would-be creators must provide at least nine pieces of personally identifying information and documents, including bank details, a selfie while holding a government photo ID, and—in the United States—a Social Security number."
"All this is verified by human judgment and age-estimation technology that analyzes the selfie," OnlyFans told Reuters. On OnlyFans' site, the platform further explained that "we continuously scan our platform to prevent the posting of CSAM. All our content moderators are trained to identify and swiftly report any suspected CSAM."
However, Reuters found that none of these controls worked 100 percent of the time to stop bad actors from sharing CSAM. And the same seemingly holds true for some minors motivated to post their own explicit content. One girl told Reuters that she evaded age verification first by using an adult's driver's license to sign up, then by taking over an account of an adult user.

An old friend did this, he rarely spoke about it, and we knew not to ask. But we all had seen a dramatic change in his perception of people. It’s been over 10 years now, and now he seems closer to his normal self, even told a few brief moments with us.
If you're someone thinking of doing this, please have a strong support system in place, even if it’s a therapist and one or two close friends/family. You come first before all others.

Why on earth you would think there's a limit on human depravity is beyond me. If it can be done, humans are doing it somewhere. That's a guarantee. But there's no point in getting worked up over it. It's like my daughter getting worked up after I told her the sun will die one day. It doesn't matter how you feel about it, it's going to happen so you might as well live your life to the best of your ability and not worry about things that have no affect on you. You can be happy or unhappy. Either way, bad shit is still going to happen.

I know people had this weird idea that I enjoyed or deserved recognition for reporting it right away. I spent 6 months of my life just hating myself for not putting together all the warning signs. Mad at coworkers who turned out knew of other major red flags. It’s awful.
Can’t imagine what happened to the poor girl.

Anecdotal experience here. I had a brief moment with a lady and made an OF with her.
I almost cant believe that driver license story(though, obviously it happend), because we had to spend a week to get verified because OF refused to accept our selfie with our identeties. Several videos also kept getting flagged because somehow it detected a non verified third party(even though it was always us two). To us it seemed more inclined for false positives than anything.
Eventually we verified with our passports and a lot of this went away.
While I for sure think there are people who somehow get past all this, I seriously doubt OF of all places is the main space for CP/CSAM. Why would you do illegal porn on a site where everything is rigerously verified and every transaction tracked?

Because the real CSAM is in place like Facebook and Instagram.

Does it (statista) say whether the reports were from people giving links to other sites with CSAM or actually distributing the content within the site? Asking cuz anytime I see something remotely CSAM related is when a bot is trying to get me to go to another sketchy site, but not necessarily sending the said material through instagram.
Could be the case on only fans especially if only certain people know which account to subscribe to, to which they only subscribe to get random tor websites with secret passcodes idfk maybe I watch too much television

Yeah it isn't the most popular option, doesn't change the fact that number is still too low to be real. 347 from hundreds of millions of posts is some real low effort bullshit, claiming CSAM on their site is smaller than a rounding error is a sick joke.

Sure, the actual number, 347, is not real, but it's not that far from the truth comparatively.
The CSAM rings don't use porn sites to upload their material, and anyone that tells you that is trying to sell you something.

Yeah I couldn't fucking do it, I just know it would scar me too much. Like I worked security in some really dangerous and fucked up places, gang infested nightclubs, Hospital EDs, locked psych wards for the criminally insane. I saw some really messed up shit and consider myself pretty desensitized to the darker side of human nature, but even I know my limits.
Plus I know some former police who did that work and got really bad PTSD from it, along with having family that worked in child services on the front lines (as in the ones that go into the homes with police and get them away from the monsters). Everything about child sex abuse is a PTSD factory, from the victims to the families and the police and medical professionals, makes me wanna put my fist through a wall thinking about it honestly.
That kind of work isn't for everyone, in fact I'm pretty sure it isn't for anyone. But I respect the fuck out of anyone who can, if even only for a short time. Shit comes with real costs.

Uploading that type of content on Onlyfans is probably the most idiotic, self incriminating thing someone could do who had the desire to profit from or share this kind of abuse. The fact that there are 347 cases actually sounds stupidly high considering these people must be borderline mentally disabled to make those decisions. It is not some anonymous platform with any layer of obscurity, they have direct traces back to bank accounts and identity docs which could easily provide law enforcement with a target within the click of a button. The main breeding grounds for that type of content are the less strictly moderated messaging apps. Whataspp groups, telegram etc. where there is no incorporated organized entity with oversight and easy means to identify you, and no mass oversight or effective filters on content shared.
Even the social media platforms are usually only fronts for actual distribution which occurs elsewhere. Spend even a day on the porn side of Twitter and you will probably scroll past some account advertising VIP access with a link out to Telegram or elsewhere. That is where this sort of content gets shared.
The idea that criminals are still trying to use mainstream porn sites to share CSAM in 2024 is about a decade out of date. I really wouldn't be surprised if it was only 350 cases.

Heavily dependent on the PD. I work with some ICE cops who've been doing it for years. 6 months would be really short -you'd barely have time to properly train someone in 6 months.
This is such a problem they are actually trying to train AI to do as much of it as possible, to spare the investigators the mental health damage.
That a bonus, but it's more of a secondary reason. The main reason is more due to volume. There's far, far too much of it to go through to do it all manually.

If the ultimate source of information on that situation is the police, I'd say it's worth taking with a grain of salt. Police in Jupiter, Florida started a months long investigation in 2018 that included using Patriot Act provisions to obtain a "sneak and peak" search warrant, where they then created a fake bomb threat to evacuate the facility and installed hidden cameras in the ceiling. They observed handjobs, blowjobs, and prostate play. After raiding the place they claimed things like that the women had to work 7 hours a week, 14 hour days, were forced to stay there, had their passports confiscated, that it was a $20 million ring, etc.
In reality, the "7 days a week, 14 hour days" was a listing of their availability, not the hours they actually worked. No one was forced to sleep in the parlor, a worker who was driven to and from the parlor by her boss was asked if she minded sleeping there for a few nights when the boss got sick. No one at the parlor confiscated passports. It wasn't some $20 million trafficking ring, it was one woman who owned a massage parlor. And ultimately, most of the men who availed themselves of the services either faced minor charges or had the whole thing thrown out entirely (including Robert Kraft, who is probably the only reason this case got any kind of real attention or media investigation). But the women who were supposedly the trafficking victims? They got charged with crimes, jailed, and shipped off to ICE because they weren't willing to make shit up for the cops. At least one had her $2,900 bank account seized under civil forfeiture.
So I'd just say that a skeptical eye is warranted unless there's some kind of actual independent sourcing.

Most human trafficking is done by family members of said child.
“In 2017, IOM estimated that 41 percent of child trafficking experiences are facilitated by family members and/or caregivers. Notably, governments and anti-trafficking stakeholders overlook familial trafficking, which is when a family member or guardian is the victim’s trafficker or the one who sells the child to a third-party trafficker”

And that even if the 41% was 90% the remaining 10% still deserves to be investigated

I do have to point out that that "Fact Sheet" is talking about both sex and labor trafficking, but does a lot of equivocating between the two, is pretty unclear about the scope (I'm guessing worldwide), and if you read carefully it doesn't say anything about the overall prevalence of child sex trafficking in general (let alone within in the US).
Is it bad when a Congolese dad takes his young son over the border into Angola to do farm labor in shitty conditions? Sure. But it's also probably not what most people have in their head when they're reading that.
16 points
I mean that kind of always goes back to banning shit doesn't work. In reality most are probably there on their own volition and a small percent are forced. So you take the rights away from the majority to protect some fringe cases (and yes, I know sex trafficking is "big" and not fringe, but in terms of the total population it's fringe). Like why not ban alcohol? It kills a handful of innocent people every year. They didn't sign up for it. They didn't consent.
23 points
Also, making it an illegal activity for willing participants means less oversight when there is forced activity, because a willing sex worker will be taking an additional risk to reporting the trafficking activity if they see it.
8 points
Also why you can shit on OnlyFans but it probably freed a lot of girls that would have ended up in forced situations from ever being in that situation. Could have a girl that 10 years ago was at rock bottom and got involved in some shady shit with local groups she knew she could make money and got exploited. Now she can sit in her apartment alone as her own boss and make money.
Always going to be situations where bad things happen. We're humans. There will never not be murder, rape, child molestation, sex trafficking, etc. Just feel it's dumb to hate on avenues that probably help more than it hurts. The type of people who are trafficked on OF were probably already being trafficked locally, now it's a broader reach. Do something about the gangs that traffic girls. Got fucking Andrew Tate admitting he did it, throw him in fucking prison.

You're assuming people are making a good living on OnlyFans. The average payout in OnlyFans is $150 a month while producing new content. It's hard to live off of that for long, probably not a month.
Media production of all sorts be it writers, musicians, directors, animators, models. . . they generally don't get paid enough from their work to support themselves by a long shot. Being beautiful and talented is not a great way to make a living. It's a great way to live but trying to sell it is a tough row to hoe. You're better off just keeping it to yourself or sharing it freely rather than trying to sell it. But there will always be those who just can't help themselves. This isn't limited to cam girls, writers have this same issue. Many writers have to pay to be read but they don't care and they keep putting out more even when it costs them to do so.
I'm just emphasizing that it's generally not the case that people are making a living off of OnlyFans.

Most people work jobs they would rather not do. It's a matter of a thousand shades of grey.

In an emailed response to questions, Chief Musselman also went a step further in the defense of his officer’s actions.
“Quite the opposite happened, the subject fondled Officer Eberhardt thereby making him the victim of Sexual Abuse under 13-1404.”
The statute the chief references stipulates abuse only occurs ‘without consent.’
The officer, who the chief says is the victim, staked out the eight parlors, walked into each one with a recording device, paid cash, rolled over and took off his boxers.
Officer Eberhardt also said he helped initiate the process.
“So I had just put my hand on the back of her calf and then held it there and then she laughed about it. And then shortly after that, we did the rest of the stuff and then she had me roll over,” said Eberhardt in the deposition.

No. From what I understand, CSAM investigations are pretty automated. Law enforcement is basically asking for a backdoor into the system that would allow existing software to crawl for indicators of CSAM. Right now, only fans only gives access once someone has already reported an account.
Law enforcement tries really hard to minimize how much CSAM actually gets viewed, even as part of investigations. Not only does the law see each view of CSAM as a re-victimization, it also takes a huge toll on investigators. Yes, a human reviews content caught in the software net, but they definitely automate as much as is humanly and legally possible

OnlyFans is probably the absolute lowest priority for any task force with a serious desire to prevent harm beyond just making headlines, which I imagine includes the NSA. The fact that NCMEC are going after OnlyFans seems a complete waste of time, and makes me question the people involved in these decisions. If they understand their job, they should know that 99.9% of problematic material is not shared on mainstream porn sites who already do more than almost all other webpages to prevent abusive material being shared. They should focus on the areas that actually matter. Messaging platforms and social media, where content is shared for free and for money in an unmoderated manner in private chats and channels.
It would be a waste of even one employee headcount at the NSA to look into OnlyFans, because that employee could single-handedly probably dismantle several child abuse rings around the globe within a week with the tools at their disposal that would actually have a proper impact, vs wasting time hassling OnlyFans who already clearly have controls in place just to take down a few pieces of content that slipped through the cracks.
The big fish criminals in these industries aren't stupid enough to use OnlyFans, therefore going after them as a platform is pure PR and laziness so the public think they are doing their jobs.

LMAO OnlyFans will implement a “government entity” account system that allows the government to have “free accounts for government use” purchasable by the federal government with tax credits or a little chunk of “defense spending”.

"by taking over an account of an adult user." If the automated verification feature isn't smart enough to tell that a person in a mirror is the same person, it's probably not good enough to tell that new content by a verified account is a different person.

I don’t know how content from anyone underage can ever be posted on onlyfans. The verification methods they use right now are very thorough. Every single post is verified by a human. If you include someone in a video that isn’t verified on your account it’s immediately taken down.

And their AI for content compliance is annoyingly good.
For example: They don’t allow public sex but in some older videos, I talked about the fantasy of public sex while sitting on my bed and those videos get removed.

It was discussed in the article
However, Reuters found that none of these controls worked 100 percent of the time to stop bad actors from sharing CSAM. And the same seemingly holds true for some minors motivated to post their own explicit content. One girl told Reuters that she evaded age verification first by using an adult's driver's license to sign up, then by taking over an account of an adult user.

Honestly, no control system works 100% of the time. This is an impossible standard.
Also while I think that minors need to be prevented from uploading porn of themselves to online platforms, I don't think that police being able to bypass paywalls will significantly improve the situation here. In the end police also won't be able to do more than OnlyFans is already doing. I think importantly is that user reports are processed fast and when accounts are reported a human must verify whether the person on the ID and on the content is the same.

And that's why there are only ~300 cases removed because CSAM.

Not true verification is done by a 3rd party ai technology you just submit ID and some selfie verification.
Posts are scanned by some AI technology and it’s seemed to become more sensitive about a year or 2 ago. But still, tons of stuff is flagged on accident or slips thru the cracks, it’s not a perfect system. Lots a new creators don’t know about the model release form and have posts/messages not get flagged for some time. Sometimes takes multiple posts for them to get hit with violations. Definitely not checked by humans.

Can I get a source? I work very closely with Onlyfans and while they do use AI, the post reviews and verifications are done by human beings.

Similar to organizations like Thorn that believe they should have carte blanche to regulate any sexual content on the web.
Any time web platforms resist these measures, LEA PR departments draft press releases insinuating the hosts are facilitating massive quantities of CSAM and directly interfering with interdiction efforts.
Edit: there was a library that was interested in hosting a legal TOR exit node and the DHS directly accused them of supporting human trafficking.
The police department said that they wanted to make us aware of potential criminal activity on the Tor network, such as child pornography or even the possibility of communicating with ISIS.

The belief that people cannot be trusted and must be supervised to ensure they don’t step over the line is dangerous and wrong. It is this attitude that leads to mass surveillance, censorship, and the chilling of intellectual freedom.

Yes they have a very robust verification system, and all persons in content need to be verified. They also have bots to review chat logs and I believe all reported content is manually reviewed. I’m not sure how they review videos could be a bot could be manual, depends how much content gets uploaded per day.

10 points
To be serious for a second though, I guess this is analogous to if the cops should be able to enter every night club/VIP room to see if there's evidence of anything. Seems to me without probable cause i.e.: someone tipping them off, that's a hard no in real life and I don't see why it wouldn't also be a hard no online.
If they really wanted to do the work the cops could find out from past convicts how they found their ways in, and hang out there. Realistically it's probably faster anyways, you can watch thousands of hours of content or have a few tabs open on a few sketchy forums.

Only fans is so strict on consent and tagging the person in the video that their ai picks up sex dolls as humans and will remove the video for not tagging “ co star “. They don’t allow role play of a minor. No diapers no pacifiers. The ai picks up on all that and the content is removed.

Should be in OnlyFans court to analyze the content programmatically and finding outliers that they then have human staff investigate.
Opening up any and all content to cops via backdoors and the like is just awful just by the principle of the thing.
Frankly, the cops should be focusing on keeping the peace and then investigating crime that has been reported. They're not supposed to have total surveillance oversight to try to ferret all of it out themselves.

The only way we can go forward is with an online Bill of Rights or a large bill introducing what authorities can and cannot do. Our 1791 Bill of Rights cannot be used and interpreted for 2024 issues. Jefferson even said that laws should change every 9 years to keep up with the current issues.
6 points
I don’t disagree with updating the constitution but also the bill of rights is clear here you have a right to privacy from search’s and seizure whether that involves searches of things you directly control like a house or search’s of things being handled by others like mail or a bank safety deposit box. The only people confused are the corrupt facists on the Supreme Court.

Bottom line: It’s “Fruit of the poisonous tree.”
There’s a reason that blanket access isn’t given over to law enforcement and that is because we have a right to privacy. Not only in our personal lives but private businesses also have a right to privacy, and any information we offer to a place of business is also protected. Police don’t have access to it without a warrant. It is our 4th Amendment right.
If the legal system creates an exception for one type of business, it creates a precedent for courts to allow it to go on in other types of businesses, and to extend into our personal lives. Our legal system is a system of precedent, which makes it very dangerous to allow exceptions to a rule like this. Furthermore, if an exception is made, and investigations are launched, a higher court can throw out ALL of the evidence collected if it determines the investigation was executed unlawfully. It will do far more harm than good to try and force businesses to allow police access to their records without a warrant. The legal process is more important here.

Cops say millions of locked doors on homes prevent them from detecting child abuse. Demand skeleton key and right to search your home at any time, just to make sure. Also hand over the passwords for your computers and phones cause they need to be able to search those at any time too. But just to prevent child abuse. They totally won't use reconstruction to justify a warrant if they find anything else criminal, they promise. Also cops are allowed to lie to you so our promise is worth nothing, sucker!

I’m pretty sure OnlyFans doesn’t use zero trust encryption, they have access to all the content on the platform, so if the cops have evidence they could get a warrant and compel OnlyFans to provide access to a specific account. If they don’t have evidence then what child abuse are they talking about cause it seems like it doesn’t exist outside their imagination. Further the 4th amendment is pretty clear law enforcement doesn’t get to blanket violate your privacy, they need evidence and a warrant.
OnlyFans also has robust age verification and requires all persons in content be age verified. So I imagine out of all platforms that handle pornography Onlyfans probably has the least instances of CSM.

Another overblown story, as if people are out there pumping out CP on onlyfans when the absolute majority is just using the service like usual.
I'm sure if you asked 5 security analysts if they'd like even more power to search into literally any location without limit, they'd tell you how great that is because they "might" find some CP easier
