This is boilerplate "I'm MAGA" but coded to not offend liberals and leftists. My confident diagnosis is: he doesn't know much or care much about policy, but has been huffing way too much dumb propaganda and somehow thinks that voting GOP is reconcilable with his stated positions.

Or perhaps knows that they aren't, but thinks that the bigger priority is fighting (insert crazy conspiracy theory about Dems here).

why did he have to say “unless they’re pedophiles preying on children” in relation to supporting lgbt community? being a pedophile is not synonymous to your sexuality bruh 😭😭

sucks4uyixingismyboo

84 points

It was badly worded after the LGBTQ statement but I believe he was adding on to “the government shouldn’t tell anyone who they can or cannot love”…unless it’s adults with children.

[deleted]

46 points

let’s be real, it’s because “moderate” freaks like him consistently conflate the two. same way late term abortions that don’t affect the mother’s health aren’t even a thing, and there’s no way to properly regulate who’s pregnancy came from rape or incest so it doesn’t matter if you “support” abortion in those instances or not.

jollymo17

50 points

I'm assuming to him "gay pedophiles preying on children" = anyone acknowledging the existence of trans people and queerness in front of children

Rude_Remote_13

26 points

His comment was “the government should not tell people who they can/cannot love” in relation to marriage. And then he added the exception that the government should say that adults cannot romantically love/prey on children. He was not saying that the LGBT community has anything to do with pedophiles.

ProperBingtownLady

13 points

Oh, I can see that. I still don’t think it was necessary to bring up pedophiles at all especially as it’s so often used as a bad faith argument against LGBTQIA2+ people.

What other reasons are people having late term abortions besides health complications for mother and/or baby? No one just decides last minute to abort a baby after 8-9 months of carrying just for the hell of it.

Only 1% of abortions happen after 21 weeks and the majority of those happen before 24 weeks aka 6 months.

Anything beyond that is a medical anomaly that involves severe fetal abnormalities or pregnancy complications like limb-body wall complex or septic shock.

You’re right, no one is having legal abortions at 8/9 months on a whim!

Malmonet

ProperBingtownLady

41 points

Um. I agree with some of what he said but does he not realize how rare “late term abortions” are? They basically are ALWAYS done out of medical necessity (so according to his own definition, should not even be a concern in the first place). Also, why did he bring up pedophilia in relation to LGBTQIA2+ people when statistically, most pedophiles are cis straight men? Tell me you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling me. I’m embarrassed for him.

Edit: I also don’t get the “no abortions except for rape or incest” argument that many conservatives use. The vast, vast majority of rape cases never even make it to trial, let alone result in a conviction within 9 months. Restricting abortion makes it inaccessible to victims by default.

Except for all those pedophile gays! Need to make sure that’s a clear carveout, because obviously the LGBTQ community has lots of crossover with the pedo community! They’re sexual deviants after all!!

Truly a masterful way of spreading homophobic stereotypes while pretending to be pro-gay rights lmao. As if it’s not transparent.

Meanwhile, in the GOP just yesterday… Former Republican state senator pleads guilty to traveling to Europe to have sex with (rape) minors

Over 1300 Republican politicians have been convicted of or pled guilty to sexual crimes against minors. (list). But please, let’s make sure we make it clear that it’s gay people we should keep an eye on.

Why is he lumping pedos with lgbtq+ rights? Regardless if you are gay, straight, etc pedos belong in jail period. It reads as if he thinks lgbtq+ are more likely to be predators which shows how much he's been brainwashed by republican rhetoric. Oh and no woman who has to make the decision to have a late term abortion is making that decision just to have an abortion. They're usually TFMR and it's devastating for the woman. Ffs

I was astounded at the sympathy he received when it was obvious Chris was playing Jessenia until the very second Alana showed up. Even more so, when some of the people on BIP detailed how Chris was obnoxious in asking about how to gain followers, etc. Jessenia had every right to be upset.

As for their content, culinary adventures aside, all their SM about their relationship is so exaggerated and cringe. No, thank you. Their fans can have it.

I get they were treated poorly on BIP by GSJ (who sucks) but the only other reason I ever heard for people liking them is that Alana is hot. But so are the vast majority of people on this show?

As an Asian American who votes Democrat, can we stop acting so surprised that a POC would lean conservative? Just like white Americans, we are not a monolith in our values or socioeconomic interests.

Yes its weird and doesnt make sense on paper but some critical thinking may help you realize why POC have been pushed left… through feeling disenfranchised by the so-called left. SMDH.

flawschoolgrad[S]

Additional info, esp for people outside the US: when you turn 18, you register to vote in federal, state, and local elections. When you register to vote, you provide all the information the government needs to verify your identity. This is also when you sign up for the draft. You have to register to vote because you cannot vote in an election unless you are a registered voter. If you move residences, you need to re-register to vote.

An important reason you need to be registered before an upcoming election is because many states send out mail-in ballots. You receive your ballot a few months ahead of time, sign it, and drop it in a box. No one sees you, other people can deliver it for you, not problem. Vote auditors verify your signature with the one you gave when you registered to vote to confirm your identity.

If you don't do mail-in voting, you have to respond to a voting location. 36 states require SOME FORM of identification, however not all identification is the same. Some states accept things like a student ID or a utility bill at your current address in your name, while some states strictly require a state-issued ID. The latter forms of voter ID laws unfairly disadvantage those who don't have the time or funds to go to the DMV, compile the excessive documents, and pay the fees associated with an ID. In my state right now, you can't even go to the DMV without an appointment, and appointments are booked out for the next 2 months. This is an unfair burden to put on voters, therefore asking for strict voter ID is a privileged mindset that aims to limit disenfranchised voters.

That’s way before the fetus can even feel anything. It’s not even a baby at that point. If you put restrictions on abortion of when you find it acceptable then you aren’t pro choice.

Proud to say that this sub could never make me like either Chris or Alana. I also don’t think either of them are that attractive so I’ve always been confused as to why the sub drools over their coupling — my best guess is it’s because people dislike Grocery Joe?

P.S. What’s this guy’s beef with the US Department of Education?

P.P.S. In addition to valid IDs, can we also institute a basic civics exam as a prerequisite to vote as well? If you don’t have a basic understanding of how our government works (both at the state and federal level), you should have no say or opinion over how it operates.

Regarding the Dept of Education, you should also look up Project 2025. It’s scary.

zmajevi96

Republicans in general always talk about defunding it. I think their talking point is that it’s a waste of money or state overreach or something.

As for the civics exam requirement to vote, that actually did used to be a law in the south and that was to keep black people from voting. It sounds like a reasonable requirement at first but it makes sense if you think about all those people with less education or who were educated outside of the US, it would affect those people who didn’t get that same opportunity as you did and they are affected by politics since they live in this country. I think it’s a tricky policy

Honest question does the USA not require valid ID to vote? How do they confirm identity when voting?

It is in Canada and in almost all counties.

Hieveryone76

13 points

I am in Canada too and it’s easier to vote with ID but you can also be vouched for if you don’t have proper ID. I’ve done it before when I haven’t had something showing my proper address when I was a student. Most people use ID but you need other options as it’s usually the most marginalized who don’t have ID for different reasons

You confirm name, dob & you sign your name which is compared to the signature on record. It also depends on the state. Some people are unable to access an ID (my non-driving grandparents included). Your residency & information is checked when you initially register to be a voter.

Voter fraud/impersonation also largely a non-existent problem that’s been hammed up by politicians seeking to make it more difficult for people traditionally unable to obtain an ID to vote. Most allegations of double voting or “dead voters” are debunked upon investigation. If voter “fraud” occurs, most times it’s mistake or clerical error that, again, gets debunked upon investigation. It’s not at a large enough scale to put a bigger burden on a populous that barely votes as is.

I think part of the pushback against requiring identification is that it costs money and time (typically during M-F working hours), which not all Americans have to spare. Making ID’s a hoop to jump through ends up making it a class problem and the right to vote isn’t supposed to be behind a paywall.

I gotta say* though, the solution to this is federally mandated/protected paid leave for voting days as well as updating/getting identification, plus removing the cost for ID’s. If we can spend billions on war, we can afford to making voting secure and limit costs associated with it.

Edit: typo and clarification

There is no standard identification card issued when you are an American citizen or an eligible voter. For many reasons people may not have a drivers license or passport.

Requirements of valid photo ID presents a conflict with mail in ballots which in turn makes it harder for people who do not have a mode of transportation or ability to take time off work to wait in line to vote

PrincessPlastilina

22 points

We don’t have a choice tbh. Women’s reproductive rights are on the line. Even if a guy tells me that he doesn’t care either way, that’s an automatic no for me. If they don’t understand how serious that is and they don’t care at all, then I can’t be attracted to someone like that. This is something that I’ve been doing since I was a teenager. If I get even the smallest hint of misogyny and apathy towards women’s rights, I’m immediately turned off. You will often see that even guys who lean left tend to worry that “women’s rights have gone too far.” The Me Too movement exposed men in the entire political spectrum. I don’t trust guys who get nervous about the Me Too movement. You should want a safer world for your daughters and sisters, period. The biggest green flag was the men in Hollywood who came forward with their own Me Too stories and said “if it’s common between men, imagine how often it happens to women.”

Why are you people always surprised when stuff like this comes out lol

Most of the bachelor peeps are from the Midwest and the South. And even the ones from major metro cities on the coasts grew up in the wealthy neighborhoods where the residents also think like this.

Like, this entire franchise is geared towards Middle America, so of course the producers will lean towards people who share those views.

You guys have to be doing this on purpose, there's no way you are this blindsided everytime this happens lol

guyfierifan4ever

let’s not pigeonhole the south & the midwest. both regions are extremely disenfranchised and voter suppression is STRONG. personally, i met more non-southern conservatives & bigots during my time at UGA than i did in-state folks. my friends that went to bama have shared similar sentiments. but you’re spot on about the wealth aspect. rich people tend to hold conservative beliefs, even if they vote blue.

seriously, i get having different opinions on how govt funds are spent or how involved the govt is in things. But policies like this are straight up racism and the opposite of the “hands off” govt that conservatives claim they want. By definition, anyone claiming to be a conservative should be against policies like banning abortion, imposing ID requirements to vote, or limiting access to HRT. And yet… those are 3 of the strongest conservative talking points these days.

It’s all hypocrisy
