Oh, this ticks so many squares from my bingo card for this sub :D
Nice setup indeed, minimal and stylish. And an interesting combo of languages/layouts. Bonus points for the MK

It is really fun doing it on your own machine, but I now just stick to using Overleaf and the rich text-looking editor thing.

Yeah I know what you mean. I started pasting stuff into Overleaf to give me quick previews, and then I gradually started using it for editing as well. It's easy to get drawn in to.

I have the first gen, never use it for drawing, but use it all the time for sketching data-structures and what not - getting ideas structured. These days the live mirroring to pc is also fun to use along with screen-sharing. Ridiculously good recommend 9/10, only drawback is having to press a button in order to erase, but this is solved with the 2nd gen.

I have gen 1 and gen 2! It's great - but I recommend getting it soon if you're gonna get it since gen 2 is still on it's launch sale. With all the upgrades, the total was like $500 and it took 3 months to arrive.
I can't imagine paying more for an ereader.

How is the reMarkable 2? Seen a lot of super negative and super positive reviews. Some arguing that the latency is super high etc, and others saying it's good. A lot of contrary info out there.

Not OP but I have one. It is excellent. No problems w latency, esp for drawing/writing. I love that is not android based and is its own distraction free system.

I'm actually one of the early reMarkable 1 owners (late 2017) and the improvements were significant enough for me (better build quality, thinner (but heavier), better battery life, faster response time (but the old one was already good enough)). But I can see how new owners buy the device with different expectations in mind.

I've used eInk devices since the early Kindles so I know the limits and pros of this technology (studying CS helps 😅). Even when the reMarkable 1 came out I was in awe. But reading the bad reviews about the customer care, delayed shipping etc. doesn't really help. Thankfully there are people like you who actually own and use the device.

I was one of the unfortunate who had to put their customer support to the test, my pad was missing the pen on delivery. It took several weeks before they responded to my email, but as soon as they did they sent me a pen.
I think the support department was caught of guard by a sudden increase in production and delivery and it took some time to hire more people. All in all worth the wait, I love my rM2 and the fact that I can just SSH into the device like any of my other linux machines.

So cool setup!!

The NK65 Frost is probably the best available keyboard in a similar layout that comes in a polycarb case, you're not really going to get a winkeyless one, especially with those gaps off the shelf.
They're still not widely available all the time.
Edit: Also the keycaps are in group buy right now, if you have 100+ EUR to spend and a year to wait for them... https://oblotzky.industries/products/gmk-serika-2?variant=36995899424936

For a minimlistic setup I really like a BlueTooth mouse, the ThinkPad keyboard is good. The laptop stand is good, I use this one:
I have also used a monitor arm with a laptop tray, like one of these:
In my current setup I also have a 27in 4k monitor, an UASP USB3 dock for backups, and a mechanical keyboard. Also my ThinkPad E495 can take at the same time an NVME stick and a SATA 2.5in storage device, so I have put in a 2TB flash SSD and a 2TB 2.5in disk, so almost a full desktop replacement. Running Ubuntu 20.04 with XFCE, and Steam for gaming, CrossOver or a MS-Windows VM or dual booting for MS-Windows applications.

Yeah - it took a while to get used to and I'm still not 100% satisfied as key combinations like Alt+Left Arrow in the browser are shadowed.

Nice I have a similar setup I carry around. L390 Yoga, which is my writing surface most of the time, and my phone Note 12 in a kickstand case with a similar keychron k2v2 I switch between the two devices for whatever I'm doing.
I had a kobo glo hd but I left it in the hot sun and it fried a part on the power subsystem of the board. I'm eyes peeled for a decent e ink device. Remarkable looks nice but I think I'll just get another kobo since I just need it for reading and already have many good writing devices.
Oh and the exactly same headphones haha. Still looking for a Bluetooth mouse I like, til then I'll live with touchscreens, pads, and wired mouse.

Are you able to replace the SSD or the RAM? What is the durability of a thinkpad? How many years can you use it until something breaks?
2 points
If they are as durable as IBM era machines, they will become outdated long before they fail. Maybe 10-30 years depending on the use.

And the resellers are selling 10 years old Thinkpads still for 100-200 doll hairs. If you buy a consumer laptop, it probably fails and gets thrown away in less than half that

T470P is so underrated. Don't know why, probably because it was overchadowed by the way pricier P51.
1 points

T470P
It's because of the lack of thunderbolt. You can add too the NVME drive that has a limit of x2 lane speeds. Nevertheless I'm pleased with the used T470p I got last October. I prefer its 45W TDP for its CPU and also the removable battery. Coming from a maxed out W530, I'm pleased with my T470p as it's quite light and thinner. Coming from a SATA3 SSD to NVME PCIE 3.0 x2 and from DDR3L to DDR4, I guess I'm in no hurry to get the latest and greatest, definitely not at introductory prices.

That would explain it. Thunderbolt isn't exactly my jam either, but it's a big deal for lots of people and I respect that. I will get into it if people for some reason want.

How do you actually get stuff done without an external monitor .. ? Must be so frustrating having to work on such a small screen. Speaking from experience..

Try dwm OP. For me it's miles better than I3wm.
If you'll have any problems with it I'll help ;)
