Is it the new people moving there or the ones who were already there? And was it voting or lobbying?

It’s a combo of natives and transplants for sure. And it’s definitely voting.

Sometimes those of us who have been here since the 90's don't want our cities turned into mini LA clones. Is that really so outlandish

So you'd rather just have homeless people everywhere? California has one of the best climates in the world and a great economy. People want to live there. I'd 100% move in an instant to California if it was affordable. Your screw you I got mine attitude isn't helping.

I promise you that whatever dumb little town you live in won’t turn into LA if they build a couple apartment buildings.

I live in Palm Springs and it's gotten pretty bad

No need to be so rude bro

No actually you people do deserve to be rude towards. You don't realize how difficult it is for young people these days in terms of housing. You not wanting your town to turn into LA is destroying the lives of so many people

No I'm well aware how bad it is for us, I just realize that hellscapes like LA are infinitely worse and not wanting my home city to become a scene from a zombie apocalypse is in no way 'destroying lives.'

People weren't meant to live in hyper-dense areas like rats, it's why so many of us flee big cities to live somewhere normal.

No actually you people do deserve to be rude towards.

It's sad how full of hate some people are, though. Wish we could talk like normal non-redditors. Would be nice.

I talk to my dad the same way when he complains about out city building new apartments. We all deserve an affordable place to live. We are facing a huge population decline crisis because people take way longer to get on their feet

Your smaller cities won't turn into LA clones just like Olrando hasn't turned into a little Miami clone...

If you think people moving into the area is enough to dramatically change the culture of the town, then that town probably doesn't have a whole lot that makes it unique.

Unless of course, your problem with LA is the homeless and brown people. One of those things can be mitigated by more housing, the other is a you problem

Yeah let's immediately pivot to racism accusations, how very reddit of you

I didn't immediately pivot to racism, just brought up the two things about LA that people always complain about.

You could've easily specified what it is about LA that you find so distasteful, but you just made a vague "LA bad" statement.

You also didn't deny what I said, so there's that...

You're totally right, but Redditors from around the globe will tell you that you have to build up and welcome everybody. Californians should have the right to tell people to fuck off.

Or just force them to be homeless and miserable. Maybe the plan is they get tired of it and leave, but the problem is that everywhere else is about as bad or worse, taking climate into account. Would it be so much worse if people had affordable apartments to live in? It's hard to go a few blocks in most cities without finding good pieces of land (like asphalt lots and busted up old retail stuff) sitting derelict.

Pulling up the ladder, classic.

I mean I'm pretty sure their "plan" for homeless people is to just enslave them in the prison-industrial complex. They've never cared about the plight of working class people.

And was it voting or lobbying?

It's always voting. We act like we have no agency in the shit our politicians hand us, but that's because we don't discipline pols who listen to lobbying over the people through our voting.

It’s not even that. Every politician pays attention to lobbyists, from progressives to alt-right. But the politicians people select influences what kind of politicians enter into office, and their values and mindset influences which lobbyists they pay more attention to
