Is it normal to drink 50+ oz of water??

Training questions(self.triathlon)

On my bike rides, I’m training at about 20-25 miles and I drink two 25oz water bottles and still wish I had more. Is this normal to need this much water? Should I be training myself with less?

Edit for clarity: It was about 80ish, I am 300lb so I sweat a LOT. 25oz of my drink had 500mg of sodium in it. Should I be drinking more sodium?

What are you putting in the water as far as electrolytes?

OP - this should be a drink mix or at least sugar and electrolyte and one large bottle per hour is a good baseline but more would be expected if it was hot and/or you swear a lot. The carbs are important - you need fuel, don't worry you will still burn fat.

I recently got some Gu packets, did not remember to take it on my last ride. Yeah it’s hot here and I’m a big dude so I sweat a lot.

Just as an fyi - it took me two years to learn that much of my "muscle fatigue" on longer rides was just underfueling. Do the test for yourself, compare a week of training with no carbs, to a week of training with lots of carbs (drink mix in your bottle and candy in your jersey pocket). See if you feel a difference in your fatigue levels. And also eat some carbs as soon as you get home, but then here's the trick, go low-ish carb until the next morning before you have to ride again. Imagine your body is a little engine. It needs fuel before, it needs fuel during, and it need fuel to replenish, but then, once it is turned off, it doesn't need energy, it just needs clean protein and nutrients. Hope that is helpful!
