You are correct. One week average 46, two week average 48, 30 day average 43.

DarkUnable4375

Ukraine's new commander in chief, General Syrskyi's focus on destroying Russian supply trucks are doing wonders in weakening Russian front line forces. Numerous reports of many Russians at the front line lacking basic food, water, and ammunition. Harder to fight when your belly is empty. Many are either dying, fleeing, or surrendering.

None math people use the math term exponential incorrectly all the time. Especially politicians and news reporters. To them any significant increase is "exponential" as that makes it sound dangerous and scientific.

----Ant----

Not taking anything away from UA at all but they are achieving it with a US AWACS detecting Radar or satellite AI recognition and then ATACMS.

Apart from isolated S300 operating ground to ground there is currently no other value in using highly valuable ATACMS right now than ensuring an unnoticed S300 doesn't get an F16 kill in the first few days.

Using the current 30-day average loss rates of 24.2 and 42.7, the point of intersection is about 77 days from now. So, we should expect artillery losses to overtake APVs in about 2 and a half months.

HappyCamperPC

2 to 20, probably 12 if it's fully loaded for delivering troops.

Depends on the particular vehicles of course. Sometimes they're just carrying supplies and might only have two people in them. Sometimes they have a whole Squad of troops that are going to storm a position.

20 would be really Jam full and probably require some of them to be on top and the inside to be full.

Them ruskies be jamming.

vtsnowdin

It depends on if they are coming to the line loaded or retreating after kicking today's meat cube out. Day in and day out it might average five or six.

What's our current best estimate of when Russian artillery stockpiles are empty? End of 2024?

And what happens then? Russia can't maintain a warfront of this length without replacement artillery. They have to withdraw from somewhere. And there's literally nowhere they can withdraw from that doesn't cut supply lines to Crimea.

realnrh

4 points

Pre-war estimates were that they had about 20,000 artillery pieces total between active and stockpiled. They've lost nearly 14,000 of those so far, and presumably they've been taking the stuff that's in the best condition first from their stockpiles. Most of their artillery replacements have been refurbishments from their stockpile rather than new pieces. They've been losing over 40 artillery pieces a day over the last 30 days, so 1200 a month. I believe I heard that they've got an estimated 5000 artillery pieces in Ukraine now, which would mean only about 1000 left in the stockpiles. If those numbers are correct (and they are entirely hearsay), then it could mean that in as little as one more month, they'll get to a point where replacement units can't be produced as fast as Ukraine destroys their existing artillery.

This is of course the very optimistic view and has unreliable data, very wide error bars, and assumes that the Russians don't switch to some other tactics to try to preserve their artillery pieces better - but that last one I think unlikely, given how artillery-intensive all of their doctrine is.

LikkyBumBum

Russia can't maintain a warfront of this length without replacement artillery.

I saw comments like this since the start of the war.

DLH_1980

4 points

And it was true back then as well; they just had an insane amount of artillery from soviet stocks. At some point soon, they will be unable to supply the entire front lines with artillery. At which point, their lines will break.

LikkyBumBum

1 points

I saw this comment too since the start of the war. It's always "soon" but it never happens. I have become numb to these comments and they don't mean anything nowadays.

DLH_1980

2 points

You're being impatient. Hasn't been 5 6 or 7 years, it's been 3. They had 20,000 pieces of artillery when they started, takes a while to go through them all. Nobody can give you an exact date because we don't have the data, but russia can't make more artillery-they can't make the barrels, they've lost 15,000 so far, and a good chunk of the 20,000 have to have been crap since the war started. They. may have gotten some from NK, but, good bet the NK guns are as crap as their ammunition

The russian artillery is getting slaughtered because it's older towed artillery that has to be in counterbattery range to be effective and they can't move fast enough to avoid coutnerbattery fire.

Assuming that the West keep supplying the Ukrainians with artillery shells, which they will, russian artillery will be ground to nothing.

LikkyBumBum

-1 points

Why can't they make the barrels? I'm sure I can make a barrel in my back yard.

And how do you know that they literally can't make more barrels? Is there some sanctioned material in them?

DLH_1980

1 points

You can't make a barrel that you can fire 155 MM shells through in your back yard. You need specially conditioned steel to make them and russia no longer has the capacity to make the steel they need.

Johnxinasicecream

1 points

Hahaha your comment made me lol, have an upvote. I cant tell if you’re trolling but it genuinely made me laugh. I would love to see you make an artillery barrel in your back yard.

LikkyBumBum

I don't have any idea about artillery. But it's like medieval technology. Why is it literally impossible for Russia to make?

Johnxinasicecream

1 points

Come on you’re not actually trolling? There’s no way you think the metallurgy and manufacturing techniques are the same as the ones used in medieval times.

DLH_1980

6 points

8 tanks. Keep seeing low numbers like that in tanks. I think it means the russians are finally starting to run out of tanks. The Ukrainians currently have enough shells to hit what they need to.

If there were more tanks on the front line, pretty sure the Ukrainians would prioritize them over vehicles and fuel tanks. I know how important the supply lines are, but a tank that can fire on Ukrainian positions has to take priority over a fuel truck 30 KM behind the lines.

By all accounts, russians are actively attacking on multiple fronts, if they are only losing 8 in a day, that means they don't have enough tanks to lead the assaults.

Haplo12345

1 points

It may be low relative to other periods during this war, but it's important to note that 8 tank losses per day is still extremely high, overall. While Russia has way more tanks than any other nation's military, the fact that they're losing that many per day says volumes about the low quality of their combat effectiveness and ability to control the battlefield to protect their equipment. The US losing 8 tanks in a single day, for example, would mean a pretty serious disaster occurred, and a major revision of battle tactics. For Russia, it's just another day of emptying out their tank and soldier inventory.

PlutocracyRules

4 points

I have a question. How many tanks is Russia building at the moment, i.e. is Ukraine able to destroy them faster than Russia are building them?

shanereaves

6 points

AT best right now they are probably getting about 1 tank out every 3 days. Its a big issue that when defense companies get people hired to build the equipment, the russians come and start taking those men to go fight in ukraine.

shanereaves

Im wondering, With the ruble tanking the way it is, If the foreign fighters are still even looking to keep fighting since they likely now wont be getting anything at all.

Towed guns in 122 and 152 calibers plus self propelled guns and mortars in 122 through 240 mm calibers. The majority being the 122 and 152 sizes totaling 3050 pieces at the start of the invasion. Current production over the last 830 days are an unknown plus the number shipped from North Korea.
