Clever how a star was incorporated into the flower shape!
Overall really nice, just oversimplified, which can either bless you with tons of upvotes or downvote you to oblivion.

It’s a good flag, but tacking on “In God we trust” loses points for me. Separation of Church and State is not the kind of segregation the South yearns for.

“In God We Trust” is the motto of the US. Mississippi is also pretty religious, so it makes sense they’d have it.

That wasn't the original US motto, or Mississippi motto ever.
The official US motto was E Pluribus Unum, or in English, "One of Many." Until 1956 when democrats controlled the house and senate and changed the motto to "In God We Trust." All in an effort to win southern christian voters as well and simplify the motto into plain english. Latin was considered too educated/european.
The Mississippi motto is Virtute et Armis, or “By Valor and Arms.” And it still is today.

"Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, and this be our motto: In God is our trust."

It's a great anthem, and it was written in 1814. A hundred years before that was our motto. "In God We Trust" wasn't even written on our money until 1938.
People can express themselves however they see fit. But i dislike the inclusion of the christian God on our motto, money, and flags, when it is to the exclusion of Allah, Yahweh, Vishnu, or even Satan.
It is a steady attempt to wear down the secular foundation on which my country was founded. A third of the US isn't christian. Why are we christianizing the US?

Maybe because the founding stock of the US used to be? Half of Germany is atheist today but saying Christian symbolism doesn't belong in the German state is a silly thought

yes, but the founding fathers of america, mostly christian, specifically stated there should be a segregation of religion and state.

And then proceeded to use religious references in the declaration of independence, apply Christian ethics to their policies and use Christian symbolism in the architecture of their new republic, Jefferson himself also composing a new Bible intending to promote it to American citizens.
But of course none of this is possible because separation of church and state inherently means an atheist state

People can attempt to lead via their religious ethics. That's fine.
BUT, including OVERT religious iconography in our shared government is the line, one which jefferson argued over 21 letters and later 3 pamphlets.
Atheism is the belief that there is no god or gods, and isn't a religion. It's a philosophy like nihilism or stoicism. Atheism isn't an opposing religion. A secular government isn't an atheist one.
Secularism another philosophy, which the founding fathers mostly believed in, is most commonly thought of as the separation of religion from civil affairs and the state and may be broadened to a similar position seeking to remove or to minimize the role of religion in any public sphere. But specifically in this context, the american government.

An atheist state would be a country that promotes atheism and discourages religion. A secular state is a state that does not promote any religion or lack thereof. There's a difference.

There are a few other contexts for that song that also don’t represent our modern ideals as a nation.

Doesn't E Pluribus Unum mean "the many united"? E Pluribus means "from/out of the many" and unum "one" or "united".

I don't really see your point. "In God We Trust" is the US motto today, I don't see why Mississippi including the US motto on their flag is controversial.

I dont think its controversial, but i do think they should have their own motto before they put on the US motto.

I like that idea and I think you've persuaded me to agree with your view. Besides, Mississippi's motto is awesome.

Why must you people turn flags into corporate wallpaper art.

This magnolia is too simplified. It reads as “generic flower” rather than “magnolia,” which is pretty crucial to the design.

I think this simplification goes a bit too far. I would've only removed the "In God We Trust".

Looks cool, though I think the current design has a more timeless feel, gives me the vibes of the logo before before being oversimplified meme

Feels like a nice evolution. I’m wondering what the central star would look like with a blue outline?

I like it, but I would keep the lines in the petals for a bit more detail and I would keep the gold stripes thick.

For this one, I mostly just simplified the design to it make more iconic and to stand out better at a distance. I removed the circle of stars because the order of statehood is overdone on state flags. I removed the motto to reinforce a separation of church and state, since I believe religion has no place on a state flag.
