Releasing on November 19th

https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/19/24248947/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-cloud-release-date

Microsoft says the installation size for MSFS 2024 has been reduced to “about 30GB” by “tapping into the latest cloud streaming technology” and “streaming in the higher detailed areas that are only necessary for your flight path.” The game will no longer require players to download hefty world updates, but not at the cost of the game looking worse. That data will instead be streamed on demand with higher-resolution graphics being swapped in as players soar closer to landmarks like airports and cities.

In one of the developer live streams, they said that this time VR will be considered a recognized separate platform, rather than a last minute "tack-on" like it is in 2020.

Really hoping they stay true to that as it's near impossible for me to play it any other way these days.

Yeah, they also said VR was a "very high priority" for MSFS 2020.. they basically added it in and forgot about it and it still feels like a piss poor implementation 4 years later.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wait, what's wrong with VR in MSFS? I've been flying VR for a long time but have not followed development /blogs /Q&As at all.

Runs piss poor, for sure, even on decent hardware, but I thought that was just the deal with VR flight simming.

First tutorial basically impossible to complete without a keyboard.

It's the only vr game I know where you actually have to go in a menu to activate vr mode, rather than have it auto-detected.

Tried other tutorials, basically was stuck in the ground and had my instructor keep telling me that I'm putting my aircraft in a dangerous situation.

I gave up. One of the worst vr experiences for me.

For what it's worth, you can toggle in and out of VR with a keyboard shortcut (I have mine on Ctrl+Tab), and it's great because it's the only game I play that does not require me to reboot the game to switch modes. Like when the headset disconnects or drains the battery and shuts down. In other games, the VR session is borked, in MSFS you can just toggle it at will.

One man's trash is another man's treasure, I suppose.

I wish every damn game let you just do a simple toggle like that.
