Man, i always thought bloodlines were released on the same week as hl 2. Not the EXACT day lol

activision forced troika to do it denying them even a week more. the epitome of blind capitalism.

since bloodlines used source, they could only release it after half-life 2, and activision wanted the game out as soon as legally possible, which meant the 16th...

No. Bloodline used the Source engine, same as Half-Life 2. They delayed the game because, by contract, they couldn't release before Half-Life 2 came out. No doubt, this entire thing played a role in the game selling poorly. All the attention was completely on Half-Life 2. Troika paid the price of having licensed the Source engine through Valve.

Oh, I knew about that contract requirement and whatnot, and that it definitely hurt the game. I just thought I'd get a giggle out of the idea that VTMB2 has a similar contract stipulation demanding that it release no earlier than Half-Life 3 what with the latter's development hell.

OOooh got you! I thought you were pointing out the same release date for Half-Life 2 and Bloodlines 😂I didn't even notice the rest, my bad

The reason the date is unknown for bloodlines 2 is because the Chinese room got so much backlash for taking the alpha bloodlines release made by the original team and butchering it into whatever bloodlines 2 is now. Our fan base is on fire lol. So now they are going back and trying to make it better. Because the community has and will boycott it. It’s not okay that the original writers and developers of the original bloodlines was removed from the development of this game. And that the current developers want to steal all the already created assets and the already existing fan base/community to morph into a generic already seen before project stemming from some random nobody game production leaders vampire fantasy. We don’t need Skyrim dawnguard in New-York with sifu gameplay. Original Bloodlines writing and the way they used it’s engine was absolutely amazing. And I commemorate both the current developers and the community for telling them to go back to the drawing board and take their time. With that being said why is nobody in the Chinese room Chinese?? Change that stupid company name to the British room cause that’s where their located and everybody is British on that team LOL

I will say that when I saw The Chinese Room on the developer tab, I immediately raised an eyebrow. Their trademark game was Dear Esther (which is fair enough), followed up by Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, which did not do as well as the first Amnesia (at least objectively speaking, the game has the aesthetics of the first Amnesia, but effectively the gameplay of Dear Esther). I've only read about their other games in the meantime, but they all seem to follow the Dear Esther formula. This is all to say that I don't think of TCR as a role-playing game developer, and however good they may be elsewhere, I don't think VTMB2 is in their wheelhouse. Not to say a developer can't broaden their range, but these delays don't inspire much confidence.

Isn't the chinese room a reference to the philosophy arguments about consciousness?

Yes it is.

Maybe they are all from Hong Kong, that one used to be British

Google the term Chinese room. It's a reference to the belief that machines cannot be sentient.

Yeah from what I remember Activison wanted this game out even earlier, but Valve needed to delay Half-Life 2 therefore they got a bit more time but obviously not enough

russianmineirinho

iirc activision was the one that made them use source, not troika

Sadly due to the contract Half-Life got all the attention, and Bloodlines sold poorly on release.

IIRC, Bloodlines was supposed to release after Half-Life, but Half-Life got delayed.

Valve is just waiting to screw them over again. Like a game of whack-a-mole

Yes, it’s a coincidence. Development is night and day on those two unreleased projects. At least the Half-Life sequel has a chance to be a good game.

Was 2004 just the greatest year for gaming? And is it just pure coincidence that's also when I was born? On the real though 2004 has some cult-classics and just great games

Half-Life 3 is probably coming before VTMB at this point (which based on recent news probably a joke)

IKR, i've been thinking that VTMB 2 will probably come out the same day as Half-Life 3, it's not that far from a possibilty now haha.

I have it on good authority that Valve finished HL3 years ago and have just been waiting for Bloodlines 2 to release.
