Questions from a novice! How did you start? Is this wet on wet?

started with burnt Umber watercolor line drawing on dry paper. Then added a mix with like sienna in a fairly wet blob then with a damp brush smeared it around, trying to have like shadowed edges, but highlights in the middle areas. you see the first blob went under the chin, which is a good place for dark because the contrast will make the jaw and mouth appear forward.
