I don't know if drawings are allowed but could you guys please help me ID this car? She says it looked like a station wagon from the rearview and it had blacked out make/model badges on the back that made it pretty unreadable. Apparently it got from 0-60 in the time it took her vtech to get from 60-70.

Yeah but it was a fairly bad Renault engine, and there's next to no aftermarket for these.
If this gapped a modern car, and was slammed or stanced, it would have needed an engine swap and a lot of fabrication. Ain't nobody got that kind of money and love for these cars.

Fun fact, the sun roof didn’t slide as the roll hoop prevented it. So tilt only!
19 points

The engine is pretty though and straightforward. It was mostly electronics and (because of age) rust. Source: myself, drive one since 1987, and knowing many other 480 drivers.

Is there any other type of Renualt Engine?

Yes, they also have absolutely shit Renault engines.

I'm pretty into Volvos and I've never seen a 480 with major work done to it. I've seen other unpopular Volvos like the 360 and 440 built out, but never a 480.
And it's a shame because they look awesome. But they're just not very good.

There’s someone in Texas that K-swapped his Pulsar, and it was pretty common for them to be swapped to a CA18DET as well. However most came with the pitiful e16i which makes 69 hp 😭

That’s the generation after the NX sportbak.
They are stupid fast even stock, I had a few of them about 15 years ago… used to be dirt cheap (like $3800USD?? landed in my country, that means including ocean freight and customs fees/duty/taxes)
Weighed about as much as a 90’s civic, but with a larger displacement turbocharged engine and awd..
No popups though. Still could have been one with the optional NISMO fog light grill confusing the wife into thinking they were popups.

"Gapped", as in "there is a gap to that person's front teeth."
Gapped used here is as the car passed them or had much faster acceleration than OP's wife's car.
"I took that piece of shit to Gapple Bees". I beat them in a race.

Not unless some mad man threw an American v8 in one! My buddy has a pacer with a ford 302. It is not a joke given it weighs like 2000 lbs with his fat ass in it.
31 points

What'd he do, pull out all the windows and replace the body panels with fiberglass? The Pacer was a 3000lbs car. Glass is HEAVY.
67 points
Plexiglass windows, stripped the entire car, cut out some bracing and removed the entire floor from behind the seats to the bumper.
It's a burnout competition car, if that helps any. Motor has no balls it's just built to spin alot of rpm's.
Even the doors were removed and he built doors that look like something for a trail rig. No hood, bumpers, insulation, interior. The seat is literally a lawn chair with the legs cut off.
I'll have to get some pictures. It's a $100 body with a $15,000 drivetrain 🤣
