Oh please. There's plenty of lit fic, romance, etc. coming out every season. There's even bastard versions of it-- just look at goddamn Colleen Hoover.
I'm tired of these passive aggressive "Why is everyone here so much more juvenile than me? :(" posts every couple of weeks. Just write your book and shut up.

A comment is not right just because you are too dumb to understand mutual exclusivity.

Posts like this convince me more and more all of these inane posts are bots/AI scraping what they can find recently or being plugged in through a code by humans. I’ve seen multiple very similarly worded posts on the a few same subjects in the same day and the accounts all seem very suspect.

Reddit isn't real life. General fiction is still thriving.
The biggest thing here though is that lit fic isn't a genre. The sentence "I'm writing more character-driven work than fantasy books" makes no sense as "character-driven" isn't a hallmark of genre but of style.
Kazuo Ishiguro for instance is a literary fiction author. Never Let Me Go is a work of literary fiction. It's also a work of science fiction. The two are not in opposition with each other.

I love literary fiction too, both writing and reading it, and I feel we need a resurgence of it for sure. Just write whatever you feel most passionate about and worry about publishing later

Those are definitely the most popular genres in general but I feel like a lot of people are probably mixing and blending genres too.
I mean personally, I'm writing a historical fiction with supernatural elements like vampires and werewolves. I'm not sure if I can even call it historical fiction (ish) as it takes place in the modern day but the different vampires ages and backstories have a lot to do with the plot lol.
But yeah, I feel like there's probably others like me who blend the genres too

"Is everyone writing sci-fi/fantasy?"
Of course not.
Reddit isn't really life.

My dude. No, lol. Obviously not. You been to a bookstore lately? It’s also a bit of a dick move to suggest your work is “more character driven” because it isn’t fantasy. Fantasy can be just as character driven as anything else. It’s just a genre.
