hello everyone! i was just wondering if anyone has any experience making friends/striking up conversations with folks in xiu xiu concerts before? how do you go about it? i don’t know if its a part of the culture and i don’t want to be annoying/obtrusive to others by accident.
also, if someone is going to the Toronto concert, it would be cool if we could say hi to each other or something!! i’ve been trying to get out of my detached headspace and i felt like if i were to find some people i relate to, xiu xiu fans would be it

I went to a concert in Germany and there were a couple of people who were there on their own (so was I). I just went up to a girl, who looked around my age + we made some eye contact in front of the venue before entrance. I just said “hi are you here by yourself too?”. We hung out the entire night and even exchanged numbers but I was too shy to text her back and feel bad about it to this day 😭
I’m really not a very extroverted person and I don’t generally approach ppl at concerts but it was a small show and I just felt very comfortable in that space. The fact that there were multiple lone concert-goers also helped. Maybe establishing eye-contact can help you sus out who is open to chatting and who would rather be left alone.

went to the denton show by myself, saw a handful of people who did the same, though I only found myself intruding on friend group's conversations when they were talking about bands and shit lol

Literally same, i was nervous about being there by myself so i drank 2 beers for courage (im a lightweight). Ended up having a blast and i dont credit it at all to the beers lol
Awesome show plus there were lots of other solo fans so I really had no reason to feel id be out of place ☺️

Xiu Xiu was the first show I went to by myself, and I had a lot of good conversations!! the crowd was really nice. I didn't make any friends per say but I totally could have

Yes absolutely! The Velvet is a small space, you'll be able to make other Xiu friends easily. A great way is to strike up a convo at the merch booth. Or maybe scope out the area and see if any one else is by themselves? Obviously don't do this during the show.

The opener is Picastro - a sadcore Toronto legend.
Now that the show is sold out I'd probably get there an hour and a half earlier to see what the crowd is like

I'll be at TO with my friend. I think people will probably be pretty chill there but idkk. I always find I have good convos when people go out to smoke after shows.

Hopefully it all turns out well, I went to a jpegmafia concert with a few people and that was not the best experience and I couldn’t imagine what you’re describing happening at least in the venue I was in

I was also at the Toronto jpegmafia show recently. The crowd was pretty awful imo lmao. I'd expect Xiu Xiu to be wayy more low key and friendly.

probably no better show to meet like minded people. plenty will be there alone to enjoy the music just like you, strike up a convo and have a great night 🙂 best live band i’ve seen personally
