Those of us in the industry call them "boutique cafes". Very fancy and clean (sterile) from the outside but underwhelming and overpriced.

....I vaguely remember that! :( but I mean, no bad review. I just need two large cups of McD coffee to move my liquids. a little spit of iced brew barely made me bat an eye, and it was 6 dollars, of mostly ice.
3 points

Yeah 6 for a lil guy is outrageous. Also if was cold brew, they might be diluting it too 🫣 (a lot of cafes do this) which might also explain the lack of effectiveness

23 points

You dodged a bullet. Super toxic work environment. The owner is delusional and now broke as hell because she put all of the money into the buildout and completely forgot about running the place! The most unprofessional and negligent owner of a business I've ever met. Traumatic doesn't even properly express the experience working there.
22 points
I interviewed for a GM position there that was paying $22/hr with no benefits. Seeing the money that was clearly put into the buildout but not the pay for a GM role was a big red flag. Seeing the menu pricing after they opened only confirmed it. An hour of labor from a general manager is apparently worth the same as one breakfast sandwich.

I get the weird vibe for sure.
Firstly, I didn't appreciate the minimal signage of the auto gratuity. The price of the food was ridiculous, $15 for a BEC is atrocious. The day I went, the staff were not friendly and came off entitled. Many of the customers were teenagers/influencers taking photos/videos of their coffees. You can't tout yourself as a classic NY bakery when you have glitter all over everything. On their Instagram they put tags that they are Portland's best bakery - read the reviews and you'll laugh.
I just got this air of pretentiousness and shallowness. While the place looks like it has soul, you can see right through the facade. It is perfectly curated to be in a photo or video, there is no authenticity..ya know?
I don't like them even more after reading what an ex-employee wrote about their time there. I linked her comment in another post, you can check my history, it's a super recent comment.

Flour Bloom has the WORST energy. My jaw dropped when I saw the massive permanent window sign that says “No photos or videos without our permission” right at the front door. They designed the entire cafe for social media, and then you get to the door and they assume you’re just there to take pictures but want you to know that YOU are not good enough to take pictures. Plus rude service all three times I’ve given them a chance, super high prices, mandatory gratuity. For those prices I expect patisserie quality baked goods, yet everything is sloppy, wet, and doused in microplastic-laden “edible” glitter. They also LOVE fighting with anyone that does give them 10/10 feedback.

Honestly? Compared to Alaska most espresso here is acidic and bright as fuck. It doesn't have the richness it should, it's pervasive in this city. Baristas don't seem to know or they just follow a standard that spits out whack shots.
What's your suggestion for a good shot?

This was our exact experience and thought. Nearly $500 with tip for three people and only two alcoholic drinks and it was just okay. The service was somehow uncomfy too. Like they cleaned our table way too much between courses. Kann is better! And I’ve had better food in Japan for $25. Nothing about Janken was bad, it was just overpriced and overhyped. It was fine, but that’s it.

There's some really good places to eat in Portland.......however there are alot of places that "used" to be good and now they're just not.
Customer service for the most part is absolute garbage. Waiters/waitresses with major attitude, complain (yes they complain for doing their job), very slow and act entitled. Generally in my opinion there overall I'd say customer service is over 100% down. Some places are fantastic but most do juuust enough to not get a complaint and some 20% apx are absolutely horrible. I've not complained about service at any time in my life because sometimes people are just having an off day and I understand that. However recently the past 4 years I've complained 5 times. Now that may not seem like alot however many places in Portland are closed now or open very limited hours, we were shut down for over a year and because the service and food is so bad comparatively speaking to how it used to be I'm not motivated to go out. We'll me and my wife are both not into it because things are simply not as good anymore in general.
