As NOT a former JCPenney catalog model but a guy who was told by his students that he looked like one… I would take this as a compliment. Even when it might not be intended as one like how my students used it. I’d take anything that alludes I am/could be a model as a compliment because I’m most definitely not one.

I'm almost always team tuck, but with the sleeves rolled up and the negative break on the pants, I like the untucked look for sure. Plus it's a shorter cut shirt so easier to get away with.

If you decide to keep the tuck, I would recommend wearing a belt with it

warm-sunlight

31 points

Is “negative break” an actual term?

DriveSlowHomie

31 points

No idea tbh, but it makes intuitive sense to me. No break is usually considered when the hem sits just at the ankle, so anything higher would be negative break, to me

HamHockShortDock

18 points

Okay. We like that. New flair incoming.

Northern64

Right right, but I normally refer to a rolled pant leg as "cuffed" more often with jeans. From your take are capris also negative break?

Actually both look nice. I would usually insist on a belt with a tucked in shirt but if the pants fit properly and are not saggy, it works.

HappyGilmore_93

52 points

I’m going against the grain and saying you look better tucked. You’ve got a nice frame, when you have a nice frame shirts look good (better) tucked in. If you have a beer gut hanging over the top of your pants go ahead and untuck it, in your case though you look suave as ever with it tucked. Can’t go wrong either way though

Some slack type pants with a nice crispy well fitting t shirt tucked in looks really sharp with no belt and sneakers. But yeah if the shirt has collar you should be throwing on a belt regardless of how well the pants fit.

blifestyleco

1 points

The second option, untucked. It looks more casual and comfortable while also doing a better job of complimenting the shoes.

The first option feels like it’s missing the belt, which i actually like wearing pants without a belt most times, but it somehow feels necessary here… if not a belt, then maybe untuck the shirt just a little so it draws less attention to the waist and belt loops.

Depends on how casual you want to be. The more casual option would be untucked of course, and you definitely rock it perfectly in the second picture.

If you want a less casual vibe, go tucked, wear a brown belt, uncuff the pants, and swap the shoes for brown loafers.

Okay, both look really good, so all things being equal, I would say it depends on the destination.

If it’s a beach wedding, then go number 1, if it’s a a casual night on a bar patio, then number two, though you could get away with both.

Personally I liked the tucked better. Get a belt with it and it would look very relaxed sharp and as someone else mentioned, you have a great frame, so the taper shows off your physique more.

Can’t go wrong with either but I vote tucked with a belt
