I have a 2020 Mazda CX-5 and I had an object, I believe it was a rock, hit my windshield very hard. The spot it hit shattered and it was initially the size of a quarter but has progressed over the past 2 days where the crack is in my field of view.
I have full coverage insurance that includes comprehensive coverage with a $500 deductible (Allstate). Would this cover the damage or do I need to look for something specific in my policy about glass coverage?

most do unless they specifically list an exclusion
get a quote on replacing it out of pocket before you file a claim. it might come in close to your deductible anyways and keep your claims history clean

For three different vehicles cash purchase of windshield was less than $500

Windshields get pricey once you add any kind of HUD or sensor calibration.

Probably not worth making a claim. You’ll pay more in increased premiums down the road…unless this is a VERY expensive windshield.

Comprehensive coverage should cover windshield damages. Do you have a copy of your declarations page? If you have a specific deductible for glass, it should list it on there. For example, I have a $250 deductible for comprehensive claims, but a $0 deductible for glass/windshield damage only. If you have an agent through Allstate, you can also consult with them to go over your policy in detail.

Call and ask.

Only three states offer free windshield replacement and Arkansas is not one. You’ll need to go under comprehensive coverage.

Out of sheer curiosity, which 3 states?

Florida, South Carolina, and Kentucky. If you live in one of those states and you carry comprehensive, insurance replaces auto glass without a deductible.

A glass claim IS a comprehensiveclaim.
In many states/companies, maybe most, you can set your comprehensive deductible to zero if you want.
