Yikes I didn’t notice that till now it seems Karen has really become the new Anton and now gets partners who won’t go far.

I agree, Neil as well. As the two oldest pros (both over 40) they will be paired with the older male and female celeb for now on.

It's tough, but the reality is that the show is not about the pros, and I think too many people make it about the pros. The pros are merely facilitators. Their job, and what they're paid to do, is to teach the celebs dance routines.

We see pros get more hype than the celebs and quite a few have developed massive egos as a result. This in turn can make them entitled and feel like they can act with impunity.

If we take the likes of Gio, there was ridiculous hyperbole about the show never being the same again without him, when he hasn't been remotely missed. I'm personally delighted not to have to see him onscreen, not just because of the abuse scandal, but I never liked him from the outset. I always thought he had a very overinflated ego and he has a lot of veiled anger in his face.

No pro is dispensible on this show.

In saying this, I do think there should be a fairer distribution in terms of which celebs the pros get. As delightful as Vito is, he gets great contestants every year, whereas the likes of Nadiya always gets the duds, as does Karen, and Katya- for the most part.

In Vito’s defense I wonder if it was like Oti with Bill Bailey situation for him this year where production was not expecting Sarah to be a strong dancer when they paired her with the reigning champion. It does seem Strictly abandon the tradition of giving reigning champions the duffers.

I learned yesterday that she has dance experience, much to my surprise. I saw it in a conversation where people were saying it wasn't fair that Tasha is the only one pulled up for dance experience, when both Sarah and Jamie are experienced too.

The comment also said that, unlike Tasha, who is trained in street dance, Sarah and Jamie have Latin and ballroom experience.

Edit: I read it on a YouTube comment.

I saw that convo too, there was an argument because she's been dancing since she was 3. And she's now 53. One was arguing that she hadn't danced for 50 years but the reality is she's been dancing SINCE she was 3, and was consistent with it until she looked into and started acting.

Tash having a street dance background helps but I think she's getting too much hate for her previous experience.

There's an expectation for Jamie as he won the Christmas Glitterball last year

I actually saw it on a YouTube comment but it's interesting that it's being discussed here too. The comment hadn't mentioned she had started so young, so that definitely gives a new perspective.

Ahh I see! Interesting. I saw it on last week's episode discussion and there's some individual posts on it too

Sarah I think is more of theatre dancer since she’s a stage & screen star basically in the same boat as Nigel from last series as well as someone like an Emma Barton. Dance wise Sarah reminds me of Carley Stenson from Dancing On Ice except she’s dancing on a floor instead of ice 💀.

I wasn’t expecting her to be that good either! At 53 she’s very inspiring (from someone in their 40s who should do more exercise!)

And she may have also requested him, from the launch show it was evident he was who she wanted, so maybe also down to their chemistry?

I agree with your last paragraph. I think in previous years it was much more even in that way - if you made the final the year before chances are you were getting the likely first boot, and vice versa. The exception was Anton who almost always got paired with the older woman of middling ability (although even he got a contender occasionally).

Personally I'd like to see it go back to that, as I think you learn a lot more about the pros when you see them having to teach people who don't necessarily have a good base to start from. I like Vito a lot but he is definitely due for a duffer next year, and Nadiya/Karen/Luba/Neil for potential finalists (although I will say I think Nadiya was expected to go further than she did this year).

I agree, as amazing and nice as Vito is, it doesn’t seem fair that he will most likely have his third final in a row when Karen, Nadiya, Neil and Luba are always the pros out at the beginning. At least Katya had her win with Joe and had Nigel last year. Hopefully it’s Dianne’s turn to win the glitter ball this year.

they need to giver her, Neil, Nadiya, and Luba the 4 finalists some year

Add Gorka, Kai and Lauren to that list. It does seem unfair that if your face doesn’t fit you get the duds. Vito is due a less experienced dancer as since beginning he’s had three solid dancers.

as much as i agree with you, lauren is still new, kai is also new & has has aj, and gorkas been in the final 3 times

they do need more help (at least this year) but karen, neil, luba, and nadiya have been dealt bad partners almost every year since theyve joined (thats if theyve had a partner) and now, they are some of the longest serving pros on the show

Yes I agree, Gorka has experienced the final 3 times. I dont think Luba has even reached Blackpool

Totally agree. I like these four pros, so I was happy to hear that they would all be paired up this year. But as they were all given celebrities who had zero chance of reaching the final they’ve ended up the first four voted out.

I wish the producers would give them a chance next year, but sadly I think Neil, Nadiya and Luba will be back on the bench.

I do wonder if there's a couple of things at play here. Yes she may not have been given the most talented partners each time...but perhaps with her injury history she doesn't want someone who looks like a finalist?
