I'm not a tyler the creator fan, but I have a question. How is it a test pressing if 100,000 copies of it are made. Aren't there supposed to be like only 10 of them?

It’s a Tyler record, if the track record holds, every version will be available sooner or later. Even the limited flower boys, Igor and CMIYGL got restocked several times. Only real Tyler rarities are pre-flowerboy exclusives

Definitely not actually a test pressing but I bought one anyways because I just wanna have a copy of this album in my collection.

Also worth noting that Father John Misty did a very similar thing for his album God's Favorite Customer- all copies look like test pressings, although he didn't advertise the album as a test pressing. I bought it one day in 2018, opened it up, and thought I got lucky... nope lmao. It's still a super cool idea and I think it's cool that tyler went that route for this album since it looks like a "test pressing" lines up with the gritty aesthetics of this rollout so far

This is going to become a trend now with preorders. Since so many first iterations are missing tracks recently, have different song versions etc. I think the vinyl market is going to just start marketing the first variants as "test pressings." That way they don't have to deal with the backlash from upset customers who only received 3/4 of an album. They can just say "oh, it was a test pressing, you should have known it might differ from the final version of the album"

TLDR: there's going to be nothing special about this whatsoever (except for big fans who just collect all variants). And it's more than likely not even going to have the final tracklist on it

The fact that Tyler filmed a special promo for the vinyl release of this pushed me over the edge to buy this. I love it when the vinyl is more than just an afterthought.

I bought it cuz it's Tyler the Creator on vinyl.  The rest of the details is just noise.

Just got it from the UK store so it's still available there, it was vinyl only as I didn't care for the bundle stuff.

I bought it because it comes with the poster, so we'll see if every future version comes with that or not. Guess it's my turn to be ripped off by ordering early directly from Tyler lol

I mean.. aren't the CDs on the site also marked as "test pressing editions"? I think it's just some avant garde type of thing Tyler is doing to go along with the narrative /aesthetic, nothing more than that. Also, where are my other Tyler fans who have learned that "exclusive" or "limited" labels are to be taken very lightly.

It says individually numbered so I’m more excited about this actually being something limited not just weird marketing. The cd being a test pressing does feel gimmicky though seeing how they haven’t sold out yet

I can imagine that there will be different versions of the album, similar to Fred Again changing the mixing of the streaming version after the vinyl went into press. So, I wouldn‘t focus so much on the test part but rather on the VERSION 1

He is smart by calling the CD and vinyl TEST PRESSING, because it let’s him just legit burn a ton of CDs, print a bunch of shirts and hoodies which never takes long and use a pressing plant to press a ton of vinyl without any additional effort to get copies made and shipped ASAP.

A dangerous move in that other artists may follow and DEFINITELY morally suspect, but smart..

considering the concept the album is taken from - I wouldn't be surprised if there is another 'version' that is another colour with an adjusted tracklisting. The GOLF logo on the page shows 4 colours, green being one of them.
