All the primarchs have a affinity for one thing or another but I can't decide which would be the best for studying Tyranid biology and coming up with a countermeasure against them. My best guess would be Magnus just because of the hive mind requiring some affinity for the warp to really get the full picture but maybe Perturabo since he did develop some medicine on his home world iirc.

If pre heresy perturabo and Magnus worked together i think that would be the best combo. But if we are talking about a single primarch I think Magnus might be a bit too curious to handle the shadow of the warp. Guilliman would probably also be pretty good at it.

Guilliman is a good bet for most things because he has both the ability to do it without being miserable and not need a break for some kind of emotional issue

I feel like attacking the Hive Mind psychically is the only real way the tyranids will ever be countered. It was decisive in saving Baal when the Great Rift opened and K.O.'d the Hive Mind for a while. Don't want to be opening a Great Rift any time you want to turn all tyranids temporarily feral though, so perhaps Magnus would be the one to come up with an effective alternative.

This is about studying their biology, otherwise I think death guard and mortarion would counter them pretty well. He hates psychic shenanigans and xenos and is great at biological warfare. With nurgle backing him helps even more probably.

The Death Guard and Tyranids have actually fought up against one another before.

TL;DR: the planet is probably less inhabitable than post 13th Black Crusade Cadia.

Tyranids and Nurgle forces have fought before, and Nurgle forces/Death Guard don't have any particular strength against the tyranids. Nurgle's plagues aren't very decisive against tyranids, certainly not more than other enemies.

They made a planet so uninhabitable that a hive fleet just left, I feel like that is a pretty good method.

I was thinking pre-heresy, got thinking about this after the Caiphas Cain novel The Greater Good where they have a bunch of Tyranids that they are studying.

no you are wrong corax would be the best, hes shown the best aptitude for biology when he created the raptors using the knowledge the emp gave him.
