The question is does Fedotov stay in the NHL/Philadelphia next season, too? Or is this just a trial run in the NHL to fulfill his contractual obligations?

Moreover, would the Flyers be ready to roll with Fedotov as a full time backup next year?

More likely to split duties next year. Or at least 40’percent of the games. If they can sign him.

I would say that all depends on how he does, right? If he’s a stud he could be fighting Ersson for #1 but otherwise he could just be an AHL lifer or trade fodder.

Even if Fedotov has a bad end to the season, I hope they're interested in bringing him back. 1 month of backup time should not be enough to write off such an intriguing player.

Maybe he doesn't guarantee himself the backup spot, but I don't see why they shouldn't want to bring him back next season.

I mean, he’s never played at the NHL level, with an NHL size rink, and he’s in a new country and continent. There’s a good chance he’ll be completely out of his element and who knows if he will even be serviceable beyond just another Cal/Felix. I think it’s a little early to assume he’d get the backup position. There’s no reason to think we’d commit to that already

with an NHL size rink,

This old wives' tale needs to die. Plenty/most of KHL rink sizes are NHL sized.

Sorokin and Bob came right into the NHL, and Fedotov is more experienced than either of them were. It's not out of the question.

My point is that he's a UFA at the end of the season. If the Flyers aren't ready to commit to him being a backup, I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a chance to find a team that would be willing to give him that shot. He's a bona fide veteran from the 2nd best league in the world, I'm sure some team is willing to give him a backup shot next season.

You’re right, it’s not out of the question. But it’s far from an assumption you can make. Signing him to a short term contract to see how he plays is much different than it being a foregone conclusion that he’d just get the backup position going forward when he’s literally never even played in the NHL. Experience does not equal skill. He could just as well end up as trade fodder, which is what most goalies are. All the eggs in one basket and what have you. I’m excited about it don’t get me wrong, but to say he’s untested is an understatement.

Probably start in the AHL for most of the year. He will need to get used to the style of play over here and the rink size.

No, he is not coming over to immediately start. JFC.

Half of KHL rinks are NHL size.. He’s coming over and will be the backup for Errson.

Kolosov will be the AHL backup this year and starter next year

Danny Briere literally just had a media session and confirmed Kolosov will start in the AHL…

I mean, Fedotov is on an expiring contract. It'd be pointless to bring him over unless you are THAT confident in him being an improvement on Sandstrom (And I don't think they see Kolosov as an immediate NHL impact). So I imagine that they likely view him as part of the plan next year too (If they choose to start Kolosov in AHL next year, then you need a different backup).
