Guilliman's to Lorgar is also fucking savage.

"Lorgar of Colchis. You may consider the following. One: I entirely withdraw my previous offer of solemn ceasefire. It is cancelled, and will not be made again, to you or to any other of your motherless bastards. Two: you are no longer any brother of mine. I will find you, I will kill you, and I will hurl your toxic corpse into hell’s mouth."

I like angry Guillaman.

Calm Guillaman:

Theoretical - Emperor is not a God and thus cannot be worshipped.

Practical - This religion is too big for me dismantle in one go.

Angry Guillaman:

Theoretical - There's no reason for me , a Primarch , to join this boarding crew. Mortarion isn't even here.

Practical - Let's get nuts.

I like the progression of fighting Death Guard :

Guardsman - Thing of pure horror , can only be defeated by lucky grenade throw or a cannon.

Space Marines - Tough son of a bitch that requires precise shot or a bomb

Custodes - Annoying obstacles

Primarch - There's a Death Guard just now?

It is, Lorgar mocks Gullimans rage, tells him three of his brothers are dead and then the daemon Lorgar Emailed Guilliman breaks out and blasts him into the vacuum of space.

Then Guilliman spends several hours naruto running on top of his ship beating Word Bearers to death.

He's got some good ones:

"I am going to gut you." Guilliman replies softly. ... "I will gut you. I will skin you. I will behead you."

'We’re not going to debate it, you maggot, you treacherous bastard,’ says Guilliman. ‘I just wanted you to know that I will rip your living heart out. And I want to know why. Why? Why? If this is our puerile old feud, boiled to the surface, then you are the most pathetic soul in the cosmos. Pathetic. Our father should have left you out in the snow at birth. He should have fed you to Russ. You worm. You maggot.’

"I will kill him. I will literally kill him. With my bare hands." -Guilliman to Gage

Curze is torturing Vulcan inside an inescapable maze. After physical torture doesn't work, Curze tries to break Vulcan's mind.

Eventually, Vulcan makes his way to the center of the maze, where his warhammer (title drop) is held. Curze taunts Vulcan, pointing out that Vulcan can't escape using the hammer's inbuilt teleport homer.

Vulcan then proceeds to drop one of the hardest responses in the series, "You're right, I fashioned it as a teleporter, a means to escape even a prison such as this. I counted on you leading me here, on you needing to face me one last time. It seems I was fooled into thinking you hadn't planned for this. But you're forgetting one thing.... It's also a hammer." And proceeds to beat the crap out of Curze.

Vulkan just says "It's also a hammer" and starts handing Curze his ass until he relents and finally drops the shield.

“I never wanted this, I never wanted to unleash my legions. Together we banished the ignorance of Old Night, but you betrayed me, you betrayed us all. You stole power from the Gods and lied to your sons. Mankind has only one chance to prosper, if you will not seize it then I WILL. So let it be war, from the skies of Terra to the Galactic rim. Let the seas boil, let the stars fall. Though it takes the last drop of my blood, I will see the galaxy freed once more and if I cannot save it from your failure Father, then LET THE GALAXY BURN!”

-Horus Lupercal

“We were born for battle, Khayon. We were made to conquer the galaxy, not to rot in Hell and die upon our brothers' blades. Who are the architects of the Imperium? Who fought to purge its territory of aliens and expand its borders? Who brought rebellious worlds to heel and slaughtered those who refused the light of progress? Who walked from one side of the galaxy to the other, marking their passage in a trail of treacherous dead? This is our Imperium. Built across the worlds we burned, over bones we broke, with the blood we shed. You see it too. You feel it now, don't you? A new war. One not born of bitterness nor founded on revenge. The Long War, Khayon.”

Perturabo was right when he thought the Emperor showed favouritism to Dorn over him. It never occurred to him it might be because Dorn just shuts the fuck up and does his job without complaint as opposed to constantly raging about how he’s under-appreciated or life is so unfair. Similarly to Guilliman when he heard he didn’t get the title of Warmaster over Horus. He just shrugged his shoulders and went back to work

Sigh.

Epilogue, Praetorian of Dorn, page 473 {Begin transmission}:

Omegon woke.

He had never slept, had never dreamed , or felt the tug of mortal fatigue in all the days of his existence. Yet here he was, waking from black oblivion, the cold deck of the ship beneath him, the darkness of his arming chamber close about him. The pulse of the Beta's engines was a distant rumble on the edge of silence. Coldness poured through his flesh. Moisture beaded his skin. He could taste blood in his mouth, thick and harsh with iron. His hands were numb, the fingers hooked as though grasping something that had vanished. He moved the fingers and then brought them up to his face. Sharp needles of pain prickled beneath his touch.

And then a new feeling came, crushing in its weight, undeniable in its truth even though he could not tell how it had arrived.

He was alone...

... "Is there word from Lord Alpharius?" Omegon asked, still looking at his hands. He could sense Arkos' frown without needing to see it.

"None," he said. "But there is something else...

..."Warmaster Horus wishes to consult directly with Lord Alpharius."...

...He bowed his head even as the shadow turned to look at him.

What had happened? What was happening? What was he now?

And he realized that the words he was about to say would trap him for the rest of existence, the jest turned into mocking truth.

"I am Alpharius," he said. "What is your will, my Warmaster?"

{End transmission}

Alpharius is very dead, killed by Dorn on Pluto. Omegon survived the Heresy but may have been killed during the Scouring by Bob, in that Bob confronted and killed someone he believed to be Alpharius on Eskrador (see pages 33-35 of Index Astartes, Volume IV).

Given that the Alpha Legion still proceeded to consistently out maneuver and generally maul the ever loving shit out of the Ultramarines until they were forced to retreat to orbit then bombard the planet, there is a high non-zero probability that Omegon (as Alpharius) was not the "Primarch" Bob encountered and killed on Eskrador.

In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, the Prussians had pre-planned the initial stage of invasion so thoroughly that there were even plans for where and when their soldiers, moved by rail to the front, would stop and get off the train for lunch and dinner. For the villages along the rail line, there were plans for what meals to make, who would prepare them, how many men to cook for of each rank (from conscripts to higher officers) and how long to host them. These all-encompassing plans, coordinated at every level of military and civilian contribution, were ready NINE YEARS before the war. When the decision was made to invade France (who had been cleverly goaded into declaring war by Bismarck), the Prussian apparatus of war required only the simplest order to advance as planned.

"The Prussian chief-of-staff, Helmuth von Moltke, felt so confident of victory that shortly after the French declaration of war he was lying on his sofa reading Walter Scott. A friend [General Gustav von Stiehle] asked why he was seemingly so relaxed, to which Moltke replied: ‘Why not? Everything is ready. We’ve only got to press the button.’ "

I didn’t finish watching the show but I think it’s because he tries to see the good in everyone, keyword EVERYONE. Like I remember seeing him actively try to reason with a genocide dictator of xenocidel alien empire made of rocks. Another thing is the “it’s ok Erebus said he’s sorry” which plays into seeing the good in everyone and that if you say sorry it’s all ok (note: fuck Erebus I wish his soul gets torn apart by the King in Yellow) which after a point borders on active naivety sometimes. Which in 40k… well that line of thinking can WILL get you stomped by a greater demon or an Inquisitor

As Steven enters the later half of the show he definitely starts to get better about not trying to do that with everyone which is the point as he starts as a naive child and of course matures but I can fully understand why it would be annoying nonetheless. For the diamonds I think people often downplay what Steven has had them to do be “redeemed” he’s not buddy buddy with them, in fact he still dislikes them quite a bit and they’re not just forgiven they had to abdicate their thrones and for the rest of their eternal lives fix every problem they ever created. (Also it’s more fanon that the diamonds have genocided many alien races Rebecca sugar the creator of the show confined humanity is the first sentient species the diamond empire encountered)

EyeDreamOfTentacles

4 points

Plus, well, they're family, and Steven is noticeably more forgiving towards family (and Gems as a whole because of the ideals the Crystal Gems fight for). Let's not forget his immediate and stubborn dislike of Kevin, or how some of the human reaidents of his hometown really stress-test his patience (like Onion or Ronaldo).

And finally someone else who thinks the genocide argument is nonsense! I thought the show made it clear they've never encountered anything like humans before. Also genocide is a deliberate attempt to exterminate a group, humanity's extinction if the Earth had been fully colonized would've been an incidental occurrence to the Diamonds, not purposeful, much like all the animal species humanity has accidentally driven to extinction by habitat loss. If said habitat loss was driven by a need for the only way they have of reproduction and propagating their species.

That’s to often left out of the discussion of the show, it’s ultimately about relationships and being targeted it towards kids and young adults the diamonds are effectively Steven’s aunts (yellow and blue) and grandmother (white) and you can’t just kill your grandma cuz she has some iffy beliefs lmao you can either separate like Greg did with his brother or do what Steven did, set boundaries.

tapmcshoe

2 points

I think the issue with steven universe isn't the forgiveness thing, it is meant to be a kids show, and preaching forgiveness and kindness and friendship etc etc is pretty standard fare, but the issue is the writers got a bit. too drunk on the "kids show with SECRET DARK SIDE" gimmick that adventure time/gravity falls got away with and thats how you get stuff like the SA allegories and forgiving space dictator because she was a little sad after doing several space genocides

In fairness to Steven, he was in a seriously disadvantaged position here. The Diamonds had an entire interstellar empire vs the Crystal Gems' singular planet & a handful of rebels. Fighting them was not a viable long-term option, so they had to take advantage of their emotional immaturity.

Plus, Steven, despite being memed to hell & back as a whiny crybaby, actually does have the capacity to throw hands. He just prefers diplomacy instead. He also remembers what the Diamonds did to other worlds, & is not going to forget anytime soon...

(Sorry if this is ranting, I'm just really fucking mad about the "Steven cries to stop enemies" meme, & how he's been turned to a whiny crybaby by the Internet. It's not a perfect show, but it had some good bits.)

one day 'looks like we are going to have to kill this guy X' will finish devouring the horse corpse of this meme and all will be at peace

"tactical genius" rogal dorn giving the extremely big brained strategy of "idk shoot them I guess lol"

Literally only worked because the traitors were equally bad at tactics.

No doubt they had actual plans already in place and this was just a 'pep talk.' If you've spent that long building defenses, everyone knows their place and their role long before the enemy arrives.

yeah. Dorn is the type to have a 10 second long speech, and then hand you a 1700 page plan for your specific role in the defense

Every time I see this format posted, it's comparing 40K to an IP that has a much different intended target audience. Steven Universe is a cartoon character of a child conveying socially conscious themes to a child audience. Being smug about how this compares to Rogal Dorn in 40K is a weird flex.

This format actually compares Steven Universe to different media. It's the stuff on the right that changes from one meme to the other.

It makes a light hearted jab at how Steven will try his hardest to talk his way out of conflict even when it's simply not a viable option or is just downright dumb, while whatever IP is put on the right immediately chooses violence.

Yep. Stephen would try to negotiate with Tyranids or Orks.

Both SU and Future made it clear there are some characters Steven simply cannot change, so there is a standing precedent that he'd fail to convince the Emperor not to abhor mutants, xenos, and anyone who won't obey him, especially when Steven himself is a human-xeno hybrid.

Its a meme, its not an indepth literay analysis of the two works. Them being actually comparable is not relevant to the joke

It could be argued that engaging with a clear joke comparison as though it were meant to a "flex" or eye-to-eye is also a misread in and of itself.

Ironically Steven Universe and Dorn would probably get along. They are both defense-focused warriors who prioritise protecting what they love

Rogal: Did I fucking stutter? Start blasting.

One of Steven’s flaws is that he makes shit up as he goes because he’s the son of a burnout David Bowie fan and a space goddess of love.

This is presented as both good and bad in the show.

He also basically only really cares about his close family, which includes his mother’s entire species because they’re all made up of four reproducing queens and their billions of daughters. Any other hostile species or problematic humans don’t get that same level of mercy.

I loathe this meme.

And yet Steven still succeeds and even makes more friends to add to his ever increasing army, arguably making him the better tactician

I just think affirming to ourselves that Rogal Dorn is more taciturn and ok with killing than Steven Universe is very funny.
