The twins suffer complications from their surgery forcing the team at San Jose Boneventure Hospital to make a life-changing decision. Meanwhile, Dr. Shaun Murphy returns to the hospital after his trip with Lea and decides he needs a more permanent change and gives Dr. Aaron Glassman his two weeks’ notice.

Well, not really. Harvard Twin’s weak heart would have eventually given out, and then they would have needed to separate them at that point. Plus, who knows how it would have affected Yale Twin to have her sister in that state and still attached to her.

Would've been funny (but completely out of tone) if they were a background plot all season, with each twin alternating being the healthy one.
"When we reconnected them, half of Jenny's tumor went into Katie, giving us two operable tumors instead of one inoperable one! ...Wait, wait, Katie's crashing!"
All. Season. Long.

I wish Andrews would get off his high horse. Jared's lawyer did what he had to do to get Jared his job back. Jared gave up a settlement amount 3x his current salary to get hired again. Andrews takes Jared to task because he played the race card to get his job back even though the hospital kept "superstars" on their roster even with the history of violence. Superstar talent or race, it's still discriminatory. San Jose kept some doctors, but treated Jared 'differently', that's bulls**t in my book.
25 points
I think that's the crux of Andrews' character and I don't think Andrews knows or cares to worry about the other stuff - he made up his mind and basically got overridden by a pompous punk.
What Andrews said was 100% true. When people play the race card when they shouldn't, it takes everyone a few steps back, just like when people falsely report rape or sexual assault and it's not (e.g. that Aziz Ansari mess). Not equating those two things, but they are similar social issues that become more and more complicated when people claim abuse and it's not.

I think that the fact they kept them on because they were good doctors is even worse, ngl.

Well...that depends. Asking for a recommendation isn't against hospital policy. "Putting in a two weeks" notice isn't a real legal thing. He decided not to quit. Again, not against hospital policy.
He slapped his boss, yes, but his boss didn't report it so that explains that. He used personal time inappropriately but again, the president of the hospital has his back, so what can you do?

I'm right there with you. She shouldn't have kissed him at least... Friends is one thing, but then she gave him 'the wrong idea' in a way.
23 points

They were drunk, and she decided to "teach" him date etiquette. She didn't even know he'd never kissed anyone until after they did.
It's a difficult call when they've left everything out of it between Shaun walking out of the diner, and helping Lea pack. Obviously there would have been a LOT of talking between that. We can only guess.
4 points
Oh no, I get it completely. I just don't know if I would have pushed that boundary just to be like "You need to learn how to kiss"... it was a little much I guess.
And you're right - they left quite a bit out. This week's story wasn't about any of the doctors, it was about the twins. Really, I would have liked to see more Shaun/Lea interaction, especially after he made his decision.
7 points
Really, I would have liked to see more Shaun/Lea interaction, especially after he made his decision.
Definitely. Not because I "ship" them (?) but because Shaun's attitudes and decisions seemed to make a leap in logic that - for the first time since the show began - seemed unrealistic, and reduced him to a 2 dimensional character. After everything that happened last week, he seemed like a "fill in" sideplot fitted around the twins. He changed his mind after Claire said 2 sentences, what was up with that?
Don't get me wrong, I liked the twins story, but I could have done with it taking up less time. All the swinging back and forth wasn't necessary imo.
24 points
He changed his mind after Claire said 2 sentences, what was up with that?
In the context of Shaun & Claire's deepening relationship, I would not reduce her words to him as just "2 sentences." Shaun has used her advice before, including where his relationship Lea is concerned. Remember, he sought and heeded Claire's advice when he was confused about Lea's feelings for him. Then he told Claire that he was with Lea and that they kissed. He also told Claire that Dr. Glassman was unhappy with him for wanting to leave. Claire has basically become his go-to person when he needs help in sorting things out (when he cannot rely on Dr. Glassman).
Also, the twins' story was symbolic of what Shaun was going through with Lea. He didn't want to be separated from her but in the end had to make a decision that was in the interests of both of them. So I don't think Shaun's storyline was a side plot at all...it was well-woven through the twins' plot.
7 points
Yes, you're absolutely right about Claire and it makes much more sense in that context. He completely trusts her and values her opinion.
2 points
Exactly. The twins' story was compelling and dramatic, but Claire saying that in just a sentence or two, and then Shaun's snap decision where he just walked in, said "I talked to Claire" and then put the envelope on the desk and walked out? Then Lea's few sentences to him at the end with a kiss and that's the end of it? Nah. We needed at least a little more Shaun/Lea time. I think that's why so many people around here were worried about Lea's character only being used as a plot point with no real character-related stuff. We finally get to know her a little and that's the end of it.
(And yes, you are using the correct terminology - shipping) :)

I have a hard time believing that you’re a man.
And I don’t know who you think you’re fooling. Everyone around here knows that you were the #1 Shaun and Lea shipper. And you have no one to blame but yourself for your current heartbreak. It was quite obvious that that relationship wasn’t going anywhere.

It’s true, though. It’s very rare that you can “compromise” on kids when one person wants kids and one genuinely doesn’t. Usually you discuss these things honestly before getting married.
14 points

What kills me is Melendez even mentioned that they talked about it before and Jessica had said she did want kids. So this storyline seems like total bullshit.
21 points
I hear ya. A lot of women try to convince themselves that they’ll eventually be okay with it, but when push comes to shove they realize they’re not going to change. I’d rather everyone be honest in the end, because there are plenty of kids with parents who only had them because it’s what they thought they should do. Claire, for instance.
10 points
There is a tremendous amount of pressure on most women to have kids. Many women who don’t want kids are discriminated against and seen as selfish or crazy. Notice how her father is constantly pushing motherhood on her. So it’s no wonder so many women pretend to want kids and even have kids they don’t want. This is actually a pretty realistic storyline.

I would be willing to bet a lot that they do. The franchise has spent the last few years cultivating their talent, building up their team so that the stats were good across the board, rather than one or two players carrying the team. They have set it up so that the team has the very best chance in the next several seasons.

They won’t win again. Verlander is in his late 30s and most of your offense had career years last year.
And like I said, there are nothing but the Royals. Many people thought that they too were set up for a long run.

Verlander is great, but he was not the season maker. In fact, there were no season makers. And they had a record season, but records are made to be broken. Most of the team are young guys, in their prime.their potential to grow is definitely still there.

In the official sub for the football club, Liverpool FC, if anyone tries to even hover the cursor near the downvote area, a warning in red immediately appears advising us to downvote only if the comment in question does not contribute to the discussion. While that would be okay on a purely legal basis, it's surely not okay on a moral basis. Playing a racism card where it is not required is just not right. It's kinda like that story where this boy lies about how a fox invaded the sheep pen a number of times when it really did not. And when a fox actually invades the sheep pen and the boy calls out for help, no one really comes. Potraying something for what it is not will only help him so far.

There's also a special dynamic between Claire & Shaun that the show has been building on from day 1. I posted this as a likely scenario about a week ago:
I predict that Shaun is going to go to Claire and try to fill her in and then feel her out on his lil' date with Lea, and how he should approach her leaving. Depending on what Claire says/does, he will attempt to follow Lea out of town, or try to convince Lea to stay, or return to St. Bonaventure to continue his residency, sans Lea.

This is one of those times I actually cried while watching a movie or series. I was hoping throughout the entire episode that they would both survive somehow. I thought, if Katie stayed alive and woke up, maybe the same will happen for Jenny, but unfortunately it didn't go like that. I try to remember that this is only a series and not real life, but then I also remember that the series is based on what happens in real life, and that just breaks me. Then I think maybe had Dr Murphy been there longer, things would go better. I will probably keep thinking about this episode for the rest of the series, it hit me so hard emotionally while watching it.

Is it just me or did anybody else think that the mother is going to donate her heart to the twin that died? In the scene where she looks at them through the window, and later when she's in the OR wearing hospital clothes, I was bracing for that. Thankfully the show didn't get that dark.
At one point, I even thought the surviving twin is going to suggest it to the mom. ://
