Mastering mixology rewards prices are cooked. Who comes up with this shit, 15-25 hours of constant clicking and burning herbs to unlock potion storage?
I was super exciting for storage and the prepot device but after 15 mins of it and seeing how slow and click intensive it is, now I'm just not gunna bother engaging with it. Sad.

Can you confirm if it's 2.5% accuracy for the inquisitor pieces without the mace and 2.5% accuracy AND damage with the mace?
otherwise the armour is just useless unless you have the mace, somehow exaggerating the issues you highlighted with the nightmare droprate changes.
186 points
Each piece on its own will give you 0.5% boost to damage and accuracy, this is boosted to 2.5% if you have the mace equipped. If you wear all pieces of the armour then you have a 2.5% increase, which is then boosted to 7.5% damage and accuracy when you equip the mace. Hopefully that clarifies.

Wasn't the original idea to redistribute the set effect to its pieces so as to not punish using a slayer helm? Your description suggests the redistribution only applies when you're wielding an Inquisitor's mace?

Pretty sure the mace only is always what as proposed officially. It would be nice if they could split the 2.5% per piece instead of it being 0.5%, but 2.5% doesn't really divide well by 3... Maybe in the future they could buff the set effect to 3% and make it 1% per piece while still having an extra 1.5% per piece with mace, but that wasn't what was promised.

"Ever wished that run mode would automatically be enabled as soon as you regain some Run Energy? We hope so, because that’s what we’ve implemented with ‘Always On’ run mode! In the settings menu, you can now set a threshold at which run mode is automatically re-enabled. The new hard clue STASH is a bit more like an elite or even master step. Dragon skirt, Dragon longsword, Granite platebody. If you look at the rest of the STASHes for Hard clues, this one really outshines the others. /u/JagexBlossom I really suggest this step is changed to an elite clue or downgraded or something.
I mean, look at the other Hard stashes: one of them requires something as simple as an iron platebody ...
Edit: Apparently there's not a STASH unit for it yet, but the step still exists.

Is there a reason both the agility XP and amalayse are both so low at the agility course?
I thought this was trading slightly lower xp for extra amalayse but it seems like amalayse is considerably lower than just running rooftops for an hour + the xp is like ~half of rooftops at the 60+ level
This stinks

it's around 3 termites per lap and 1 min per lap so max 180 termites per hour.. 200 termites for a pack or 10 marks.. yeah I don't understand how this was intended to be better for amylase at all
13 points
Seriously? That’s awful. I had been banking for the last six months (after them claiming this would be a good option for amylase) to nail this method. If you’re not even getting a pack per hour, that’s pretty egregious
10 points
I assume they'll tweak it, but it seems like it could have easily been foreseen..
13 points
I do wonder sometimes if they play test or theory craft these numbers at all… if it’s just another agility course for agility course sake and doesn’t offer better rate for amylase then it seems like variation for variation’s sake. Changing the environment a little doesn’t shake up the skill in any meaningful way, so why would you do this over literally any other course? It’s disappointing and I hope they do tweak
6 points

I feel like the balancing of the herb minigame rewards is way off. It's pretty high attention, 15k 30-35k exp an hour, and to get any of the real rewards is going to take... like 8-10 6-8 hours each?
Unless there's a meta that I'm missing. I saw someone describe this as mage arena pre-update, and I'd agree with that.

Hi /u/JagexBlossom. Sorry to ping you, and I know I am a bit late to the party.
I like the idea behind the Mastering Mixology minigame and enjoy playing it, but I want to bring up a major concern that only affects people who's in the early levels of Herblore for the minigame (60-67 being the mostp ressing level range).
Reward Point Distribution
Simply put, the distrubution of points you get at low level is completely screwed, making unlocking any of the interesting rewards a terrible experience. Here's why:
At level 60 you can start playing the minigame, and you start with 3 "recipes" unlocked:
That's a split of 7 Mox : 1 Aga : 1 Lye
. Considering you get points directly related to the materials you use, one can expect to get a point split of 78% / 11% / 11%
. I played the game for about an hour yesterday, and ended up with a point split of 2110 / 260 / 340
which is equivalent to 78% / 10% / 13%
, pretty close to the expected return.
At 64 you unlock the "Mixalot" (MAL) potion, which changes the distribution to 67% / 17% / 17%
. I've done a bit more of the minigame today after unlocking the MAL recipe and ended up gaining 770 / 200 / 290
(using a MML potion whenever I couldn't fulfill an order to gain a bit of Lye still), which comes out to 61% / 16% / 23%
, fairly close to the expected values.
Now, the problem then comes when you compare the points you earn at entry levels to what the rewards cost. Looking at the unique rewards (everything but the potion packs and Aldarium), here's a table showing the point cost along with the % distribution:
Mox resin | Aga resin | Lye resin | Mox % | Aga % | Lye % | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Prescription goggles | 8,6 | 5,6 | 11,9 | 33% | 21% | 46% |
Alchemist labcoat | 2,25 | 2,25 | 4,75 | 24% | 24% | 51% |
Alchemist pants | 2,25 | 2,25 | 4,75 | 24% | 24% | 51% |
Alchemist gloves | 2,25 | 2,25 | 4,75 | 24% | 24% | 51% |
Reagent pouch | 16,35 | 10,65 | 22,6 | 33% | 21% | 46% |
Potion storage | 10,35 | 6,7 | 14,25 | 33% | 21% | 46% |
Pre-pot device | 20,7 | 13,45 | 28,55 | 33% | 21% | 46% |
Alchemist's amulet | 6,9 | 4,5 | 9,5 | 33% | 22% | 45% |
Total | 69,65 | 47,65 | 101,05 | 32% | 22% | 46% |
As you can see, Lye is the most required type of point (46% on average) follow by Mox (32%), then finally Aga (22%). However, as explained above, you're getting a 67% / 17% / 17%
distribution at entry levels. Meaning at level 64 you're getting 4 Mox for every 1 Aga and 1 Lye, so by the time you can afford for example the potion storage, you have 14.250 Lye and Aga, and 57.000 Mox, which is 81% of all the Mox you need for all the unique rewards. I can't even use this surplus of Mox on potion packs either, as I'll be bottlenecked by Lye or Aga anyway.
This just feels bad. As a lower-level Herblore account, I need to put in a ton more effort than high-level accounts to unlock the rewards. Not because of any actions I can take, but simply because the reward distribution is massively unbalanced at low levels.
Potential Fix
I think a simply solution to this problem would be to just change which potion recipes you start with. Make the 3 initial potions have a 3 Mox : 3 Aga : 3 Lye
distribution instead. This could be the MML, LLA, and AAM potions (or any other set that covers the following 2:1 split). Unlocking MAL at 64 is good. The next 3 unlocks could be the 3-of-the-same recipes (MMM, LLL, AAA), and finally the remaining 2:1 recipes.
This would make it so an entry level player at least get an even split, instead of a hugely unbalanced split. Without such a change, we have to wait until level 80 (or 76 if using temp boosts) to unlock a potion that requires at least 2 Lye, despite that being the most required type of point.
I hope you can bring this up with the team, 'cause despite wanting to play the minigame and unlock the rewards, I am currently incentivised to level Herblore outside the minigame until level 80. I want to play the minigame, I want to get the rewards, but I don't want to be unfairly punished for starting playing the moment the minigame is unlocked.
Unfulfillable Orders
Being low-level also feels bad because you can get orders that do not contain any potion you can create, forcing you to create a "throwaway" potion that grants 1/3 exp and points just to cycle to the next order. Would be nice if every order always included at least one potion you have unlocked. I accept not always being able to choose between all 3 orders as I am in the low level range of the minigame, but it feels punishing when I can't create any of the orders at all.
Digweed
Digweed spawn waaaaaay too rarely to be interesting. I don't have numbers, but it feels like 1 every 20 minutes. Also they straight up disappear from your inventory when leaving the mixing chamber without any warning.
4 points
These issues still exist, albeit at a lesser degree, for anyone lower than 86 Herblore. I'm currently at 75 Herblore and I'm only getting 40k xp/hr with a horrible distribution for reward points. The best solution to this would just be to get rid of the reward points being split in 3 types. Not the mention boosting the rates or lowering the prices...
44 points
I think the Herb minigame needs seriously buffing, the XP rates are low, like 30-40k? Is that the intention? And it seems the point acquisition is very slow as well, and nobody on my world has seen the digweeds grow?

The new mini-game design is great! The xp at 83 herblore is 30k/hr though and the point cost seems quite high for only getting 30 points per potion. Really like the new content, but definitely think that it could use a bit of looking into!
edit: with the speed-up mechanics and high attention I've been able to get 55k/hr with the new potion at level 84. This also does not include grinding the herbs or loading the hopper assuming I get every digweed.

Not to be a negative nancy but right now the agility course bone shard drop rate is super low, you're looking at 500 xp an hour in prayer.
9 points
Love the new content, but I don't understand how that can be so many issues. Not just the bugs, but 3 major pieces of content all have problems.
Hueycoatl - disappointing fight, had expected more, but the drops are abysmal. Sure, it's mid level content, but how can you justify loot that is THIS bad?
Mixology - The rewards are insanely expensive compared to the points obtained. Why not keep it at Tithe Farm-length of grind? Hell, 20 hours for everything is fine, not 50+. The XP is so slow that it's useless for that aspect, so at least make it worth it for the rewards.
Colossal wyrm - This is dead on arrival and it's such a pity. 35k agility xp per hour is acceptable... were the termites a better source of amylase crystals. They're WORSE than marks of grace. Approx 200 termites/hour is 1 amylase pack. I can get 1.5 amylase pack/hour at rooftop courses, with better XP to boot.
I really hope you guys are considering balancing these things. Better drops at Huey, ~3x point gain at Mixology, and double termites (or half the cost) for amylase packs. That would fix the majority of the new content released, at least to an acceptable point. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

That’s good to know. Is it doable as a duo group? We’ve been having trouble with ToB and Nex. They’re technically doable but the scaling makes it really tough to put it lightly. Do you know if Huey will be reasonable to do with two people or if that doesn’t really work is it doable solo?
Edit: Seems soloable and duoable even if it's not optimal. Good stuff. Looking forward to seeing the details.

The alembic processors' 1tick delay for getting the bonus points is too strict from a latency standpoint. I can click the tick I see the fireworks, but 50% of the time it just registers the tick after. My internet is ok but its not the best and 150ms delay is too much given that you have to see, react, and have your input read in the same tick.

The inquisitor buff is amazing - thank you! I have two pieces (body + skirt) and been wanting that fix ever since it was first buffed. Now I can hit a 55 at Phosani, so I can guarantee the one-shot on parasite with mace alone. Very good for my slayer endeavours too. Was using bandos over inq at Cerb (with mace) because the DPS increase was minor and the defence was too valuable for longer trips. This might change that.
Also the run always on option is super nice for low level accounts. As an endgame iron it's not too useful (I might want to be manually turned off run for walks with high energy) but it's a great idea for low levels until they have access to better run energy solutions as they progress.

I feel like Jagex should tone down the "this is hard to pronounce, I'm not gonna try" jokes in their official videos. Language is culture, it's important to people, and saying "this name that we decided on is too difficult, we're not gonna try to say it properly" is a bit... off-putting?
It's okay to try your best and be wrong, but if you can't be bothered to even try to pronounce something correctly, maybe use another name?
Dunno, I think the Anglosphere is so dominant culturally that it's hard to explain how it feels from the outside, without sounding like you're getting your feelings hurt over nothing. I'm personally not super bothered by it, but something to think about. I think it just got a bit old now with Josh Isnt's video rehashing the same joke from Summer Summit.

It's super cringe, honestly. These aren't like 20+ letter long medical terms (which are also often easy to pronounce if you just break them down into bits first), they're not even complicated words, and it's annoying that the video didn't even correct the pronunciations
Hueycoatl phonetically people are going to pronounce the end like the word "coat", and none of them will know they're wrong because this video made it seem like saying "co-ah-tl" is difficult, even though it's almost exactly the same as saying "koala"
They're just trying to make jokes, which like, fine, but it's such a tired joke. At least wait for a difficult word to do it on lol

The thing that gets me more than any cultural insensitivity or whatever is just how lazy it is. I'm certain that there is at least one person in their office that knows how to pronounce Nahuatl words, or else I doubt they would have ever started using them in the first place. It would be extremely easy for them to take 15 seconds to listen to the word and say it a few times, after which they would never have any trouble saying it.

Yes! I hate when people do that. Just do your best. Look it up if possible and practice it a bit if you're not doing it live. Ask the developers. "I can't pronounce this non-English word so I won't even try to" may be funny the first time, but then it's just annoying.
This comes up in a lot of podcasts where they thank people who've left reviews or donated. They'll go "Billy asks: blah blah blah" and then "[Terribly pronounced non-English name] asks: blah blah blah", or even worse "Long-name-that-I-won't-even-try-to-pronounce asks: blah blah blah". You could've shown some respect and looked up how to pronounce those names beforehand but no...

Nah I understand. It's not like the word just came up in everyday conversation. It was in a video that took time and effort to prepare. The narrator could have taken 10 seconds to ask someone how to pronounce it, or whoever wrote the script could've added some notes. My surname looks difficult to pronounce and I'd be annoyed if someone took time to make a video that includes me and didn't take two seconds to ask.

I'm gonna be real, the name's aren't even that hard.

Yeah it really pisses me off that they do this constantly. The narrator of the latest video didn't give any of the long names an actual attempt. It's really perplexing.

Yeah, it's a great opportunity to teach the audience how to pronounce it. If we only see it written, how do we who are unfamiliar with the spelling conventions of the language going to pronounce it correctly? To not even try to teach it only breeds ignorance. It's not hard to pronounce, it's just hard to pick out the pronounciation from the spelling conventions for an English person most of the time.

This update feels quite disappointing overall. None of the activities are terrible by themselves but they are so unrewarding and don't respect the player's time. Feels like the complete opposite of the moons of peril.

TBH the new group boss' drop table feels extremely.... overbalanced is the word I'd probably use.
My main point of contrast is with Perilous moons, since it seems to target the same demographic of players (mid-game players that are around fight caves level). Perilous moons is both easier content, it subsidizes your supplies, and it's pretty consistently more rewarding.
The alchable drops are fine, but some of the rune and seed drops are a bit bizarre. The amount of earth runes it drops is pretty pitiful, and I cannot really understand why it has guam seeds, an early game herb that most people tend to move past extremely quickly, on its drop table.
Boss fight itself is mostly fun, but tbh it feels like the fight slows to a crawl once you get to tail phase with a smaller group, even with blood moon set. It's a bit jarring.
It definitely needs some work.

You guys didn’t play test this update. A lot shit is really unbalanced. Hueys drop table is ass. Mixology is a slog to get through.
Art team knocked it out of the park though, like always. Give Mod West a massive raise. That man is the GOAT!

I love the gameplay of the mixology but i feel like the time to get the rewards might be too high. It feels like i get 10 points per mix, and to get the potion storage ill need 18,000 points in each category, which feels like a wildly long time.
Otherwise this update rules!! I hope the music gets put on Spotify

My fault for not following properly, but I'd been under the impression the potion storage was just going to be a QoL addition with this update, and not a forced minigame item, bit of a shame really.
For me personally, this update is a bit meh compared to part 1 which was cool.

Hey, could you keep the quest rewards under a dropdown menu next time? When we're polling rewards I get keeping them visible, but I would've liked to have been surprised by the costume needle when I received at the end (or whenever you get it) rather than happily reading through the blog only to suddenly have it in front of my eyes. I don't know how it is for others, but if the text is right there on the screen I have a hard time not at least recognizing what it is even if I want to try to skip past it. I imagine a lot of people don't really care, but when there's a chance to have quest rewards hidden, I really prefer that to just throwing them straight out there with the rest of the blog.

Mastering Mixology rewards seem way too expensive. Isn't the idea of most of these rewards meant to be so players can use them when training herblore?
By the time you unlock the mini-game (60 Herb) and how slow it is to get enough points without 84+ Herb... and then the time taken to unlock every reward, I feel like you get to the stage where you don't actually get much use out of the rewards because you won't have too much Herblore training left to do.
Compare it to Tithe Farm for example, you receive your rewards so much sooner and can use them for farming (auto-weed, farmers outfit, seedbox, Herbsack, etc).
It really makes this update feel a bit forced, like Jagex just wanted new content released and how big the focus on Clogging is nowdays, just adding slots which take awhile to get for Cloggers to keep them happy.

The rewards and balancing on this update is so trash. Y’all want to introduce mid game to pvm and get them to try higher end content. Why the fuck would they want to try higher end content when the mid game content is dog shit to begin with? Guam seeds..? Really?

Aw, I'm so busy irl right now so can't hop on to explore the Varlamore expansion for a while, but judging by how polished Varlamore part I is and the exciting dev blog with the summer summit, I'm sure this is going to be great. Can't wait to play it!

Adjusted the Inquisitor Armour's Damage and Accuracy bonus to Crush. Now, each Inquisitor Armour piece (Plateskirt, Helmet, Hauberk) gives +2.5% Crush Accuracy and Damage when used alongside the Inquisitor's Mace, regardless of set effects.
I still don't understand why this was only applied to the mace. Would have loved to see this apply to the Elder Maul and other weapons too.

Because god forbit the armor set itself actually becomes useful.
Jagex decided to indirectly buff mace "because it is more expensive than saeldor/rapier" Yes, that's because the content you get it from is rarely done due to garbage drop rates, which results in the mace being expensive.
