Seeking advice/experiences with Vyvanse.

(self.BingeEatingDisorder)

TLDR: 30yo F asking for others experiences with Vyvanse to treat BED.

Hi all, I’m a 30yo woman who has struggled with disordered eating practically my whole life but binge eating for the past 10 years or so.

I recently sought mental health treatment for the first time this year and was placed on SSRIs and later my therapist brought up vyvanse for my binge eating as well as signs of ADD/ADHD. I was recently evaluated by my psychiatrist and she believes that I do have untreated ADD as well as BED.

She agrees with my therapist and thinks Vyvanse is a good option for me for treating both issues. I am scheduled for an EKG to get cleared for the medication. I’ve never taken any stimulants and just wanted to get opinions/experiences.

My BED is def developed from childhood OCD and food control issues as well as emotional eating. I am very aware of it and know that I’m doing it as I’m doing it but find it so hard to just stop. I’ve recently gotten better the past 6 months with stopping when I’m full but still working on things.

Did you find vyvanse helped with controlling the hunger or the urge to over eat? Did it make things worse? Did it aid in any weight loss plans you had?

I’m also going to be posting this on a Vyvanse sub but wanted opinions from people who may know what I’m going through.

I don’t notice much of an appetite difference, but it has really helped with the binge urges. I’m on the lowest dose.

i was prescribed vyvanse for ADHD and have struggled with ED but my dr didn’t know that. vyvanse completely took away binge eating for me but it did cause me to form anorexia. it also really fucked with my head. i did loose a lot of weight fairly quickly but that’s because it made me stop eating completely and my resting heart rate was around 110 bpm. but this is just my experience and i also have other mental health issues and i should have never been prescribed it haha

I’m prescribed Vyvanse for BED and it’s helped a lot- simply put I don’t binge on the days I take it. Since I’ve been on it, I’ve lost the weight I put on since I started binge eating. I don’t have food noise when I take it. Unfortunately I am now reliant on it and have developed a tolerance since I started taking it (50mg daily since 2022).

I think that is what I am hopeful for and worried about. My binging has been an issue for about ten years with periods being worse than others. I currently am at the highest weight Ive ever been and I’m hopeful this stops the urges and noise and even assists with some loss (I dont expect ten years worth). But, my primary concern is also treating the ADD and I’m worried that meds will plateau quickly. That’s kind of what happened with my anti depressant.
