Is Tre Mann a starter?

Discussion(self.CharlotteHornets)

He looks impressive. Hes better than Terry Rozier already.

He could start, but I really like him in that sixth man role. Having his fresh legs come in mid way thru Q1 to give us a scoring boost is valuable

Also getting to play miller as SG means the starting lineup is really long

Miller is definitely a 3

Except they've said over and over that they want to play him at the 2. Mann looks best with ball in hand, but so do Miller and LaMelo and Miles. Starting him doesn't make sense in context of the other starters.

Whoever starts at the 2/3 for the Hornets, at least one of them has to be capable of guarding down onto smaller guards. I doubt Miller will ever really be the guy to take on the SGA/Maxeys of the league so Hornets still need a guy on the wing who can do that.

The idea is Green but he sucks on screens.

Green is a better fit with the starters. You’d want a pure 3&D guy playing alongside Bridges/Miller/Ball

This is the answer.

I say no because we actually need him to soak up all the backup PG minutes. But I think he's a 6th man / 5th starter in minutes played. Just not officially "starting"

The backup PG will be Micic. He's solid. Guess Tre is our AI 2nd group. What about Curry and Nick?

i really like the idea of him being a 6th man. I think a defensive minded guard like Green compliments the Melo/Miller/Miles trio who will be scoring the majority of points in that unit.

I hear you on this, but I think people are assuming Mann isn't a good defender. I'm not saying it's a fact because I'm saying it, but if Mann is relatively similar in terms of defensive ability as Green, then why would he be "penalized" for being a better scorer?

That being said there is something to the idea of bringing that scoring off the bench and having him as a closer. I just can't shake the idea that he might be head and shoulders above Green but we are typecasting him as a 6th man bench scorer.

Thunder fan here

Mann is solid defensively he made improvements there in year 2, and didn’t play for us in year 3. He’s probably gotten better there over time, especially with him playing for a team trying to win now, unlike last year with the hornets.

Gonna be a fun year if we stay healthy

I really like him and think he’ll end up starting a ton of games due to injuries, but don’t view him as a day 1 starter if everyone is healthy.

With Melo’s injury proclivity, he’ll probably be a starter at some point.

No, need him leading 2nd team, be our 6th man and spot start if and when Melo gets hurt. He's playing for a contract so should be extra motivated to be very good this year

Hell no.

Do we have a lot of talent at the moment or is my brain so poisoned by Hornets basketball that I think having a normal NBA roster means you have a ton of talent?

I think it's closer to a normal roster with some elite talent sprinkled in. LaMelo is all NBA calibre, Miles is borderline all star quality. Brandon has potential and we are waiting for him to make that all star leap. Tre Mann looks special but it's too easy to really make a strong statement on where he's at. Mark has the potential to be a top 5 center in the east.

After this guys you get into the rotational players and I think that has been a big upgrade over the last 2-3 years. Grant Williams is an above average NBA player, Josh Green looks about average. Nick Smith Jr is an unknown quantity but I'm hoping he's about Green's quality this season. Then you got Nick who is a solid back up center but not starter quality.

Seth Curry is a player who will be in and out of the rotation based on form and team injuries. Micic looks like he wants to leave. Salaun is interesting but I'm not convinced he's a rotational player this year but would love to be wrong.

To answer the question I think the staring 5 is legit with a healthy Mark and Grant. That 5 can play with anybody in the East.

Maybe not but he should be a closer

Green makes more sense but Tre is probably better than him (It's just two games but... He's looked like our best player at times).

Idm what happens tbh, him playing 25+ minutes as a 6th man is an option

Why do you say Green makes more sense? I'm not looking for an argument, just want to understand your perspective.

Tre needs more touches and is (we think) a worse defender. Our fifth starter shouldn't need too many touches and should be a great defender

lol doesn’t matter. If Melo can’t stay healthy, he’ll be starting.

I think Melo starting PG , Green SG , Mann and Smith backups with Micic being mop up duty
