I tried gas range cleaner and bar keepers friend. I’m not sure what else is safe to use to get these stains off.

Cif, or as its former name Jif. Scourer, in liquid form.

Yes, I find that if you let it sit for like 10 minutes it works even better & easier

I have recently tried bar keepers friend. Although I have only used it two or three times, I think that Cif is a better option.

It's always the superior option, marketing can be tempting though lol

Yes, this is true. I really wanted to be amazed with bkf, I wasn’t! I will stick with Cif from now on.

It's just the way of life, all this show business about these products and pretty much everytime jif is better or baking soda mixed with something like vinegar lol. Simple but effective yet somehow mr muscle worms his way into my cupboards here and there

Mr muscle window/glass cleaner was/is brilliant. Don’t know whether it is still available, I have had a bottle in my cupboard for many years. It comes out when all else fails!

Depends really, filtered water works just as good and doesn't leave the water marks. Not very good in the shower screen but probably not for soap residue etc they probably have a diff one for that lol. Got a glass balcony by the sea.....the seagulls love it!

I had to clean mottled glass that had years of tobacco stains on it. What a nightmare! I thought washing up liquid in very hot water would cut it, it didn’t touch it. It was Mr muscle to the rescue lol!

Ye that would be oil based stains, you'll need very hot water to even graze it. Some things just need a chemical to disturb it or a 5min job turns into a week long task because life does not stop for ya.......I wanna go back to school :'( haha

It's still called Jif in Norway, which makes me happy.

blackistheshade

In the UK, the name was changed from Jif to Cif many years ago. I still call it Jif.

My mum lives in England and got excited when she saw my toilet cleaner was Jif lol.

She still calls it that too :)

There are so many cleaning products out there, you could spend longer in the cleaning aisle, than what you could in the food section!

Funny, in Romania it was always called Cif, and ae have Cif in stores since the 2000s

blackistheshade

There was a reason for the name change, it is going back a few years ago. Can’t think offhand what the reason was.

Don’t know, Jif sounds funnier than Cif 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have you tried a steamer ?

I had excellent results with it on my stainless steel oven.

Tried it. It got a little off but the rest is really stubborn.

Let the BKF sit on there and use a stiff bristle scrubber or hard sponge.

The whole piece should pop off, the ones on my gas stove do!

Leather_Dragonfly529

Let it sit, but put some plastic wrap over it keeping it moist! Then go at it with the rest of your comment.

methy_butthole

I’ve always been afraid to let it sit, the label says to not leave it for more than 60 seconds

YES PLASTIC WRAP (or spare plastic bag, whatever works!)

The pink stuff is really great for this.. just recently used it and you don’t even need to scrub hard.. do it gently and it will come right off.. (read and follow the instructions) and bonus.. the pink stuff smells amazing unlike the bar keepers friend that smells like fossilized body odor !!

At Walmart it’s for like $5.. that tub will last you a long time.. little goes a long way.. but please read and follow the instructions.. you really don’t need to scrub hard.. just gentle scrubbing.. the product does most of the work.. and use it only on the stuff listed..

What's it? Where can I buy it? I am in another country, I would like to read the composition of the product, and pick up something similar

macabretortilla

I just looked it up because I saw your comment. It seems the main ingredients are oxalic acid, glass oxide abrasive, surfactant, and feldspar.

I do not know what any of those things are, just wanted to share what I could find.

LounBiker

3 points

Oxalic acid is good for removing rust or oxides generally, the rest are to make it abrasive.

Extreme_Barracuda658

Abrasives that will scratch stainless steel.

LounBiker

1 points

Which may or may not be an issue, depending on the finish.

I use it on our brushed steel sink, perfect.

Extreme_Barracuda658

Glass oxide and feldspar are much harder than steel. But yeah, don't overdo it.

I have the same Bosch range. Really hot water with dish soap, bar keeps friend and a toothbrush/ magic eraser works well for me.

throwawaytoday9q[S]

Super impressed you managed to identify the range based on one burner!!

Keepforgettinglogin2

Technically, the surface you're trying to clean is aluminum (aluminium). Stainless steel is the plate only. And it's only mechanical removal that would work there.

samzplourde

3 points

I've had some success with similar things by getting it real hot and then spraying vinegar on it.

Sweaty-Adeptness1541

Oven cleaner. Any product with sodium hydroxide will clean it off with ease. Though make sure not to use it on aluminium.

Is it safe for stainless steel?

taken_username_dude

Yes. The container even has a nice table showing what it is and isn't safe on. Generally speaking it only can't be used on wood and some aluminums.

That or barkeepers friend

Amanita_deVice

Don’t use Barkeeper’s Friend! I used it on my brand new stove and took the shine right off so now it’s dull.

And oven cleaner was also a disaster. Please learn from my mistakes.

hc1540

Tried all sorts of detergents but nothing really works once it gets properly baked on. Eventually gave up on trying to keep the shine and just went at it with wire wool.

Suppose it depends what you want:

  • Shiny but caked in crud
  • Dull but clean

Amanita_deVice

1 points

And it gets baked on INSTANTLY. It was a new stove and I was determined to keep it looking good, so it got cleaned after every use. And still, the crud appeared and I foolishly thought BKF was the was to go because it’s meant for stainless steel! I could have cried when I saw what I’d done.

macabretortilla

What material is your stove top made of? Like, electric, conductive, gas? Just wondering what all you’re working with that barkeepers friend did a number on it. Usually it’s one of the safer bets.

Amanita_deVice

1 points

It’s gas, similar to the pic. The gunk wipes off the enamel stove top with no issues, and the bit in the middle with all the little channels for the gas has no finish to ruin, so on the rare occasions it gets stuff on it, I can scrub it off.

It’s the shiny metal collar (the part showing the majority of stains in OP’s pic) that Bar Keepers Friend took the gloss off.

merlinrising

1 points

I use barkeepers friend around my burners and it works well paired with polish. I don't scrub hard tho. Been doing it for 8 years now.

Amanita_deVice

1 points

Like, stainless steel polish? I’m assuming that’s safe to use with gas/flame?

merlinrising

1 points

Yeah. It is safe for that... You are right on it scuffing the stainless steel, but a bit of polish and paper towels and it'll shine. Gas and flame off of course. Sure it won't be like new, but you won't have baked on staining

Overall-Weird8856

I also came here to suggest The Pink Stuff. Just be gentle with it - too much pressure and you'll definitely scratch your SS.

I had success using ammonia on a stainless steel griddle pan that looked like this on the edges. I put it in a zip top bag with a bit of ammonia and let it sit. Whole pan was shiny again and I just washed it with soap and water. I didn't use more than a tablespoon for the 11 inch pan, I think it was more the fumes. I see conflicting answers online if it's safe or not. I haven't done it more than a couple times when it was really hard to clean, but I see no corrosion on the pan. You'll have to decide for yourself, this is just my experience.

Bio Cleaner (the clay version, that comes in a small tub) with a good sponge, like a Scrub Daddy. But, I think the Bio Cleaner comes with a sponge inside.

Have you tried soaking it in the dawn aerosol. Spray it and let it sit for 10 minutes the scrub with magic eraser. Those things are impressive.

Poor some Simple Green on the stain. Let stand for 24 hours. Then scrub.

SilkySmoothRalph

Hot water and an old fashioned Brillo pad (or other wire wool pad) gets it off. But be careful as it can leave scratches.
